Jeffrey Madoff's career is a testament to the power of curiosity, risk-taking, and creative resilience. Raised in Akron, Ohio, his early encouragement in reading and the arts laid the foundation for a multifaceted journey through fashion, film, teaching, and authorship. From founding the successful clothing brand Billy Whiskers with no formal design training to pivoting into film and later education, Madoff has consistently followed what excites him rather than conforming to conventional career paths. Central to Madoff's philosophy is a rejection of superficial personal branding in favor of authentic reputation and integrity. He believes real success is built on meaningful relationships and honest self-expression. Madoff encourages people to embrace vulnerability, declare their aspirations publicly, and understand that everyone is a work in progress. His insights demystify imposter syndrome and redefine career development as an evolving process rooted in openness, creativity, and genuine human connection. To put Madoff's insights into practice: read his book Creative Careers: Making a Living with Your Ideas to explore his approach in depth. Follow him on Instagram for daily inspiration through his NYC photography. Apply his advice by taking creative risks, building relationships, and sharing your goals out loud. We're happy you're here! LaPour Partners builds industrial, office, and hospitality space. Jeff enjoys taking on complicated projects. I first met Jeff at the Developing Leaders Institute (DLI) by NAIOP; he was teaching a class called “Market Analysis and Site Selection” with John Restrepo. The lessons Jeff shared in that class stuck with me ever since. Be a Believer in Your Ideas & Have Confidence in Yourself In this episode of Takeaways, Jeff shared wisdom on everything from mentorship to learning through mistakes. He talked about the importance of being aware of what the market is doing and following your instincts, even when others might think you're crazy. “I have learned way more from failing than I ever did from being successful,” he states. As we spoke, Jeff went on to explain how, sometimes, all it takes is confidence in yourself and patience to follow through with what you want. He illustrated this with several examples. One, in particular, stood out to me. Jeff spoke about a deal he got in Arizona by sticking to his convictions, following through on the right thing to do, and being patient that it would pay off in the end. “It goes back to conviction,” he said. “I absolutely had it in my head that I was going to get that deal one way or another.” And it happened! Key Takeaway: Keep it Simple and Have the Courage of Conviction There are so many great Takeaways from this episode of Takeaways. Jeff breaks down the role of commercial real estate developers, and some of the great life-lessons he's learned over the course of his unique career. But in the end, Jeff said it best, “Keep it as simple as humanly possible but also have the courage of conviction.” Takeaways with Jeff LaPour - The importance of having a mentor - Action is key - You have to care to win, and you should always try - Love what you do & believe in what you do I hope you enjoy this episode of Takeaways! So many people have plenty of great ideas. But only a few people actually make theirs see the light of day. Why?Well, in today's episode of The Transition Guy, I'm joined by professor and author of “Creative Careers: Making a Living with Your Ideas”, B. Jeffrey Madoff, to talk about executing ideas successfully, getting things done, and why not a lot of us are able to do just that. The truth is that a lot of us have brilliant ideas, and yet so few of us see them through. Making a living out of our creative ideas is possible but very few do so. Not everyone takes action. You might've, in one occasion or another, said that you've had an idea or a few ones way before anyone else had them. But why have you not done anything with them? What makes executing ideas so difficult that only a couple of us are actually getting things done?As B. Jeffrey Madoff shares, he always starts his first day of class asking students, “How many of you have been…somewhere where you've seen things and said, ‘Oh, I had that same idea! I could've done that.'?” And he follows it up with, “So what's the difference between you and them?”The answer that eventually comes up from the students? Those people actually did it. They made it happen. How can you do that yourself? The first step, as Jeffrey suggests, is to actualize your idea. Have a proof of concept. Put your product or your service out there. Test it and see if there are people willing to buy it.Admittedly, executing ideas isn't the easiest thing to do. But ideas are only as good as what actually makes it to the market. I talk more about getting things done with B. Jeffrey Madoff, so stay tuned until the end to know what it takes to execute ideas successfully.--------------------CONNECT WITH PETER BOOLKAH:--------------------http://www.Boolkah.comhttps://www.facebook.com/Boolkahhttps://www.instagram.com/pboolkah/https://www.linkedin.com/in/boolkahhttps://twitter.com/boolkah--------------------ABOUT PETER BOOLKAH--------------------Peter Boolkah (AKA The Transition Guy) is the World's #1 Business Transition Coach whose main passion in life is to work with talented and high performing business owners who are in the process of creating exciting, high growth businesses. Peter helps you to navigate and transition through the crucial growth pains that all growing businesses experience making it as painless and exciting as possible. It is important to remember that businesses do not just grow and develop on their own, it is up to us and our teams to make this happen by making every day purposeful. As businesses grow some parts of the journey will be easier than others and most owners do not have all the answers. 801: Inventing the Commercialization of the Internet   Inventing the Commercialization of the Internet Ken McCarthy, KenMcCarthy.com   – The Sharkpreneur podcast with Seth Greene Episode 801 Ken McCarthy Ken McCarthy was one of the original pioneers of the movement to commercialize the Internet. He sponsored the first conference on the subject of the Web's commercial potential in 1994 with the then 23-year-old co-founder of Netscape Marc Andreessen as the featured speaker. That same year Ken wrote the first article on e-mail advertising that was published in a legitimate marketing industry trade journal. Rick Boyce, who is widely credited with popularizing the banner ad, credits Ken with introducing him to the idea that the Internet could be used as an advertising medium. Writing for Time Magazine, Tony Halle CEO of Charbeat which provides Internet metrics to over 4,000 major online publishers, credited Ken with being the first to grasp the importance of the clickthrough rate. (This metric is the foundation of both Google and Facebook's fortunes.) Ken's book “The Internet Business Manual” was the first book on Internet entrepreneurship published in Japan and for many years he served as a consultant to NEC, the Japanese equivalent to IBM, advising them on Internet matters. Since 1993, Ken has developed numerous cutting edge training programs that have not only helped his clients make more money but have also served to advance the state-of-the-art in Internet marketing practice. Since its introduction in 2002, Ken's System Seminar has been widely regarded as one of the most practical Internet marketing trainings in the world. In 2008, the United States Patent and Trademark Office granted him the exclusive right to use the phrase “The System” to describe Internet marketing education products. Before entering the Internet field, Ken produced concerts and radio programs; taught advanced learning strategies at MIT and Columbia University; worked on Wall Street; founded a direct marketing consulting company; and helped start an audio postproduction studio in New York City that was involved in the making of an Academy Award winning film and one of the highest grossing foreign language films of all time. Currently, he is a special adviser to levees.org and Friends of Hudson, a board member and adviser to Meals for Health and the proprietor of JazzontheTube, the second most visited jazz web site on the Internet. Ken's work both on and off the Internet has been acknowledged in several books including The Complete Guide to Internet Publicity by Steve O'Keefe, Peak Learning by Ron Gross, and How to Make Millions with Your Ideas by Dan Kennedy. Listen to this illuminating Sharkpreneur episode with Ken McCarthy about inventing the commercialization of the internet.  Here are some of the beneficial topics covered on this week's show: - How the invention of the internet is as important as the invention of the printing press. - Why people who only utilize the internet should be looking at direct mail. - How publishing your own book allows you to stand out in your marketplace.  - Why it's easy for people to lose or forget about your digital ads.  - How you want to set yourself apart with your marketing strategy.  Connect with Ken: Links Mentioned: KenMcCarthy.com Learn more about your ad choices.
