Kavus frequently collaborates with other artists in the prog and avant-garde genres, and he is co-author of the book Medical Grade Music, along with Steve Davis, a well-known British Snooker player, DJ, and Kavus' band mate in the Utopia Strong. This is a fun, and incredibly well-written autobiography of both men. In general, if you like unconventional psychedelic rock and avant-garde music, Kavus is your man - go out and listen to everything he's involved with. He replaced KK Downing after he left the band in 2011. Richie has a new project of his own, called Elegant Weapons, and the band just released their first LP called Horns for a Halo. I listened to the LP and it's fantastic - it's a great representation of what I'd call original British heavy metal music of the 80's and 90's. High energy yet melodic songs you can actually sing and hum along with. If this is your first introduction to Richie's playing, you're going to find him to be an intelligent and extremely creative player whose technical skills are equally matched by his sense of melody. Other things I'd encourage you to watch and listen to, to check out Richie is the track You've Got Another Thing Coming from the Judas Priest DVD, Epitaph - which is actually on Apple Music. Richie performs a 3 minute solo on stage all alone and it's freaking awesome. Like, “goosebumps” awesome. He's known for his tone and technique, and has been one of the major figures in firmly establishing the electric bass as a solo instrument. His career took off in 1977 when Yes founding drummer Bill Bruford handpicked him to play in his band. Jeff's other recording and performance credits include a who's who of jazz and rock: Larry Coryell, Pat Martino, John McLaughlin, Yes, Eddie Van Halen, Frank Zappa & many more. Just to address this up front, Jeff's done dozens of interviews on the controversial comments he's made about bass players learning by academic teaching vs being self- taught. We're not going to address this issue, because Jeff's owned a lot of his mistakes here and has made public apologies to the people he needed to.
