Zakk Wylde is best known for his work at Ozzy's side. It's with good reason: He's blazed that gig with his strong musical personality firmly intact for decades. But on this episode we're not only talking about his work with the Ozzman, but his solo albums, Black Label Society, Zakk Sabbath, and a few very key guest spots.Supported by EMG Pickups: https://www.emgpickups.com/Use code EMG100 for 15% off at checkout!Get at us: 100guitarists@premierguitar.com Call/Text: 319-423-9734Podcast powered by Sweetwater. What drew me to him was his amazing talent and his awesome choice of guitar - a lime green Suhr. This was a guitarist with all the right influences (Eddie, Dimebag, Yngwie, Petrucci, Chris Amott), yet you couldn't find a more interesting image. He doesn't use a Floyd Rose bridge, but a two-prong vibrato. He doesn't play a Jackson or a Dean, but a Suhr. And yet, his tone, sound, look and feel is in my opinion a cut above the rest. He lets the music talk for him, and I think you will be hearing about him in a few years if you don't already know. #ifyoudontknownowyouknow Born in America and raised in Bangladesh, he moved back to the states and started jamming with like-minded musicians to form The Poynt, a rock band that's taking New York City over. He also contributed to live performances with F-Bomb, where he recently performed a flawless rendition of “Eruption” by Van Halen. Adhnan was happy to see one of his guitar heroes in the audience to witness his performance who then sang his praise (he talks about it in this episode). We also talk about his various endorsement deals (Friedman Amplifiers, EMG Pickups, and Morley Pedals - a rarity for independent musicians). In my opinion, Adhnan Sulaiman is the American dream personified - a kid from a humble background who put his talent to use and is achieving goals. In 1975, Rob founded EMG pickups. A year later, he came up with the prototype for the world’s first active pickup. Over 44 years, 4 million pickups and 65 employees later, Rob’s impact on pickups, guitar tone & noise reduction, is legendary This is a great conversation because Rob both educates us about pickups and also shares some interesting personal background information. He explains how pickups work, the numerous benefits of active pickups, what prompted him to come up with the idea of not only the active pickup, but how he thought of making it completely solderless. EMG quality control and other specifics that make EMG unique A painful personal tragedy in Rob’s life, perseverance, 32 years of marriage, his biggest business and personal wins, toughest decisions he’s had to make, being even-keeled, the “low stress diet,” and much more. Kowabunga!!! Surf's up at All About Guitar!! What is surf music? Where did it start? What is the "surf" sound and how do you get it? We discuss that and more tonight with some of the people that were there during those days of twangy guitars and loads of reverb!! Joining me is Tom Potts, who played with the Chancellors. The Chancellors, by the way, was the group that singer-songwriter Paul Williams started his legendary career! Tom and the Chancellors were the traveling house band for Kasey Kasem and backed singers Jackie DeShannon, Round Robin, Terry Stafford and many more from that period. Also joining me is Matt Quilter, brother of Pat Quilter, of Quilter Amps. Matt was the guitarist for the Reventlos. He also teaches guitar at the prestigious Sierra Surf Music Camp. He now plays with the Surftones and High Tides. Last, but not least, we are joined by Bobby Cochran, whose uncle was legend Eddie Cochran. Bobby is a session musician and master of many styles. Besides playing surf music, he has been the guitarist for Steppenwolf and The Flying Burrito Bros.

We all know, as guitarists, the problems we encounter when we play live, especially when we are trying to recreate the sounds we get in the studio. And even more difficult is trying to get the sound of our acoustic instruments to sound as close as possible in a high volume live situation. There are many options and solutions to miking our acoustic guitars, but what about those other instruments we are called upon to use? Tonight we explore two things: first some other stringed instruments that guitarists have in their arsenal. Joining me is multi-instrumentalist David Maldonado. Besides being a fantastic flamenco guitarist, he is a very versatile musician and he brings to the studio some of his other instruments he plays. We take a look at the banjo, mandolin, and bazouki. Second, we take a look at the problems on how to amplify these instruments live. Also joining us is Rob Turner. Rob is the founder of EMG pickups. Rob was one of the pioneers in using active pickups and EMG pickups have been installed many name artists guitars. EMG's were known for their great tone and for being absolutely quiet - a must for studio work! Rob is going to tell us about his pickups but also how he has designed and built pickups for banjo, mandolin, and bazouki, and more. We will discuss with both Rob and David the problems playing these instruments live and how EMG has solved them!
