Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP The Giro has finished for another year, which means all eyes are now shifting to the big one; Le Tour. We're just under a month away from the Grand Depart, so who better to speak to than an Aussie legend that's won stages in all three Grand Tours, nearly won the Vuelta last year, bagged himself the Silver medal at the World Champs, and narrowly missed the podium at the Tour back in 2021 - that's right, it's Perth's own Ben O'Connor! Now in his 9th pro season, Ben's just joined the Aussie team over at Greenedge. I wanted to know what it's like for him finally signing for the only Australian World Tour team as an Aussie rider representing over in Europe. He's a proud Western Australian, hailing from Subiaco over in Perth, and I wanted to know how he felt about the riding and racing scene over there; especially after they hosted the Aussie nationals over this year! Ben's career so far has seen him consistently improving year on year, and without doubt 2024 was the best season he's had so far. He won himself a stage early on in the Vuelta - completing the Grand Tour set to go along with his stages in the 2020 Giro and 2021 Tour - led the race for 2 weeks and almost won the overall before being Roglified by a storming Slovenian on his way to his 4th victory at the Spanish race. On top of this, Ben finished 2nd at the World Champs - establishing himself as a real one-day contender after getting the better of the likes of Van Der Poel and Remco! Of course, a lot of you might know Ben best for his role in the ‘Tour de France: Unchained' series over on Netflix. I wanted to find out more about what it was like racing the biggest race of the season with cameras in your face all day, and how he felt about the way the series portrayed him. As always, we end up talking about all sorts: Ben's career so far, the highs, the lows, fatherhood, what Ben likes doing away from cycling, and more. I also wanted to chuck in some listener questions! That's right, those of you that heard the call and sent in your questions for Ben'O get some airtime on this month's pod. I love hearing your questions and pitching them to Ben, so make sure you listen to hear what he had to say! I've loved watching Ben's career and seeing him grow into a real Grand Tour contender. How could I not, he's an Aussie - especially now he's over on Greenedge rocking that fresh MAAP kit! It's no secret that Ben's number one goal this year is the Tour de France, so I had to ask him if he thinks Pogi can be beaten. What does Ben think? You'll have to listen to find out… Enjoy this ep, guys. Ben's a great guest and I had a blast having a yarn with him about bikes, wine, Netflix, and heaps more. Good luck in France this July, Ben! Can't wait to see you giving it to old mate Tadej! Cheers, Mitch! ----more---- This episode is brought to you by our friends at Saily. If you're heading overseas for your next ride or trip? This episode is a very honest and open conversation following the Barcelona LCQ where unfortunately Maria didn't manage to secure her spot in the Elite 15 at World Champs. She opens up about having some tough races and not coming out with the result she has hoped for or knows she is capable of. We talk about how to deal with this and that it is important not to tie your identity to a race result. Maria tells us about her awesome Pro Doubles race in Miami with Jess Pettrow where they qualified for the Elite 15 Doubles at Worlds and we also talk about the difference between racing doubles and solo. We also delve into more about Marias background and what she's changed in her training moving from endurance to Hyrox. It was such a pleasure to record this episode and great to get an insight into elite racing in this ever growing sport and hear more about how the standard just keeps levelling up. Follow Maria on instagram @mariacfecik to see how she gets on in Chicago and if you're interested in coaching you can find her @holisticathletefc Give the show and follow and share this episode if you enjoyed it, we would really appreciate it :) You can find us @rad_chix_ to keep updated with who we have on the show next! There are guests whose stories are filled with incredible achievements. And then there are guests whose stories crack you open—with their heart, their humility, and their humanity.Today's guest, Rebecca Rusch, is all of the above.Rebecca is one of the world's most extraordinary endurance athletes—a 7-time World Champion, mountain bike hall-of-famer, best-selling author, Emmy Award winner, and activist. She has not only pushed herself to the physical edge through rock climbing, whitewater rafting, and multi-day adventure races like Eco-Challenge—she has also traveled to the emotional core of what it means to live fully, love deeply, and be good. You may know her from the acclaimed documentary Blood Road, which follows Rebecca's 1,800-kilometer mountain bike journey along the Ho Chi Minh Trail to locate the site where her father's plane went down during the Vietnam War. That quest wasn't just about closure—it was about connection, healing, and honoring the man who shaped her spirit. In this deeply moving episode of the Cracking Open podcast, we explore:✨ How the loss of her father at a young age ignited a lifelong search for meaning✨ What growing up with a single, hard-working mom taught her about strength and self-reliance✨ The power of curiosity, nature, and endurance to reveal who we really are✨ How a traumatic brain injury forced her to slow down—and reimagine what success looks like✨ Why “being good” matters so much more than being perfectWhat we didn't know when we scheduled this conversation was that Rebecca's beloved mom would pass away just one week before we recorded. And so what unfolds in this episode is not just an interview—it's a powerful reflection on how we live, how we love, and how we show up for the people who matter most.Rebecca's story is one of grit, grace, and growth. And at the heart of it all is a simple message from her father, who signed every letter home from Vietnam with the same two words: Be Good. It's a mantra that continues to guide her—and now, maybe, it will guide you too.
Send us a textOn this latest episode its great to chat to an Agegrouper who represents New Zealand.Rebecca says "I'm a New Zealand age group triathlete and particularly enjoy sprint and off-road triathlon such as XTERRA. I started running for fitness at university and evolved into triathlon and all things swim bike run. I enjoyed pushing my limits and seeing what I was capable of. I have competed in various World Triathlon events for NZ, including two Cross Triathlons, Duathlon, Aquathlons and Sprint Triathlon. I have also raced several XTERRA events, and love trying out all sorts of multisport including swim run and gravel - I recently did the TransCape swimrun in Dunsborough. I also enjoy bikepacking and have ridden some epic trips in NZ. I've also enjoyed a couple of epic camps in NZ run by John Newsom from the IM Talk podcast. In NZ I ended up with a group of friends who loved doing endurance adventures! This winter I'm training for the Larapinta trail run in August in Alice Springs and the Gravel Muster the weekend after. This will be an awesome training camp 2 months out for World Champs in Wollongong in October where I'm representing NZ in the sprint. I am associated with the Fremantle Triathlon Club in Western Australia and have previously been a member of Wellington Triathlon Club, Tauranga Triathlon Club in NZ and the Thames Valley Triathletes in the UK which is where it all started for me! I have a personal website (made2move.fit) where I share my passion for movement and outdoor endurance events. The Phillies are set to compete against the defending World Series champions, the LA Dodgers. As the first pitch approaches, we analyze the series matchup. While this encounter promises excitement, it is important to note that it occurs early in the MLB season, limiting its potential for providing additional insights. We also explore the Eagles' draft strategy, particularly in relation to the status of Dallas Goedert. An outside pass rusher appears to be the primary target, but if Goedert is no longer part of the roster, the team may need to consider finding a suitable replacement. Joining us on the show is Mike Kern, who will share his thoughts on the NFL Draft and offer his perspective on the structure of both the NCAA Men's and Women's games.
Joining us today for In the House is Emma Miskew the second player on the newly crowned world champion Rachel Homanteam. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Two weeks after he made history at the BMW IBU World Championships with a pair of silver medals, U.S. biathlete Campbell Wright reflected on his accomplishments. Heartbeat caught up with Campbell relaxing in his hotel room at Nové Město, mentally preparing for the resumption of the BMW IBU World Cup.“Yeah, that was a pretty cool two weeks,” he said said with a grin!At the World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, Wright took silver in the sprint then backed it up the next day with silver in the pursuit. It was the first double medal for the U.S. men in history.Wright talked about how he approached the day just like any other. “I never had any expectations going into any race because that just leads to failure and disappointment,” he said. “And bad things every single time. So, no expectations as always. And, yeah, it's a good way to set yourself up for success.”In the Heartbeat interview, Wright recapped both races – where he found strengths, and where he found challengers. In the sprint, he shot clean, and had only one miss in four shootings in the pursuit. In the sprint, he ran well before some of the race favorites, so he had to endure a wait in the finish before he knew the outcome – with the top 15 biathletes in the world starting behind him. But one thing he knew from the start – he was happy with his performance.“It kind of sunk in when Fillon Maillet crossed the line, and he was behind me,” he said. “That's when I was like, ‘oh yeah, okay. Yeah, you've done well here, Campbell!'”With the pursuit the next day, there was little time for celebration. It was a surreal experience for Wright starting second. He missed one shot in the first shooting, but was clean the rest of the way. Still, it was a battle to the finish to hold onto the silver medal.Despite having just joined the U.S. Biathlon Team two years ago, the historic moment was not lost on him. Most of all, he spoke of what it meant for him to be on a list with his childhood heroes, Tim Burke and Lowell Bailey. Burke took silver in 2013 at Nové Město, while Bailey won gold at Hochfilzen in 2017.“I started watching biathlon or getting to become familiar with biathlon when Tim and Lowell were really in their heyday,” said Wright. “I don't think I'm there career-wise, but on the medal tally it says I am. But in real life, I still don't think I can compare my career to those guys.”Campbell Wright really opens up in this episode of Heartbeat. He showcases his motivations, philosophies as an athlete, and the vital importance of the support he has had from U.S. Biathlon to help him get there.
