Team Canik shooter, Frank Xu, was approached in Taiwan about coaching/training the Taiwan IDPA Team coming over to shoot IDPA Nationals. Basically, he said, "Challenge accepted!" but in Mandarin Chinese. These shooters are basically airsoft team members. Gun ownership is banned in Taiwan. He trained the 4 of them and they took home 6 awards, including most accurate iron sight shooter. I would say, "Mission Accomplished!" but in my normal American accent. This is a great episode! Enjoy! www.casualshooterpodcast.com https://www.facebook.com/IDPATAIWAN https://www.instagram.com/pewpewtank/

RSWC #072Mike OxDry Fire Training Cards Thanks to the Meet The Presser gents, Klint & Matt, for the use of their Vegas rental car! Attending a SHOT Show 2020 gathering is where I met Mike Ox. He’s an instructor, author, and creator of the Dry Fire Training Cards. The Dry Fire Training Cards would be GREAT to have while the country is working through the virus of March 2020. “Ox” has been shooting since he was a young man. After years of playing sports he got a number of concussions. When he was ‘no holds barred’ fighting in college, he learned to work with Olympic coaches on mental imagery and visualization and control his adrenaline response. Taking this training and combining it with firearm training, he ended up making a dry firing program for himself and it worked very quickly. It became the Tactical Firearms Training Secrets book. He found out he was suffering with vertigo almost every night for 3 ½ years and learned about neurology and how to not have vertigo and keep doing IDPA Nationals. With some research, he discovered that a Vitamin B metabolization issue was causing the problem. After changing types of vitamins, he was healed. The drills he was working on to keep functioning also worked well for performance enhancers, things like visual, balance, hand-eye coordination, improved reflexes all improve his ability to acquire the front sight of his gun. He took these ideas and started teaching students with immediate results. These students improved 20% running full speed at the exercises. He’s lot of methods to teach students to improve their skills very quickly. We do talk about some of the similarities between teaching firearm students and me teaching band students. From the slow is smooth and smooth is fast, to putting information into your brain by gaining knowledge, but more importantly by practicing these skills. He also developed methods to teach people to shoot on the move. Your shoulders have to stabilize the gun, your neck has stabilize the eyes, while your brain makes sure you don’t fall. His methods help you get through various stages and formations of your body to learn to shoot at different positions and be able to see better. There’s no method like it in the country. He can also help you virtually and online. Ox shares things he learned about the brain about parts I’ve never even heard of. And he shares a story about teaching a course to a number of doctors and how his information was able to save a doctor from getting a back surgery. There’s a lot of information that you’ll get from this episode. Make sure you check it all out and visit his website to get lots of information on his training programs. Favorite quotes: “I started using it with students and had ridiculous, immediate results” “You can learn knowledge at a firearms class. You are not going to learn a skill. You’re going to learn about a skill.” “The only way to get from A to B is brute force and a lot of repetition and a good bit of luck.” “If you lay down a foundation of a consistent and efficient draw stroke, speed becomes a byproduct.” Dry Fire Training Cards Website https://dryfiretrainingcards.com/ Dry Fire Training Cards Blog https://dryfiretrainingcards.com/blog/ Tactical Firearms Training Secrets Website http://www.tacticalfirearmstrainingsecrets.com/ Tactical Firearms Training Secrets Book amazon.com/Tactical-Firearms-Training-Secrets-Competition/dp/1470082829 Tactical Vision Training Website https://tacticalvisiontraining.com/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. There's a difference between what's legal and what's moral when it comes to defense of your home and family. Shoot first, ask questions later or defending property with lethal force are bad ideas both legally and morally. Lloyd and Pastor Bennett discuss the moral issues surrounding home defense in Clinging to God & Guns. Plus tips from Sgt. Bill, Mia, and Aaron. THIS EPISODE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY COOK'S HOLSTERS. Ballistic Minute with Sergeant Bill Sgt. Bill is preparing for 50-yard standards stages at IDPA Nationals, and today he shares tips for long-range pistol accuracy. Aaron Israel of Fundamental Defense Hurricane Harvey caught many people in South Texas unprepared. Aaron talks about how prepping for disasters has to start long before the storms arrive. Mia's Motivations with Mia Anstine Mia discusses safe gun storage for hunters in this week's Motivation. Clinging to God and Guns You may have heard people say “If somebody breaks into my house, I'll kill 'em!” That's a dangerous attitude legally and morally. Lloyd and Pastor Bennett discuss the Two Kingdoms doctrine, the concept of vocation, and various home defense scenarios from a Christian perspective. Prayer of the Week Almighty and merciful God, whose gift it is that Your faithful possess all things pertaining to faith and life, we implore You that we may so faithfully cling to Your promises in this life that we fail not finally to attain to Your heavenly glory; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen
We spend a lot of time on the blog and podcast talking about how it’s much superior to learn skills to actually get better at something (shooting mostly) than buying new tools that don’t actually make you better. After talking with Ben a bit this week though, we realized that sometimes buying something new can help to make you better, because having the cool new thing gives you more motivation to practice. The News: IDPA ruled the CZ Accu-Shadow illegal for SSP division just hours before the IDPA Nationals started. This decision left definitely put a hurting on some shooters who were traveling across the country to shoot the Nationals because of the poor timing of it. The California school vice-principal that we talked about in Episode 97 is now suing for wrongful arrest because he was not breaking the law when arrested for having a handgun on school grounds. Turns out, a California CCW permit allows the permit holder to carry in a school. (Yet an NC permit does not…) We play the audio of a 911 call from a Phoenix, AZ woman who was confronted by a home invader that she ended up shooting. It’s interesting to hear the difference in the woman’s voice before the shooting, after the shooting, and once the police arrive. She goes from whispering so she won’t be found by him, to yelling and telling him to shut up after shooting him, to sounding like shes about ready to hyperventilate once the police officers take control of the scene. I edited the clip pretty heavily in the podcast to save time, but you can hear the entire thing in the above link. Plug of the Week This week we plugged Instagram in general. If you like easily consumed shooting match videos, get over on instagram and follow the #IDPA and #USPSA hashtags. We’re over there too, so make sure to follow us as well. Everyday Preparedness September is National Preparedness Month, so take some time to prepare for things that will actually happen. Power will go out Water will become undrinkable or stop flowing to the tap Tires go flat Fires happen The month is about half gone already, so go change the batteries in your smoke detector, buy a couple cases of water, and check the air pressure in your spare tire. Don’t put it off. Call to Action We really like all of the voicemails we’ve been getting lately, but we need more of them. You can click here to leave one from your computer You can call (919) 295-6128 and leave one right from your phone Or you can just record something however you like and email it to
