S9E23 went out on the 4th of June 2026, LIVE from the TSORR Myoli Beach Studios in the Western Cape.  It wasgreat to be back in the studio and cranking the volume again this week. It's also the beginning of my birth week, and I was celebrating myself hard!   The Diabolical Challenge took us straight into blues-rock heaven with four absolute legends — all killer three-piece bands (guitar, bass, drums): Cream, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, and Rory Gallagher. Proper pioneers and some seriously fiery material that lit the place up.  In the Immortals slot, we fired up Neil Young with the epic 'Crime in the City' (Sixty to Zero)”. We also had some fresh new releases, including  Armored Saint and Brian Fallon, a few curveballs, and the usual favourites that just had to be played.  Artists featured:Jørn, Joe Bonamassa, Mick Jagger, Brian Fallon, Armored Saint, Pat Travis, Wilson, Black Label Society, Cold Chisel, Judas Priest, The Stranglers, Rush, Motörhead, David Bowie, Tool, Steve Vai, Guns N' Roses, Skid Row, Interview - Liaan Horton, The Color Blew, Def Leppard, Van Halen, Neil Young, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, Rory Gallagher, The Boomtown Rats, The Distillers, Piet Botha, ACDC, Tom Petty, The Uninvited, Airbourne, Parkway Drive. The Story of Rock and Roll. A few weeks ago, Captain Content threw down a challenge to find great new music, and Kevin didn't just step up—he delivered in spades. Typically, we recognize all of the amazing recorded output of the current year at the end of the year; however, there are just too many great releases this year to wait until December. We're not even halfway through the year yet, and we already have all of these great tunes! Who was that said rock n' roll was dead???  What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show, Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection: an artist, album, or grouping of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week, we look at an amazing year of releases for the world of rock n' punk n' metal. We hope we turn you onto something new! Songs this week include: Starcrazy - “Prove Myself” from Prove Myself - Single (2026) The Gems - “Stars” from Year Of The Snake (2026) Bakko - “Do It For Me” from Another Sign Of The Decline (2026) Sugar - “Long Live Love” from Long Live Love - Single (2026) Tigercub - “Fall In Fall Out” from Nets To Catch The Wind (2026) Jane And The Killer Queens - “Dumb Blonde” from Dumb Blonde - Single (2026) Metal Church- “Deep Cover Shakedown” from Dead To Rights (2026) Elder  - “Through Zero” from Through Zero (2026) Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!

This week on Heavy Metal Tones, we dive headfirst into the unmistakable roar of Zakk Wylde and the enduring legacy of Black Label Society. Episode 272 puts the band's latest album under the microscope, exploring how its tone, attitude, and riff power stack up against the crushing foundation laid by the first four records: Sonic Brew, Stronger Than Death, 1919 Eternal, and The Blessed Hellride. From gritty Southern sludge to soaring melodic leads and that signature pinch-harmonic scream, we trace the evolution of BLS tone and ask the big question: does the new album carry the same fire, or does it forge a different path? Zakk Wylde opens up about Ozzy's final show, the 17 days that followed, Dimebag's unfinished recordings, and the making of Black Label Society's crushing new album Engines of Demolition. Topics Include: Zakk runs on 14 pots of Valhalla coffee every single day. He was invited to Back to the Beginning well in advance. Tony Iommi, Jimmy Page, and Ritchie Blackmore are mythical heroes to Zakk. No More Tears was rehearsed but Ozzy pulled it on the day. Ozzy was giddy meeting Axl Rose — couldn't believe it was happening. Zakk watched Sabbath's final set alongside Axl Rose and Sharon Osbourne. Just 17 days after the show, Ozzy passed away unexpectedly. They'd been texting memes and planning another record together right until the end. Zakk envisioned a global Back to the Beginning charity tour series. A sober Zakk and Ozzy watched their blasted crew destroy a Tokyo restaurant. Dimebag left hours of unfinished song ideas on tape for potential release. Playing Dime's solos means staying faithful — like Stevie Ray covering Hendrix. Zakk and Eddie Van Halen's amp, calling it life-altering history. Engines of Demolition was built across several years alongside the Pantera Celebration tour. Zakk confirms BLS, Zakk Sabbath, and more Pantera shows are all coming. It was a great show; I thoroughly enjoyed it after missing last week's show due to a family medical situation and a disastrous Airbnb experience. It was super to be back behind the mic, and I used the show to recount some of the stories, the adventures, and the highlights of the trip. There was a very funny and interesting interview with the insanely talented Craig V, with whom I spent time while on the road.  There are a lot of new releases/discoveries.  Other than a duff start where the mic had to be reset, it was one of my favourite shows ever.  Artists featured:  Rob Zombie, The Lazys, The L.A. Maybe, Nickelback, Blue Öyster Cult, Black Label Society, Marilyn Manson, Cold Chisel, Nick Perri & the Underground Thieves, Sevendust, POD, Dave Lee Roth, Guns N' Roses, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, ACDC, Aerosmith, Eric Clapton, Interview - Craig V, Last Dart Dave, Led Zeppelin, Cheap Trick, Manowar, Marcus King, Joe Bonamassa, Dan Patlansky, Ayron Jones, Lost Society, Blue Medusa, Exodus, Lyzyrd Kyngs, Valiant Swart, Black Label SocietyThe Story of Rock and Roll.  TSORR - Your one-stop shop for Rock

JJO's Discover New Music Podcast

You gotta have the cake first...but the icing is pretty damn good too! This week's guest on Discover New Music is the legendary Zakk Wylde. In between cracking jokes, Wylde broke down creating the latest Black Label Society album "Engines of Destruction" with a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants approach. Make a pot of coffee and work on a riff. Go on a food run and work out some lyrics. Well it worked and now we have the first new BLS record since '21. Wylde also shares a sweet story about Ozzy that you won't want to miss. As always a quick round of Rapid Fire is played...in a very diplomatic fashion.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week, we're discussing bands that feature rock stars: Supergroups and Offshoots. We once again discuss how a band consisting of well-known artists from other bands does not always equal great success. Join us as we delve into some of the lesser-known supergroups and offshoots that didn't achieve huge mainstream success or lasted for very long. What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show, Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection: an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week we talk exclusively about Supergroups featuring famous solo artists and band members, along with Offshoots, which are bands that contain the bulk of a previous incarnation of a famous band. We hope that we turn you on to something new.Songs this week include:Chrome Division – “Till The Break Of Dawn” from Doomsday Rock'n'Roll (2006)Mother's Army – “Dreamtime” from Mother's Army (1993)Captain Beyond – “Mesmirization Eclipse” from Captain Beyond (1972)Army Of Anyone – “Father Figure” from Army Of Anyone (2006)Dream Evil - “Save Us” from Dragonslayer (2002)Levee Walkers – “All Things Fade Away (feat.
