The newest installment to my colors mix series. I first bought my first pair of turntables in 2010, making 2025 my fifteenth year as a DJ. I got my start in the DC club circuit playing a lot of Hip-Hop spots during the trap golden era. Wanted to revisit some old club classics and some forgotten gems from that period, and it's clear that I was running a lot of Drake and DS2 Future. Look out for part two of this special series. Let me know what you were doing in 2015... This mix features music by Drake, Future, Playboi Carti, Yo Gotti, DeJ Loaf, Cardi B & more. Press play and enjoy! On this debut episode of We Need To Talk joining the Black Effect Podcast Network, Nyla Symone sits with R&B sensations Dej Loaf and Jacques to discuss Jacquees and Dej being back together and the energy is unreal. Jada Ali is a female rap artist and songwriter from Flint, Michigan with a vision and a plan. The music bug bit her at the young age of 10 years-old when she began writing songs and recording over cassette tapes. Some of her musical influences were MC Lyte, Foxy Brown, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliot, Eve, Da Brat, Lauryn Hill, and Left-Eye. Continuously working on her craft, Jada started recording in professional studios at age 15, and by 2010, she released her first body of work. From there, she performed at all of the major shows in Flint and surrounding areas, getting a chance to share stages with prominent rap acts such as Trina, Rasheeda, Gorilla Zoe, J. Cole, Dej Loaf, and Cardi B. From 2016 to 2019, Jada worked under the guidance of Flint native and national recording artist Jon Connor who showed her the ropes of the music business and furthered her artist development. Her experience with Connor prompted her to establish her own company, Round Table Association, where she plans to sign artists with drive and a love for music like herself. At the top of 2020, Jada kicked off the year with the release of her single “Focus” produced by Lost Champions. The title of the song coincides with her hustle mindset as she's focused in her mission to achieve major success and give back to her hometown of Flint.

Aleah Denae and Quan McCullough have an informal Q&A and discussion surrounding his football, entrepreneurial and philanthropic successes. They dive into how black men are often limited to success in sports, due to the lack of representation in other careers/settings, and often times feeling like the only way to “make it out” is through the game. The “My Take On Music” Segment features reviews on drops from Gunna, Teyana Taylor, Dej Loaf and Jacob Latimore.
2014 was a banner year for a handful of rappers and producers who were familiar to hip-hop fans - Young Money, GOOD Music, Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, etc - but their music was evolving and absorbing influences from the margins. Upstarts Fetty Wap, Rae Sremmurd, Bobby Shmurda, OT Genasis, Makonnen and Dej Loaf all scored huge hits and got cosigns from the previous generation of rap stars. DJ Mustard kept chugging along with a string of top 10 radio records in a streak which may have only been preceded by The Neptunes the decade prior. History of Hip Hop 2014 is a rich tapestry of ATL trap, West Coast gangster rap and NYC drug dealer anthems, plus a ton of styles that defy categorization (D.R.A.M. raps over a Nintendo theme, Vic Mensa sings over deep house, Mystikal does a spot-on James Brown impression and Kanye is flipping full on gospel music). We hope you enjoy listening to the mix as much as we did making it!
