Stephen Gibb – “Kill the Robot” Ignites with New Single as Rock Veteran Steps into the SpotlightStephen Gibb, the name that might first catch your ear as the son of Bee Gees legend Barry Gibb, has long carved out his own raw, relentless path in the world of heavy music. Now, he's stepping further into his own spotlight with the new single from his band Kill the Robot, delivering a blend of molten riffs, industrial aggression, and haunting lyrical intensity that refuses to be ignored.A Career Forged in Metal and GritStephen's career spans decades of evolution and hard-hitting contributions to the metal and rock world. Cutting his teeth in the Miami music scene, he played in various local bands before making a global mark with acts like Saigon Kick and the doom-laden outfit Crowbar, where he laid down guitar work that fused melody with muscle. He's perhaps most well known for his time with Black Label Society, playing alongside Zakk Wylde and touring extensively as part of the band's fearsome live presence. His tone was unmistakable—thick, swampy, and emotionally charged, equally capable of violence and vulnerability.Later, Stephen took a significant role in Kingdom of Sorrow, the side project of Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed) and Kirk Windstein (Crowbar), again contributing razor-sharp guitars and deep, introspective songwriting.Kill the Robot – A New ChapterWith Kill the Robot, Stephen is no longer just the hired gun—he's front and center, commanding a project that reflects his own vision. Their latest single [insert title here if known] is a slab of dark modern metal with electronic edges, blending industrial influences with classic metal guitar tone and apocalyptic vocals. It's a sonic punch that feels equal parts Nine Inch Nails, Pantera, and something uniquely Gibb. This isn't music for background noise—it's a sonic purge, a wake-up call in a world numb with repetition.Legacy Meets FutureDespite his musical pedigree, Stephen Gibb has always done it the hard way—earning his place through relentless touring, collaboration, and dedication to craft. “Kill the Robot” isn't just a new band—it's a declaration: that experience, struggle, and passion still matter in a music industry dominated by trends.Listen, Watch, and Follow Kill the Robot:
Though The Wolf saw Metallica kickoff their 72 Seasons/No Repeat Weekend Tour in Amsterdam in 2023, Jackson was not able to join. In fact, Action Jackson hadn't seen Metallica live since 1993 when he, The Wolf and their buddies saw them in Naples during their sophomore year in college. As our show is on the same network, Patheon Podcasts, as The Metallica Report, we hoped we'd have the chance to see James, Lars, Kirk and Robert live together again one day. That day came on May 1 in Nashville as Metallica continues their unique and killer tour for a 3rd year and we descended upon Nashville to witness our heavy metal heroes live again together after 32 years. You'll want to hear Jackson's reaction to the stage setup on a beautiful night in Nashville. Suicidal Tendencies opened the night and got the crowd ready. However, it was a reformed Pantera featuring Zakk Wylde on guitar and Charlie Benante on the drums filling in for Dime and Vinny that we were really excited about and they did not disappoint. By the time Metallica came on, we were ready for them to blow us away and they delivered as they always do. We want to thank our long time listener Dex and his family for putting us up in their home - a very generous offer we're so happy we took them up on. And we want to thank the folks who crashed into the seats in front of us for reminding us that it takes all kinds to make up the Metallica Family and we're glad to be a part of it (and also glad we're not related to any of them). Night 2 was even better as we worked our way to the OWNERS SUITE but that show will be out on May 15 - so stay tuned!! I had a chance to talk with Kenny Wayne Shepherd about his upcoming 2025 Tour with Experience Hendrix, a fresh album with blues legend Bobby Rush, and the 30th anniversary of his breakout record, Ledbetter Heights. Oh, and let’s not forget his obsession with muscle cars. The Experience Hendrix Tour: A Shredder’s Dream KWS is heading back to Detroit on March 22nd for the Experience Hendrix show at the legendary Fox Theatre. If you’ve never been to one of these gigs, imagine the ultimate guitar jam session with an all-star lineup paying tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Kenny is stoked to be part of it once again. “The Fox Theatres are some of the most beautiful venues in the country, and the Detroit one is probably the pinnacle,” Kenny said. “It’s crazy to think a lot of them were originally movie theaters.” He also talked about the wild mix of players sharing the stage, from shredders like Zakk Wylde to the precision of Eric Johnson. “Eric Johnson literally plays a backwards Hendrix solo note for note,” Kenny said. “That’s next-level dedication.” Kenny Wayne Shepherd Family, Touring, and Finding Balance Kenny isn’t just juggling a tour—he’s also balancing life at home with six kids. “When we first had kids, I tried to be home as much as possible, just doing weekend shows. But eventually, I had to hit the road again,” he explained. “Now, we’ve got a system. Four to five weeks on tour is the max before I need to come back and reconnect.” And when he’s home? It’s all about family, muscle cars, and stepping away from the music business for a bit. 30 Years of Ledbetter Heights and a New Record with Bobby Rush This year marks three decades since Ledbetter Heights put KWS on the map. To celebrate, he’s re-recorded the album, but don’t expect an exact replica. “With Trouble Is…, we recreated it almost exactly. But for Ledbetter Heights, some of the original musicians have passed away, so we took some creative liberties,” Kenny said. “It’s going to be a fresh experience for fans.” He’s also dropping Young Fashioned Ways on March 21st, a pure blues record with 92-year-old Bobby Rush. “We had to wait until our schedules aligned, but now we can finally tour together,” Kenny said. “This album is special—it’s stripped-down blues mixed with full-band electric, and it’s raw.” Muscle Cars, Roadkill Nights, and the Dream Cruise If you know Kenny, you know his love for muscle cars is right up there with blues guitar. He’s got about 16 cars in his collection, though he admits he’s no Jay Leno. “Jay’s got two airplane hangars full of cars—it’s like a museum,” Kenny laughed. “I’m living my version of the dream, but that guy’s on another level.” And speaking of car events, he’s working on making it to Dodge’s Roadkill Nights this summer in Detroit. “I’ve never made it out to the Dream Cruise or Roadkill Nights, but I’ve been talking to the Dodge guys,” Kenny said. “Fingers crossed I can make it happen.” Talking Marriage Advice and Meeting Mel Gibson Kenny also shared some personal moments, including advice from his father-in-law—yes, that Mel Gibson—before marrying his wife, Hannah. “He told me, ‘Try not to go to bed angry,’” Kenny said. “It’s great advice, and we try to follow it as much as we can.” As for meeting Mel for the first time? “I grew up around famous people because of my dad’s radio background, so I wasn’t intimidated,” Kenny explained. “But yeah, some people would probably find it overwhelming.” Final Thoughts From Kenny Wayne Shepherd From killer guitar work to burning rubber on the streets, Kenny Wayne Shepherd has a packed year ahead. Between the Experience Hendrix tour, the Ledbetter Heights re-recording, and his new blues project with Bobby Rush, there’s a lot to look forward to. And who knows? Maybe we’ll see him tearing it up at Roadkill Nights this summer.
In this New Music Friday episode, we speak with veteran guitarist/singer Dario Lorina (Jani Lane, Zakk Wylde) about his new band Dark Chapel, and their upcoming debut album, Spirt In The Glass.
If you don't know John McDermott, he's been the guardian of Jimi Hendrix's musical legacy for nearly 30 years. He's the kind of guy with stories you can't Google, insights you can't fake, and a lot of passion for preserving one of rock's greatest icons. We talked about everything from Hendrix's unreleased gems to their upcoming Experience Hendrix tour coming to the Fox Theatre on March 22nd. The Magic of the Fox Theatre First, McDermott talked about his upcoming concert at the Fox Theatre. John said it's one of the best places to perform. "We've played the Fox five times, and the crowd's energy is just incredible, it's not like playing a generic performing arts center where it's just another stop on a subscription series. These fans are passionate. They show up because they love the music." A Lifelong Journey with Jimi Now, how exactly does one become the catalog director for Jimi Hendrix? I asked John, and he dove right in. It started in 1992 when he co-wrote a book called Hendrix: Setting the Record Straight with Eddie Kramer. A year later, John helped produce a tribute album, Stone Free, which raised scholarship funds in Jimi's name through the United Negro College Fund. In the mid-1990s, John helped the Hendrix family win a long legal battle to regain control of Jimi's music. "When they finally won the rights, they asked me to manage the catalog," he explained. "Our first release was in 1997, and I've been doing it ever since." From curating historic releases to creating documentaries, John's helped make sure Hendrix's music remains timeless. How Many Hendrix Songs Are Still Unreleased? Every Hendrix fan has wondered: Is there anything left in the archives? According to John, the answer is, "Yes, but not as much." Over the years, his team has dug deep to release unreleased tracks, documentaries, and live sessions. "We're definitely closer to the end of the archive than we were 20 or 25 years ago," he admitted, "but every now and then, something new surprises us." Case in point? A few years ago, they uncovered a never-before-heard 1967 recording of Hendrix at the Hollywood Bowl. Want to know how early this was? It happened before Are You Experienced? It even dropped in the U.S. That's serious history right there. Why Hendrix Still Resonates When I asked about Hendrix's lasting legacy, John said, "Every generation rediscovers him." From Prince to Stevie Ray Vaughan to John Mayer, Hendrix's influence is woven into the DNA of music. "Jimi's music is timeless," John said. People hear it in movies, commercials, or even on the radio and are driven to find out more. His music speaks for itself—you don't have to hard-sell it." Even in pop culture, Hendrix's impact is everywhere. Quick example? Hulk Hogan famously strutted into the ring to "Voodoo Child." And John lit up when I threw that out there. "Yeah, that's a great example! And people like Paul McCartney still tell stories about their friendship with Jimi on stage. It's amazing how his influence just keeps going." The Experience Hendrix Tour Here's the part you need to know about—the Experience Hendrix tour. If you're even remotely into guitar legends, this is the show for you. John explained why it's such a hit. "It's not just a loose jam session," he said. "It's collaborative. You'll hear the Hendrix songs you know and love, but you'll also discover new artists who bring their own energy to the legacy." The lineup is stacked—think Zakk Wylde, Eric Johnson, and Marcus King, just to name a few. "These artists come because Jimi inspired them in different ways," John added. "It's a common denominator for audiences. People might come in because they're fans of one artist, but by the end of the night, they leave blown away by others." Oh, and if you happen to be at the Fox Theatre on March 22nd? Keep an eye out for surprise appearances. John flat-out said they love throwing unexpected guests into the mix. Hendrix Memorabilia: What's Left? John said Jimi was more of an "off-the-rack" kind of guy when it came to guitars. "He usually had a black Strat, a white Strat, and a Flying V," he shared. "Sometimes a Gibson Les Paul Jr. for blues numbers." Many of Jimi's personal items and stage gear now reside in museums, including the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) in Seattle and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Seeing them up close makes Hendrix feel real. "His dad, Al Hendrix, wanted these items shared with fans," John said. "It's incredible to see someone connect with a piece of Jimi's history in person." What's Next For The Hendrix Estate? John said the Electric Lady Studios project has been a big focus, "If we find more material that deepens fans' appreciation of Jimi, we'll explore ways to share it." If you're in Detroit on March 22nd, do yourself a favor and Experience Hendrix (literally) at the Fox Theatre. Trust me, this tour isn't just a concert—it's a celebration of a legend. See you there!

The boys experience Beatle-mania in the MTV era, exhibit animalistic tendencies while embracing new technologies, and use the scientific method to conduct an autopsy on the corpse of Duran Duran's 1982 disco-rock hit, “Hungry Like the Wolf.” News items and digressions Randy Rhoads vs Zakk Wylde and mixed drink recipes.
From Ozzy Osbourne to Black Label Society to Zakk Sabbath to, most recently, his stint filling in for his old friend “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott in Pantera, Zakk Wylde has left an unmistakable mark on the hard-rock and metal music worlds. Fresh off performing “The Star Spangled Banner” at the Cleveland Browns game in October, and paying homage to his boss Ozzy at the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Wylde joins this episode of Shred With Shifty to share his teachings from the book of rock. When he was learning to play, Wylde studied Frank Marino, Al Di Meola, and John McLaughlin along with Sabbath shredder Tony Iommi, Jimmy Page, and “King Edward”—Eddie Van Halen—but Osbourne's original right-hand guitar-man Randy Rhoades was top of the crop. Little did Wylde know he'd go on to replace him after his tragic death, following up the work of Rhoades, Brad Gillis, and Jake E. Lee. He got to join his favorite band, but it wasn't an easy gig. “What's expected of you as an Ozzy player?” says Wylde. “The bar that Randy set was lights out.” After a quick pinch-harmonics tutorial, Wylde lays out how he used a Marshall JCM800 and Boss SD-1 with his “holy grail” bullseye Gibson Les Paul Custom to track the alternate-picking intensive on “Miracle Man,” a mix of “ingredients” from all the players Wylde loves. (“Pass the Ritchie Blackmore, boss!”) For those thinking of skimping and swapping in some hammer-ons and pull-offs, Shifty warns: “There are no shortcuts! Pick every note!” Along the way, Wylde discusses the inner workings of his tenure with Osbourne, including being the longest-running player in the group—like “working at the deli,” according to Wylde. And tune in to hear about Wylde's relationship to Ozzy's wife and manager Sharon Osbourne, who he refers to as “mom”—a role she performed well when she busted him at a nightclub while he was underage. Nick welcomes music journalist Jim Ryan back to the podcast to discuss the new HBO documentary about Yacht Rock, the upcoming Toto tour, and the Mavis Staples show at the Auditorium Theatre. They also chat about Jim's interviews with Gavin Rossdale of Bush and Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde, who is now venturing into the coffee business. Jim shares reviews of recent concert performances by Cyndi Lauper, ZZ Top, Stevie Wonder, and The The. Later, Esmeralda Leon joins Nick to dive into the irritating world of comic-book movies, the absurdity of some villains, the CFCA Awards, and the superstitions surrounding Friday the 13th. They wrap things up by tasting a couple of great snacks from Belgium. [Ep306]

Another Jocktober has just flown by. We finish off in Boston to review the show that broke off from the mighty The Toucher and Rich Show. Rich Shertenlieb thought he could break off and start his own thing without Fred Toucher. We'll see but so far I don't like his chances considering his segments include long conversations about facial hair, male nipples, and Tom Brady's level of attractiveness. Trucker Andy joins the show to get angry that Zakk Wylde is pretending to play guitar in Pantera. Howard Stern makes a mistake during his segment with Bruce Springsteen and blames Gary Dell'Abate. John Gabrus gives his assessment of our review of his show, Action Boyz. Helga Mann and Lisa Boswell are back and they're still working with JJ. No Agenda gives a shoutout to Stuttering John who falls for yet another work. StutJo somehow spins it into another win… which is NUTS! April Imholte gets heckled during her omnibus hearing and it's pretty funny. Kevin Brennan has Tom Myers on as a guest on MLC and I can't tell which one is worse at broadcasting. Cardiff and Annie join the show as we play another round of To Poke A Dabbler, tease the next episode, read a review, and listen to your voicemails. “Are you comparing King Diamond to KISS!?” KING DIAMOND is the undisputed champion of all things dark & creepy that scarify & terrify throughout the metal multiverse. In our humble opinion, The King should be deemed the official ambassador of Halloween. Through the use of the creative forces granted unto him by his Scandinavian homeland (and perhaps with a little supernatural assistance for added evilocity), The KING has been unleashing terrifying tales of gothic horror backed by a progressive power metal soundtrack that have been scaring the Hell out of audiences for nearly four decades (even longer if you count his time in Mercyful Fate). There can be no doubt that he is THE premier horror metal storyteller of all time, “The KING” if you will. When in doubt, always remember The King Diamond Paradox: “King Diamond IS Mercyful Fate AND Mercyful Fate IS King Diamond!!!” Get ready for a bit of trivia regarding the music video for “The Family Ghost” and find out which former heavy metal haunt in Atlanta was legitimately (actually) haunted. Understand that it's always better to go with “a super smart 6 than an ultra dumb 9” because without adequate brainpower, there's “no bone movies” (especially if she insists on “using her teeth every time”). Discover “the worst part about being married”, pay tribute to the “chili dog queen” and JOIN US for a trip through the gruesome tales of twisted horror from the mind of Hvidovre, Denmark's metal master of the macabre, KING DIAMOND. Plus, get the inside scoop on our brand-new studio setup designed for intimate live music performances. Big things are coming!
No More Tears, the sixth solo studio album by Ozzy Osbourne, was released at an interesting time in rock music. Hair metal acts were in decline, and grunge was about to take off. Nevertheless, Ozzy hit it big with this album, reaching number 7 on the Billboard 200 charts, and providing Osbourne's only solo top 40 hit. No More Tears is generally considered his best album since his first two solo albums, "Blizzard of Oz," and "Diary of a Madman," both of which featured the late Randy Rhodes on guitar. The songs on the album are largely written by Ozzy, drummer Randy Castillo, and guitarist Zakk Wylde. Motorhead bassist and front man Lemmy Kilmister wrote the lyrics to four of the tracks on the album. Additional musicians for this album were Bob Daisley on bass, and John Sinclair on keyboards. This would be the last Ozzy album to feature Castillo and Daisley. As became more common in the compact disc era of the 90's, the tracks on this album tend to be longer than the typical single. None of the tracks clock in at less than 4 minutes, and the longest falls just short of 7 1/2 minutes. In addition to boasting Osbourne's first top 40 hit, he also received a Grammy for "Best Metal Performance" for the track "I Don't Want to Chane the World" when released on his "Live & Loud" album in 1994.Rob brings us this heavy metal throwback for this week's journey back to the 90's.Mama, I'm Coming HomeThis track peaked at number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Osbourne's only top 40 solo single. This power ballad contains lyrics by Lemmy Kilmister, the front man from Motorhead. The song is about his wife Sharon, who helped turn his life around.DesireA crunchy deep cut talks about going for what you want - not changing over time, seeking the same desire. Osbourne also makes a reference to "Crazy train," his hit from the early 80's. "It's the same old desire, nothing's changed, nothing's the same. Burning like fire, don't you ever take my name in vain."Road to NowhereThe last song on the album is a reflection on life. Osbourne had gone sober after 20 years of drugs and alcohol, and he looking at how "the road to nowhere leads to me." "I was looking back on my life and all the things I've done to me." No More TearsThis very dark title track has an epic feel, and despite its length hit number 5 on the US Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, number 71 on the Billboard Hot 100, and number 32 on the UK Singles chart. The lyrics are told from the perspective of a stalker in a red light district seeking a victim to torture. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Wayne's World by Aerosmith (from the Saturday Night Live skit “Wayne's World”)This skit finds Wayne (Mike Myers) and Garth (Dana Carvey) partying in their basement with the band Aerosmith. STAFF PICKS:Tough It Out by Webb WilderWayne starts out the staff picks with a deep cut. Webb Wilder was born John Webb McMurry in Mississippi, and carries a high energy combination of rock, psychedelic, blues, and rockabilly genres in this song that encourages the listener to keep fighting for dreams even when the odds seem stacked against their fruition. Alive by Pearl JamLynch brings us a song which evolved from songwriter and front man Eddie Vedder's original intention. Vedder reflects on the feelings of a boy discovering that he was a stepchild. While the lyrics were intended as reflecting the curse of an emotional weight from family history, fans interpreted it as an affirmation of life.I Can't Make You Love Me by Bonnie RaittBruce takes the energy way down with this soft hit off Raitt's eleventh studio album, "Luck of the Draw." Bruce Hornsby provides the piano accompaniment. Nashville writers Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin wrote the song after hearing about a drunk man being sentenced for shooting at his girlfriend's car. When asked if he had learned anything, he said, "I learned, Your Honor, that you can't make a woman love you if she don't."Anybody Listening? by Queensryche Rob finishes the staff picks with a "prog metal" song off the "Empire" album that questions whether we really are communicating with people, and wondering if we are understood whether by word or deed. It was an epic with multiple tempos, dynamics, and key changes that finished off the album. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Masquerade by YesWe close out with a surprisingly short song by the prog rock virtuosos off their "Union" album. https://youtube.com/live/IjPHR2jXGGc?feature=share On Saturday (October 19), Ozzy Osbourne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist, marking his second recognition by the institution, following his 2006 induction with BLACK SABBATH. Actor and TENACIOUS D frontman Jack Black inducted Ozzy, calling him "the greatest frontman in the history of rock 'n' roll." Black recalled seeing the cover of Ozzy's debut solo album, Blizzard Of Ozz, saying, "It was the most metal thing I had ever seen, and I didn't even know what metal was. Then I went back to Ozzy's BLACK SABBATH albums, and I thought, 'Unholy shit, this guy invented heavy metal—the darkest, heaviest stuff the world had ever heard.'" Seated on a throne, Osbourne humbly accepted the award, saying: "Well, here we are. I can't believe it myself. Let me get the thank-yous out of the way. I'd like to thank everyone who voted me into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for my solo work. A great thank you from the bottom of my heart. My fans have been so loyal over the years, and I cannot thank them enough. I've been lucky to play with some of the world's greatest musicians, and many of them are here tonight. But I have to especially mention Randy Rhoads. If I hadn't met Randy, I don't think I'd be sitting here now. And, more than anyone, I have to thank my wife Sharon, who saved my life, and my grandbabies and babies. I love them all." With his brief speech concluded, Ozzy handed the mic back to Jack Black, and an all-star performance followed. The backing band featured RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith, METALLICA bassist (and former Ozzy band member) Robert Trujillo, producer Andrew Watt, and keyboardist Adam Wakeman. They were joined by TOOL's Maynard James Keenan and Wolfgang Van Halen for a powerful rendition of “Crazy Train.” Zakk Wylde and country star Jelly Roll then took the stage for "Mama, I'm Coming Home," and Billy Idol closed the set with "No More Tears," accompanied by his longtime guitarist Steve Stevens. Sammy Hagar and Slash Light Up the Stage with “Hot Blooded” at the 2024 Rock Hall Induction for Foreigner The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony became a night to remember when rock icons Sammy Hagar and Slash joined forces to pay tribute to the legendary band Foreigner. As the hall reverberated with excitement, the duo tore into a blistering performance of Foreigner's timeless classic, “Hot Blooded,” sending shockwaves through the audience. With Sammy Hagar's unmistakable voice soaring through the iconic chorus and Slash's signature Les Paul riffs electrifying the crowd, it was a performance that honored Foreigner's legacy while bringing their music into a new era. The chemistry between these two rock veterans was undeniable, as they traded licks and vocal lines, breathing fresh life into the 1978 hit. Hagar, no stranger to the Rock Hall after his own induction with Van Halen, shared his admiration for Foreigner during the ceremony. "These guys paved the way for so many of us," Hagar remarked, "and it's an honor to be here, rocking out to a song that still gets the blood pumping after all these years." Slash echoed the sentiment, acknowledging the influence Foreigner had on the next generation of rock musicians. "Their songwriting, their energy, it's all a part of the DNA of rock 'n' roll." Foreigner's induction has been a long time coming, and this powerhouse collaboration made sure it was celebrated in style. As the final notes of “Hot Blooded” rang out, the crowd was on their feet, a testament to Foreigner's enduring impact on rock history, and the incredible performance delivered by two of the genre's most enduring stars. Whether you were there in person or watching from home, this performance will go down as one of the standout moments in the Rock Hall's history—a true celebration of rock and roll's past, present, and future.
