EP: 78 Elizabeth Schenkel - On The Edge by Heroes For Her
Founder and CEO of Bible Belles and award-winning author of The Adventures of Rooney Cruz series, Erin Weidemann is committed to changing the world’s current definition of beauty. As a certified teacher, coach, and nationally recognized speaker, she offers speaking, workshops, and seminars to equip women of all ages to let go of fear and step into the unique leadership roles for which they were designed. She is also pleased to be a part of the Speakers Bureau for World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization. A five-time cancer survivor, Erin lives in San Diego, CA and speaks at events, conferences, fundraisers, churches, and schools. Funny and real, Erin is also the host of the Heroes For Her podcast, interviewing celebrities, actors, musicians, and other women who are living out their passions in line with their personal values.
“The work is good, and the rest is holy. Be still.” Yes! Today’s guest is Heroes For Her alumna, Crystal Stine. We had Crystal on the show back in March 2016 and I love that we got to catch up today because so much has happened since our original interview. Crystal makes her living as a writer. She’s the author of “Creative Basics: 30 Days to Awesome Social Media Art,” creator of the popular “Clarity Coaching” Course, editor of “Craving Connection” and host of the annual Write 31 Days challenge. Most recently, she is encouraging women everywhere to pursue holy hustle – a work hard, rest well lifestyle that chases faith instead of fame. She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband Matt and their six-year-old daughter, Madi. Some generations pride themselves on their strong work ethic. Other generations chase happiness. The "world" promotes 24/7 hustle as a necessity to success, while Christians avoid the word and prefer rest. Crystal’s been working to unpack what "hustle" truly means and why it shouldn't be feared, using Scripture, personal stories, and reader reflections. I’m so excited for you to hear today’s episode.

“To thine own self be true.” You know I love a good Shakespeare reference! We switched things up a bit for today’s show. Since we started the Heroes For Her podcast last year, we’ve had only two male guests: Joel Smallbone from for KING & Country and the amazing other half of the Bible Belles founder team, Brent Weidemann. Our #3 is Pastor Van Moody! As a pastor, speaker, and leadership trainer, Van Moody’s voice has been heard around the world at the 30th Anniversary of the March on Washington, with Pope John Paul II and his Pontifical Council in Rome, Italy, and in Tokyo, Japan as an Associate Trainer for Dr. John Maxwell’s leadership organization, EQUIP. Most recently, he became a member of Dr. Oz’s Core Team and is featured on the Dr. Oz Show on ABC. He lives in Birmingham, Alabama with his wife, Dr. Ty, and their two children, Eden Sydney and Ethan Isaiah. Van Moody has a passion for healthy transformation in individuals, organizations and the world. In today’s episode, he breaks down The I Factor: the three dynamics that are essential to understanding ourselves and discovering what God has for all of us. He talks about how identity significance, and perspective are the keys to managing yourself – your whole life – well. We talked about how these ideas apply to parenting and helping our children live healthy, purpose-filled lives from the inside out. Don’t miss today’s episode, “Intentional Parenting: The I Factor”, and find out more about how to help our kids know who they are, see purpose and greatness in what they were created for, and view the problems they face as stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I speak with Erin Weidemann about her faith journey, surviving cancer, and the road to becoming a children's author. Here's what you'll learn in today's interview: Erin's backstory and faith journey (00:45 - 03:31) How a children's birthday party helped the Bible Belles series first begin to take shape (03:32 - 05:57) Meet Rooney Cruz, one of the central characters in the Bible Belles series. (05:58 - 08:56) Meet Mari, Rooney's special companion on her Bible Belles adventures (08:57 - 10:05) Why did you select Hannah, Esther, and Abigail for the first three books in the Bible Belles series and what do you hope to teach girls through each of them? (10:06 - 12:43) What is significant about the special gift that Mari gives Rooney at the end of each story? (12:44 - 15:00) A sneak peek at the “Heroes for Her” that we'll be meeting in books four and five of the Bible Belles series (15:01 - 18:12) What would you like to see every girl take away from your stories? (18:13 - 19:53) How can parents, grandparents, and teachers put Bible Belles to use? (19:54 - 21:22) Where to go online to connect with Erin and lean more about the Bible Belles series. (21:23 - 21:55) About the Bible Belles series: After tossing around some ideas for what to get our niece Hannah for her birthday, we decided we didn't want to buy her just another toy. It had to be something meaningful, something special. We simplified the story of Hannah from the Bible and made her a personalized book, so she could know about a great hero whose name she shares. I wrote the story, and Brent illustrated the cover. When we gave her the book, she smiled, shrugged, and said, “I didn't even know there was a Hannah in the Bible.” Then, a light went off. Wouldn't it be great if girls today were just as excited about biblical women as they are about princesses: real examples of true beauty, women who can be real heroes for girls today? That would be something. That would be everything. And, just like that, Bible Belles was born. Putting The "Her" In Hero An engaging, high-quality Christian book series for kids, “The Adventures of Rooney Cruz” is a series unlike any other. Rooted in truth and the firm foundation of God's word, “The Adventures of Rooney Cruz” takes girls on a journey to discover true beauty, God's love, and their unique purpose. Virtues From The Bible Prayer, Patience, Bravery, Loyalty and Leadership. From the moment you found out you were going to be a girl mom, you've thought about your daughter's heart and that you're charged with teaching her what she needs to know. We're here to give you the tools you need to talk to your girl about what's beautiful according to God. After all, His is the ultimate measure of beauty. These books focus on cultivating a beautiful heart and nurturing the qualities that make a truly beautiful woman, empowering girls to stop mimicking the world's definition of beauty and instead, make a different kind of noise. A Frame Character Children Connect With Rooney Cruz is a modern day 9 year old girl who gets a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the Bible Belles and discover the hero inside herself. While most children's bible stories are a summary of events, Rooney Cruz offers readers a way to really connect with the female Bible heroes. In each book, Rooney faces a real world problem and learns how to use her God-given superpowers to address it. Rooney teaches today's girls how to wield the powers of Prayer, Patience, Bravery, Loyalty and Leadership in their own lives, too. A Chance For Moms To Pour In For the first time, you get the chance to discuss your faith with your kids in context, in a way that makes sense for them. These books were designed to spark an honest conversation between moms and daughters about how God measures beauty, as well as their purpose in this world. Since our frame character is unfamiliar with the biblical world, she's prone to asking questions–a lot of questions–which gives you the perfect opportunity to teach your girl about what she's reading and how your own experiences and lessons have shaped you. Positive Role Models For Girls Girls need role models. They need real heroes who reinforce the right values and virtues. These days, there's no shortage of women who are successful in their chosen field (which we think is AWESOME, by the way), and a lot of the time the ones who are loudest are the ones who get noticed. But where are the real heroes: women who pray, women with a heart to serve, women who lead with their values? They're out there, but their stories have been drowned out by the overwhelming narrative of the world. Well, not anymore. It's time for the sound of the Belles to be HEARD. Quality To Keep Her Attention We understand that most Christian products these days are, well, lame. We get why it's easy to opt out of most Christian books. We didn't want to make another series that kids would want to pass up for something better. We wanted to give girls the kind of experience they would cherish, now and forever. We chose a larger size and thick glossy pages. We even hired a former Disney Animator for crying out loud! We are dedicated to helping girls connect with these stories, and high quality is one of the ways we accomplish that. About the Author: Erin Weidemann is a teacher turned professional author. Happy birthday to us . . . Bible Belles is turning ONE! Brent, Rooney, and I have been celebrating all week in Hawaii! In this episode, you’ll hear stories from the past year and how we went from an idea on the way home from church to being months away from releasing our third book! We've had lots of challenges and awesome milestones along the way, and I loved getting a chance to sit down with my people and talk through this incredible year and all that God has done. Don’t miss this week’s episode, "Happy Birthday, Bible Belles!", and feel free to run around cheering and throwing confetti in the air. That's what we're doing!

If inspirational stories full of heart, triumph and Grace fill you with joy, you won't want to miss my guest this Thursday, February 18th at 6pm EST. Full time teacher, mother, coach, five-time cancer survivor, and author, Erin Weidemann's life story is amazing in itself. She was convinced that being a wife and mother were not in her future, but she has experienced that with God nothing is impossible. Her personal experiences, seeing negative life situations used for good in her life and for others while finding her own personal destiny, inspired her to create this life-changing series that will help girls around the world fulfill their destiny as well. Erin joins me to discuss her new novel, Hannah: The Belle of Prayer, the first book in The Adventures of Rooney Cruz series. Book Blurb: the first book of an original children’s series titled The Adventures of Rooney Cruz. The series will focus on five superhero women from the Bible starting with the first book, “Hannah: The Belle of Prayer.” Rooney Cruz, the main character, is a regular 9 year old girl who learns she possesses hidden superpowers, and her first adventure takes her on a journey to discover her first secret superpower: the power of prayer. According to author and creator of The Adventures of Rooney Cruz, Erin Weidemann, “Rooney Cruz is a character who struggles through the challenges and difficult situations that most girls face as they grow up. We want to help girls identify powerful ways to approach life’s challenges by highlighting real heroes, Heroes For Her™.”
Erin Weidemann is an enthusiastic and goofy mom to two children, one of them with paws. She is a wife, author, teacher, former college athlete and a five time cancer survivor. Her heart is in Seville, Spain, though she calls Encinitas, CA home. In her spare time she enjoys going to the beach with her husband and daughter, coaching softball, and pretending she can bake. She loves eating, laughing, and volunteering at church teaching Sunday school. In addition to being the CEO of Bible Belles she also hosts the Heroes For Her podcast. #BRITEradio #MartyKatinaShow #ErinWeidemann
