The success of others is what fuels our desire to do more, and to move forward with hope. It might also make you “jealous” in some part of your heart, but as long as it's constructive, you're good. We're all feeling stuck at some point in our lives, be it family, work, or connection with Allah. And we do know that Dua is the language of the heart and a heartfelt conversation with Him (swt). But how to make Duas that actually bring a positive change in your life? What makes a person consistently obsessed with doing whatever it takes to achieve? That's what our guest Husain Abdullah has shared in this interview. How Allah carved his journey from being an NFL Football Player to guiding the Ummah to Deen.

Husain Abdullah was born in Los Angeles and raised in Pomona, California as one of 16 in a blended family. Husain and his siblings loved sports. As a child, Husain's eldest brother would give him advice that would inspire him to reach great heights. Husain had a 7-year career on the Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs before retiring from the NFL to pursue his own ventures. Listen to Husain (who, as you will find out in the episode, was also my 4th/5th-grade classmate at the City of Knowledge School) talk about his career journey. Similar to Colin Kaepernick, retired free safety Husain Abdullah had an unconventional NFL career. After four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, Husain and his brother Hamza walked away from their pro football careers in 2012, to take a spiritual journey to Mecca. Upon returning the following year, Husain Abdullah was named captain in his first season with the Kansas City Chiefs. He retired in 2016 at the age of 30, after suffering his fifth concussion.

Aaron Kirby returned, and I couldn’t be more excited. Another great podcast, another great round of Mariners talk. We talked about other things too obviously, ranging from Husain Abdullah to Last Comic Standing (for which Aaron recently auditioned).
