Singer/Songwriter Sevyn Streeter speaks with host Shanti Das & co-host Free The Vision about her silent battle with depression. Sevyn gives a detailed account of how faith, family, and music helped her heal through some of the darkest times of her life. In this very candid interview you will hear the music star open up about the perils of depression, including experiencing suicidal ideation and how it ultimately helped inspire her new album, Girl Disrupted.
As a gift to fans on her birthday, Atlantic Records artist Sevyn Streeter has released her debut album GIRL DISRUPTED. The album includes recently released tracks- “My Love for You” and “Fallen” feat. Ty Dolla $ign & Cam Wallace, as well as soon to be chart topping features with August Alsina, Dave East, Dej Loaf, Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign and more. “I am overjoyed for the release of my debut album, Girl Disrupted! It’s only fitting to celebrate the biggest love of my life…MUSIC on the same day that I was given LIFE! To my Street Team: This is our first birthday, with many more to come…Happy Girl Disrupted Day!” The premise of GIRL DISRUPTED is centered on a message every young woman can relate to, the journey from a young naïve girl to a grown woman. “This important time in each woman’s life forces them to take ownership of their past in order to become the most true version of themselves,” says Sevyn. Earlier this year Sevyn hit the road for an 18-city North American headline tour which kicked off in St. Louis and wrapped in Los Angeles. Throughout the tour Sevyn partnered with Karen Civil for a Civil TV Tour Diary which documented her time on the road.
Monday 7/17- Today on the show Sevyn Streeter stopped by to talk about her first album “Girl Disrupted”, dealing with depression, and trying to stop Charlamagne from shooting his shot with her mother. Speaking of "Shoot your Shot", we had a listener call up to shoot his shot with his ex, and he tried to shoot with this quote “Time heals all wounds” but the wound he was talking about was Chlamydia! Also, Charlamagne gave “Donkey of the Day” to former pop star Aaron Carter for getting arrested for DUI and marijuana possession. We start off the podcast talking about the throwback tour that TLC is headlining with Montell Jordan and Naughty By Nature. Afterwards we get into the career of Montell Jordan and talk about his current plans in music. We get into some of the new releases that came out over the last two weeks including Sevyn Streeter's "Girl Disrupted", Daley's "The Spectrum" and Jagged Edge's "Layover". We point out some of the highlights in each of the albums as well as the disappointment we experienced with them, especailly Jagged Edge's. The combination of trendy sounds and autotuned vocals didn't help their case at all. We also talk about some new singles from the likes of Deborah Cox, Vivian Green, Dondria Nicole, June's Diary and of course the much anticipated release of 112's comeback single "Strawberry". We also talk about the career of Dawn Robinson and why we feel she wasn't able to make that leap into superstardom as a solo artist. We also talk about Tank's new single "When We" and whether it's fair to criticize him because he did warn us that he was going to stop making real R&B a few albums back. Lastly for the hall of fame, we try to induct everyone's favorite artist Joe as well as popular rapper Drake.
