Shot timers don't lie—and if you're not using one, you're probably guessing. In this episode of the MacBroz Podcast, we break down why shot timers are a must for real performance tracking, what happens when Staccato + sand collide, and why grip control matters more than most shooters realize. We also talk about locking in your grip with Mad Science Tactical and wrap it up with what we want to see (and don't want to see) at SHOT Show. This episode is all about real training, real-world gear lessons, and honest conversations—no hype, no fluff.
It is the week that the firearms industry loves to hate: SHOT Show week. As Brent Wheat prepares to pack his bags for Las Vegas and Roy Huntington happily stays home, the duo dives deep into the reality of the world's largest shooting, hunting, and outdoor trade show. Far from just a display of new products, SHOT Show is a massive logistical beast where the actual business of buying and selling takes place behind closed doors, strictly off-limits to direct consumer sales. In this episode, Brent and Roy explore the evolution of the show, specifically focusing on the shifting landscape of media coverage. They discuss the "cleanup" of credentials that reduced the flood of non-serious bloggers, the rise and fall of "trash-talking" influencers, and why manufacturers are returning to long-term relationships with trusted storytellers over frantic viral moments. Whether you are an industry insider or a shooting enthusiast curious about how the sausage is made, this episode pulls back the curtain on the chaotic 14-mile walks and 15-hour days that define SHOT Show. Key Takeaways • The SHOT Show is the 8th largest trade show in the U.S., designed strictly for manufacturers to sell to distributors and dealers, not consumers. • The industry has cracked down on media credentials to reduce the number of hobbyist bloggers and influencers clogging up the show floor. • Manufacturers are shifting marketing strategies away from creators who rely on negativity and algorithms, favoring long-term professional relationships. • The 'frantic' style of covering every single new product release is diluting audiences, leading content creators to focus more on storytelling. • The physical toll of the show is immense, often requiring attendees to walk over 14 miles a day while navigating thousands of exhibitors. • Professionalism matters: Dressing and acting like a business professional significantly impacts access and success at industry events. --- The Guns Podcast is presented by TangoDown. Bullet Points Shawn - Evaluating the Benefits of Modular Suppressors The article discusses the trend of modular suppressors in the firearms community, highlighting their ability to adapt and optimize sound suppression for multiple firearms through interchangeable parts. While they offer benefits such as versatility and efficiency, some users express concerns about complexity and performance trade-offs. The increasing popularity of modular suppressors since 2019 reflects a broader acceptance within the gun community, particularly for those looking to maximize their suppressor use across different weapons while navigating regulatory considerations. Cost: The alert is a call to action for industry members to contact their representatives and advocate for additional funding for the ATF. The NSSF argues that the current disruptions are a result of "outdated and under-resourced IT infrastructure" that requires congressional support to modernize. Different/Special: The alert highlights a massive anomaly in processing volume: On January 1 alone, the ATF processed approximately 150,000 e-Forms, compared to a typical daily average of just 2,500. The NSSF is explicitly encouraging retailers to document these issues and lobby for government spending to prevent future system failures. In Episode 259 of the Long Range Shooting and Custom Rifle Building Podcast, Jamie Dodson answers a question we hear all the time: how long does it really take to become a great shooter? Inspired by a conversation with listener Monty, Jamie breaks down why some shooters can spend 10–20 years on the range and still feel "stuck," while others make huge gains in a short time—once they learn the right fundamentals, get good coaching, and start fixing the small issues that silently wreck performance (rifle setup, ammo, optics, fundamentals, and process). You'll also hear an update as Wolf Precision gears up for SHOT Show—including where to find us (Booth 70310) and why we're excited to show the industry what's next with the Gen 4 ACE Chamber System. Plus: Jamie shares what's coming next on the podcast—a repost of our Fundamentals of Marksmanship series and the Four Pillars of Marksmanship, posted in order so you can follow along and build skill fast. Want to train with us? We have limited openings left for this year at our 3-Day Long Range Shooting School (wolfprecision.net). Double Tap Episode 442 This episode of Double Tap is brought to you by: C&G Holsters, Die Free Co., Night Fision, Blue Alpha, Second Call Defense, and Swampfox Optics Welcome to Double Tap, episode 442! Your hosts tonight are Jeremy Pozderac, Aaron Krieger, Nick Lynch, and me Shawn Herrin, welcome to the show! Text Dear WLS or Reviews +1 743 500 2171 - Dear WLS Dependable Don - So what holsters do you run with your fanny pack? I got the qilo prison wallet which is Velcro backed so crossbreed has holsters that work but not crazy about it. Switch to a blapha or are Velcro backed holsters acceptable? Adam W - I am looking for a red dot that can stand up to a .357 magnum Chippa Rhino. I have put 2 other dots on it I had laying around and now I just want one I don't have worry about. I was thinking the Judge XL from Gideon. Would this be a good choice? The use case for this gun is local matches and range toy. Also, I am looking for a holster for this setup. The Chippa Rhino is the 60ds model with the pic rail in front of the cylinder. Your help is much appreciated. Scanks Adam Luis G - I am in Florida and do a lot of lake bank fishing. What would be a good caliber to carry and what type of rounds to use against alligators? Should I run a couple of snake shot rounds first for moccasins then the gator rounds? Jack B - Matt diniman just did a kickstarter campaign where 2 of the reward tiers included getting killed in a future DCC book. If you were get this prize for another cast member, which option would you choose and how would they die? Option, They are a crawler who gets killed. Option 2, They are a monster or NPC that gets killed by Donut and T-bagged by mongo. Ny(e)gerski - "This one is mostly for Mr. Saggins. Scroto, what are you signed up to hunt this year? I feel like we haven't had any 47 minute long hunting stories in a while and are due for one or 2. P.S.....are you sure you and Kevin from Q aren't kindred spirits?.....I can't tell who tells longer hunting stories... Pee Pee S.....i had something for here, but forgot....and now got you to say pee pee...." Eli K - I am building a new house soon. It will have a vault room in the basement. The floor, ceiling, and all four walls will be poured concrete. Other than that, I'm leaving it unfinished after framing and insulation, and I will take it form there. It will have HVAC and electrical available. What else should I do? Seems like a good idea to put a drain in. I'm tentatively planning to do Lockdown walls. Anything other suggestions? Jerry F - Do either of you guys have any idea where i can find Accurate Nitro 100NF for sale? I've been checking all of the reputable dealers online (Brownells, Midway usa, ammoseek etc) and I haven't been able to find any 4 or 8lb bottles all summer. I shoot trap every weekend with my dad and our local league just started and I commonly go through a hundred plus rounds each weekend. I believe accurate is a division of Hodgdens. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And in your opinions where is all the powder going? Love the show, thank you. Jeremy is not a cunt, he just doesn't have any patience for stupidity. John J - I've recently realized I'm a fan of both Jeremy and Aaron. Which probably means I'm either deeply complex, or there's something wrong with me. Thoughts? Also, would love to see some more Dangerous Freedom videos. I am looking forward to the red dot - magnifier comparison. One of my AR's has a CompM5 with a 3x magnifier. I want to love it for what the combo cost, but I find myself removing the magnifier more often than not. Thanks for the show. The winner of this week's swag pack is John J! Merry Christmas from all of us here at TFB's Behind the Gun Podcast! In our fifth year, we're grateful to have you both as an audience and as our direct supporters. Today, I've brought on TFB Editor in Chief Josh Centers and long-time TFB writer Rusty S. for a fun but pointed discussion on a few important topics to close out 2025. First and foremost is TFB's ongoing Christmas movie debate — which film will come out on top as the quintessential "Gun Guy Christmas Movie"? We also take some time to talk about the new Gun Rights Office being added to the Department of Justice and what that means. Double Tap Episode 441 This episode of Double Tap is brought to you by: Blue Alpha, Midwest Industries, Gideon Optics, Primary Arms, Die Free Co., and Mitchell Defense Welcome to Double Tap, episode 441! Your hosts tonight are Jeremy Pozderac, Aaron Krieger, Nick Lynch, and me Shawn Herrin, welcome to the show! Text Dear WLS or Reviews +1 743 500 2171 - Dear WLS ThreeRaccoons InnaTrenchCoat - What programs do Shawn, Nick and Savage use for 3D modeling? Are they subscription based or free? I would like to dive into 3D modeling but don't really want to pay a subscription. A one-time fee would be okay i suppose. Tuul Steele - "I was thinking Hard the other day about that long, cylindrical reciprocating part of an Assault Railer - 15 and it got me curious (bi-curious) about steel selection for a BCG. YES, I know all steel is not created equally Jeremy, but in the case of the BCG which does the cast recommend and which is just more expensive for no reason. Not talking coatings, although you can add that to the pot, I am mainly referring to the materials; Carpenter 158 aka "The Thing", 9310 aka "The Beverly Hills BCG", or S7 Tool Steel aka "The Audi Tool". Love the show and the cast. You guys are keeping me topside on long days. Keep up the good work. Also just buy Aaron a huffy with a baseball card in the spokes and call it a day. Toss in a bottle of Malort for the basket on the handle bars. #WLSisLife #shootstraight" Plow Guy Dave - What do you think will be the cool, new trend at SHOT Show this year? Do you think that there will be an influx of NFA stuff like SBR's, SBS's and suppressors since the One Big Beautiful Bill will be active? I know you guys don't go to SHOT anymore, but what would you like to see come out? John B - So I was listening to the AR-15 podcast and Dauly keeps saying you need to buy mags in “generational wealth” volume. What is it that you guys think is the appropriate number of mags to have for your rifle and pistol? Do I really need to have 10 mags minimum? Gus Gus - Hello people and Aaron, What one thing do you each think we do or use or teach in the firearms space that we will one day look back on and say “wow, I can't believe we let that happen” (besides letting Aaron speak). Could be anything from gear to training to lawfare practices. For myself, I think open emitter red dots on concealed carry guns will be looked at as weird and genX level fuddery and anyone who uses one will always feel like explaining it away like Jeremy does with iron sights. Thanks guys and Aaron Unfit for Human Consumption - What software would you recommend for tracking a gun collection? I have (only) a few dozen guns, and have been using "NMCollector" since about 2005, and it meets my needs. It is now $15/year which is very reasonable, and a "lifetime" activation is less than 85-bucks. A quick search on the interwebs for alternatives reveals "ArmoryBook" which is $200/yr for up to 50 records, and "GunTrack" which is $100/yr for up to 100 records; both are way over budget for my needs. Are there other softwares I'm not aware of that you'd recommend? I don't keep pictures generally, and all I really need to track is make, model, caliber, description, year & country of manufacture, source, cost, appraised value, etc for insurance records and for my wife to cash in on this "401(G)uns" fund when I'm gone (hopefully not for several decades). Or should I just create an Excel spreadsheet? Sunshine Shooter - Forced Reset triggers seem to be a commercially available thing now, but I'm having trouble keeping track of what is out there. What forced reset triggers/super safeties do you recommend I look into getting for a poor man's MP5 I'm planning on putting together? Matthew P - Just bought a 5 inch VFM-9 from Foxtrot Mike. What accessories would you add to this if you are going to keep it as a backpack gun? Suppressor? Flip up sights and/or red dot/prism? sling? anything else? The winner of this week's swag pack is Gus Gus! To win your own, go to welikeshooting.com/dashboard and submit a question! In this episode of the Long Range Shooting and Custom Rifle Building Podcast, Jamie Dodson kicks off another installment of the Because You Asked series—this one titled "One More Question." If you've ever called a gunsmith with "just one quick question," you already know how it goes… one more question turns into another—and another. In this episode, Jamie tackles two of the most common (and most misunderstood) issues shooters run into, especially when suppressors enter the mix. Why a suppressor sometimes won't thread all the way onto the barrel Carbon buildup, thread length differences, and how to fix it safely Suppressor alignment, bore rods, and how subtle misalignment kills accuracy Velocity increases from suppressors and barrel break-in—and how that wrecks your dope Why factory rifles often struggle with suppressed accuracy Point-of-impact shifts, re-zeroing, and when problems are "normal" vs. a red flag Jamie also shares a real customer story from a failed hunt, explains how compounding unknowns can spiral fast, and gives you a practical checklist to troubleshoot suppressed rifles with confidence. On today's episode, we're welcoming back our good friend Dave from Hi-Point Firearms to talk about upcoming competitions, fun season-appropriate movies, and what Hi-Point has planned for the weeks leading up to and including SHOT Show 2026. Dave has been with the company for years and is deeply involved in marketing while staying closely connected to the rest of the team in Mansfield, Ohio, which makes him a great source for what's new behind the scenes. Even though he works for a brand known for budget-friendly firearms, Dave's personal tastes could not be more different from his day job, so we'll also dig into what one of Hi-Point's finest is actually running at matches and on range days. By the end of the episode, you'll have a better look at both Hi-Point's upcoming offerings and the gear that keeps Dave excited when he steps up to the line. http://livefire-media.com/ - Dave's Podcast @livefirem @hipointfirearms @fullforgegear

A practical guide to Wolf Precision's Level 1–3 builds, Gen-4 ACE with BAT actions, and the new prosumer gunsmithing path. In Episode 251, Jamie Dodson breaks down Wolf Precision's new three-level path for owning a custom ACE-based rifle—designed to save you money, build real skills, and put world-class performance in your hands. Level 1 (Core Kit): all core components minus the trigger, with training to assemble, maintain, and swap calibers/barrels yourself. Level 2 (Assembled Minus One): a fully assembled rifle minus the trigger (two pins and done), perfect for first-timers who want a correct baseline before learning maintenance. Level 3 (Range-Ready): a complete Wolf Precision custom rifle—optics mounted, zeroed, and ready to perform. Jamie explains why we pair the Gen-4 ACE with BAT Machine receivers (Igniter, VR, TR, Bumblebee, Vampire, Vesper, and more): consistency, perfect headspace, and true repeatability. You'll also hear about the upcoming Prosumer Gunsmithing School (online and in-person Armory sessions), live ACE install demos planned for SHOT Show 2026 and the Great American Outdoor Show, and why paying $10–15K for a rifle isn't a prerequisite for excellence. Riding Shotgun With Charlie #237 Erica Chin WOMA's Amateurs & Experts Podcast Heading into SHOT Show season last year, I got an email from someone I didn't know asking me to be on their show at SHOT. Of course, I'm going to say yes. The email was from Erica Chin. She's the co-host of the Women's Outdoor Media Association's podcast called Amateurs & Experts. The other host is Jess Andrich. They talk to people in the firearm and hunting, fishing, outdoor community. We recorded the show at the Otis Technology booth, where they host a number of podcasts, including the shows Matt Mallory and I did during SHOT 2025. Since becoming friends with the ladies, we keep in touch. Erica said she was coming to NRA AM in Atlanta and I said we should film a show despite Jess not being there. She is a SHOT pro, but this was her first time at NRA AM. We actually started the day off by Erica calling me and going to an award ceremony, where Anne Mauro (RSWC #146) received an award for the NRA Women's Golden Bullseye Award for “Industry Woman of the Year.” Erica was also able to meet with her show's sponsors. Growing up in a household run by her father who was a police officer, she was surrounded by firearms, hunting, and the shooting sports. Yet he didn't ask her to join him at the range. The first time she shot was in training to be a probation officer. The training started off with a week of shooting and handling. After the initial training, it went to quarterly range sessions with one magazine for them to shoot. After being married, she found out her husband was into shooting and wanted to get back into it. This move slowly got her into shooting competitions, but mostly it was some social time for her, she wasn't concerned with her score. Her husband said she was more concerned with clothes and snacks at the range and suggested, maybe, she should practice as much as she's concerned about those items. Then he signed her up for 3-gun match at Babes With Bullets, which is hosted with Deb Ferns, (RSWC #204) and Kay and Jerry Miculek. Yeah, she went right to the top tier of competitive shooting! The first 3-gun match set her on a new trajectory. She became a range safety officer just to be able to help at Babe With Bullets in the future. Being around Deb “sucks you in” and Erica went in with both feet. She took a trip from Utah to Montana and went off grid for a while. Eventually, she realized and remembered she has responsibilities at home with a family and she's been more selective of the events she goes to. Erica shares some hunting stories and experiences she's had with BWB & WOMA. She's not afraid to get into the field dressing of the beasts she harvests. With an interest in new things to explore, she and Jess have the gift of gab and were a natural to host the WOMA podcast. They're both fun, up for new adventures, and great with everyone. They've got great chemistry together. They settled with Amateurs & Experts for the name of the podcast because they talk with all kinds of experts in the outdoor community and want to reach the amateurs. Their second season of pod is dropping now, so find them on your favorite podcast outlets. Besides being an RSO with BWB, and a probation officer, she's trained to drive Code 3, which means she can drive with lights and sirens. Being a person who enjoys expanding her horizon, she became a massage therapist so she could give massages at BWB. She's also taken classes for funeral science. There's a lot going on with her! Favorite quotes: “Once you meet Deb Ferns, you drink the Kool-Aid.” “As a female it's tough to find places where we fit into hunting, where we fit into shooting sports, where we fit into fishing, and WOMA really encourages women to get out there.” “I went to school for funeral science.” “The last thing you can give someone is dignity in their death.” WOMA https://www.thewoma.org/ WOMA Facebook https://www.facebook.com/TheWOMA/ WOMA Instagram https://www.instagram.com/womensoutdoormediaassociation/ WOMA LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-woma/ WOMA X https://x.com/WOMA_the Amateurs & Experts Podcast https://www.thewoma.org/podcast Amateurs & Experts Podcast Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/7yZEor7j1SFBuB9LhWWHVm Babes With Bullets Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BabesWithBullets/ WOMA's She Never Quit Charity https://www.thewoma.org/snq Second Amendment Foundation https://secure.anedot.com/saf/donate?sc=RidingShotgun Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. We talked about the hots... now we talk about the nots....
Riding Shotgun With Charlie #236 Zeke Stout MGS Trade School Zeke and I have been running into each other at various events for a few years. If I remember correctly, Yehuda Remer (RSWC #012) introduced us at SHOT Show. Zeke is a great guy, very personable and funny. Matt Mallory & I have done some live shows with Zeke, including on at SHOT Shot 2025. He's been talking to me about doing a show in Memphis and we were able to pull it off after the NRA Annual Meetings in Atlanta this year. We started across the street from Graceland, yes, where Elvis Presley lived. He warned me to watch out for high speed chases as they have the best drop guns in Memphis! Zeke has made a great career for himself and in several fields. He started in medical sales, pharmaceutical sales, and medical supply sales just to have a solid income. The hours were neverending, being on call all the time. So it was time to move on. At one point, he got some help from an entrepreneurial friend and learned about marketing. This was his new passion. He's been able to use that throughout his career and in many of the fields. They opened a car dealership in Clarksville, TN, and he decided to get his carry permit. Once he was into firearms, he turned it full on. During drives to work he would call and talk with his friend Marty “Lefthand” Holder and they would talk about guns and called it Talking Lead. It hit them that they should start a podcast. His entrepreneur friend owned a Mexican radio station and he asked if they could use the studio to record their podcast. For a while, both Zeke and Vanessa Mandrel had a radio show called Projectile Disfunction. Within four episodes of Talking Lead, they learned there were other great firearm content creators who lived within 30 minutes. Folks like Hickok45, .22 Plinkster, and TNOutdoors9. James Yeager wasn't too far away either. Their episode with Hickok got them into 117 countries. In six months, they were one of the largest gun podcasts in the world. At one point, Zeke started doing marketing for a gunsmithing school who shall not be named. He took that company and grew them over 340% in four years. One day, he opened a message on LinkedIn and there was a message from a casting agency. They wanted him to audition to be a judge for gunsmithing on the show Master of Arms on Discovery Channel. According to him, the way to win an audition is to not care. Once they found out that he had other media and podcasting skills, they wanted him to host the show. Ashley Hlebinsky (RSWC #130) was also on that show. Unfortunately, the show only lasted one season. After the TV season of life, he took a hiatus from firearms and got into marketing in the motorcycle world. Yes, one day a week, he had to ride his bike for work! After a while of motorcycle marketing, he reached out to Modern Gun School, MGS. Part of the offer was to do what he did for the other company, but this time he wanted to be a part owner. One of the first things they did was rebrand to MGS Trade School so that it was much more acceptable. If that wasn't enough, Zeke took that marketing skill and got into golf while his son was taking lessons. He started Dilligolf. It's short for “Do I look like I golf.” He's been growing that YouTube channel, too. It was such a fun show to record and to hang out with Zeke. We do take a call from Yehuda Remer, The Pew Pew Jew. He's got so many stories and tells them well. You'll really get to know him and see what a great guy he is. Oh yeah… we do see a high speed chase and pick up a drop gun. As he says, “we've got the best drop guns in Memphis.” Favorite quotes: “Whenever I get into anything, I dive in, absolute head first.” “Talking Lead was started in a Mexican radio station in Nashville.” “What just happened? We might have something on our hands.” “Dude, we didn't know you did all this. Why don't you audition for the host of this show?” “I'll form an LLC and write off all my golf expenses. And I did.” MGS Trade School https://mgs.edu/ MGS On YouTube http://youtube.com/@mgstradeschool MGS Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MGSTradeSchool/ MGS X https://x.com/mgstradeschool MTS IG https://www.instagram.com/mgstradeschool/ Dilligolf YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@Dilligolf MTR Defense https://mtrdefense.com/ Second Amendment Foundation https://secure.anedot.com/saf/donate?sc=RidingShotgun Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. Send us a textOkay, so you know that moment when you kinda want to believe in manifesting but also don't want to be that person taping crystals to their debit card? SAME. Which is exactly why this convo with Denise Duffield-Thomas was so damn refreshing.Denise is a money mindset coach who's all about helping people (especially women!) feel good about receiving, spending, and growing their wealth—without shame, guilt, or vibing your way into bankruptcy. She's got this no-BS vibe (my kinda gal) and makes the whole “abundance” thing feel accessible… and dare I say… fun?In this episode, we go deep into the sneaky money blocks that might be holding you back—like thinking rich people are jerks or feeling guilty about charging for your services. And she also shares some real talk on why self-sabotage kicks in the moment things start to get good.We also get into the wild idea that you're actually allowed to like money. Yep. Not just tolerate it or hope to make enough to cover the mortgage—but to enjoy it, feel safe around it, and let it support the version of you that is totally thriving. (Mind. Blown.)I also share a few of my own (messy) money stories and Denise coached me right there on the podcast. Like, actual breakthroughs. And if I can have them while podcasting in my gym shorts—you can totally have them too.So if you're ready to ditch the scarcity, make bank, and keep it real? This episode's for you. What's Inside:Why Denise believes everyone has money trauma—and how to stop letting it call the shotsHow to rewrite the old stories (from your family, culture, or industry) that keep you under-earningWhy manifesting isn't about “thinking positive” 24/7—and what actually worksHow to set up your life to be wildly abundant, without burning out or selling your soulReal Talk—Let's Dream Big for a Sec: What does “rich” actually mean to you? Is it rocking the designer bag or being so stupidly wealthy you get to give more than you keep? Is it changing your life and the world around you? Because I'm telling you—whatever version of rich you're dreaming about? That could totally be you.Denise and I are proof that you can want money, feel good about it, and still be a grounded, generous badass. So tell me, if money weren't the problem, what kind of impact would you make?
