The Coachella lineup is out, and often it can tell us a lot about what to expect from the year ahead. But how does 2025's bill stand up, when did Coachella become so powerful, and was it Greg attending in 2012 with a hologram to Tupac that made all other celebrities want to go? Away from our tales of the festival (Stuart has also been to Coachella, but with little affect on its popularity), on episode 159 of Midnight Chats we review the new surprise release from Kendrick Lamar 'GNX' and spare a thought for Drake at this difficult time. Kate Nash has become the latest musician to start an OnlyFans to fund her artistry. And what does the strange BBC Sound of 2025 poll tell us about public appetite for new music?

On this week's catch up episode we had the chance to reconnect with California native and music producer Jay B who first appeared on the show in 2021! Jay dialed in from the infamous Chalice recording studio in LA in between sessions to have a cool chat about what the last couple years have been like and especially what he's been through this year in 2024. Having recently lost someone quite close to him he discussed what he's learned about his own mortality and how he's been able to keep pushing and growing through the tough times. After officially signing to his cousin Hit-Boy's Surf Club imprint he also has had a ton of new opportunities coming his way on the music side. He revealed new tracks with artists like Denzel Curry that will be coming soon and gave a clear picture of what people can expect from him as he doubles down on collaborations and networking. We're thankful for Jay B's willingness to share about his ups and downs and we have no doubt he will keep achieving incredible things as a creative. We're very excited to hear what's to come from him real soon!Tune into Anthony's Twitch stream every Tuesday at 6PM eastern time for in depth content ideas, strategies, music tips and more!

There's also a review, well more a drunken recollection, of Brighton Pride and Girls Aloud and a rant. A massive rant.

Recorded Live at the Anime Station store in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles on July 13, 2024, rapper Denzel Curry talks with UC Irvine cultural anthropologist Dr. Mimi Ito about his relationship to anime and anime culture in Japan and abroad. We discuss Mimi's research that tracked how manga and anime grew from just a Japanese export to a global phenomenon. Fascinatingly, anime spread through the promotion of fan groups of American ex-pats that would trade anime and create subtitles for the American audience. After decades of promo provided by this “fan subbing” and AMV (anime music video) conventions, the media industry caught on and now distributes anime across multiple platforms. Denzel does a deep dive into his favorite anime programs and traces how he was first introduced as a child in Florida and was later inspired to incorporate it into his music and fashion. Our interview with Denzel Curry is the one. Denzel—whose new project King Of The Mischievous South Volume 2 is out July 19th—rallied ‘round the podcast with a pocket full of shells to spit barz on learning how to get dripped out by watching anime, refusing to talk about his underwear publicly, nearly shitting his pants during an On The Radar freestyle, his propensity to explore multiple genres and how he's a true student of music theory, his deep and somewhat surprising love of both Pop and Rock, teasing new music and features, popping on TikTok and his viral Rage Against the Machine cover, the conversation with Andre 3000 that changed his life, reflecting back on his life and career on the cusp of turning 30, why numbers don't matter, gripping the underground crown vs. going mainstream, what he remembers from the most iconic XXL Freshmen Cypher of all time, the art of the angry shower, headbanging your way through an entire cross-country flight, why he considers himself the greatest living performer, fight nights at the crib and much more on Denzel Curry's interview with The Only Podcast That Matters™. Berry Galazka - Leash from the 2023 Leash EP on Climax Records & Sweat Entertainment Each artist we're featuring this week is a Music Moves Europe Awards nominee. The MME Awards are the EU-funded prize for emerging artists. There are 15 nominees for these prestigious awards and the winners will be announced Thursday, January 18 at the ESNS festival in Groningen, NL. Listeners/viewers can vote for their favorite artist for the MME Public Choice Award here. Born in Poland, raised in Florida, and now living in London — Berry Galazka brings a wealth of worldly influences to her music, from My Chemical Romance to polka to Denzel Curry. She reflects her Polish heritage in her clothing, wearing a babushka scarf and the country's flag colors of red and white. On Facebook, she shares that today's Song of the Day is "largely inspired by my family's virtue of questioning everything." She also notes to Polyester Zine that the new EP is inspired by the Salvador Dali painting Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening. "I still find so many different meanings within this painting,” she told The Line of Best Fit. "It always stuck with me how he visualized the sensation of being ripped out of a dream as the subconscious mind protects Gala from the bee sting."
