This week episode is all about the never ending battle between design influencers and designers. Just kidding! But the Hotties are talking about how the two business models differ and their experiences on both sides. It take a lot to do them successfully and running two businesses isn't as glamorous as it sounds. Shaun got to go to his first dinner party since February 2020 pre-covid. He shares more about how LGBT people create safe spaces to be authentically themselves. This episode was recorded when we were together during Las Vegas Market in April 2021. The blurred line between design influencers and designers can make it challenging for someone outside of the design industry to understand why they're each different Feedback from our 2021 Listener Feedback Survey suggested a number of designer influencers for potential interview We talk about what we're looking for in a guest episode and interview We focus on the value a designer can offer to all of our listeners when we consider them for an episode The main difference in the business model of design influencers is selling product - either through wholesale designer-exclusive vendors or via retail goods. It's possible to be a design tastemaker without monetizing it to become an influencer Amber Interiors and Studio McGee have been examples for many designers. Amber Lewis recently partnered with http://www.portolapaints.com/ (Portola Paints) on work for her own home, and launched her own line with https://www.anthropologie.com/amber-lewis?utm_medium=paid_search&utm_source=google&utm_source=Google&utm_content=US_-_Designer_-_Amber_Lewis_-_General&utm_term=Amber_Lewis_Home&utm_campaign=US_-_Designer_-_Amber_Lewis&creative=484044549004&device=c&matchtype=b&network=g&gclid=Cj0KCQjwvr6EBhDOARIsAPpqUPG3rUNqz-0Cmj5Qc4gqmzxQqo-w4IILuAHP632JRFRYpRXYsS4zCLEaAp62EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds (Anthropologie) Ginny MacDonald talked about her partnership with Lulu & Georgia when we interviewed her for https://player.captivate.fm/episode/ba0813b8-0125-4c42-a781-d0dbcbec94d0/ (Episode 6) We talk about developing a strategy to build a following and understanding the "why" a follower base can help you depending on your business growth goals Not all designers want a boutique or a shop Designer led e-commerce platforms like https://www.kathykuohome.com/ (Kathy Kuo Home) or https://www.burkedecor.com/ (Burke Decor) sell a lot of products from wholesale designer sources Your own home can be a great place to experiment with your design style and push your creative limits Consider using blogging as a method to build trust with potential clients and build your audience More content on Pinterest and increasing your SEO performance can increase traffic to help clients find you There aren't as many influencers who are actively working interior designers We can learn a lot from influencers about marketing strategies, how they build their audiences, and how they present themselves authentically As designers we need to get out of our own heads and put ourselves out there on...
This week the Hot Young Designers roll through their list of red flags for projects and clients. Chances are that you've heard some of them before: "I just need a few pieces", "I really have an eye for design", or "I have a few edits for your contract". You might have been fooled once, but now that you've learned the signs you can learn how to educate, inform, and recognize the right clients and projects. Questions/comments? Don't be distracted by project budgets or how cool clients seem Rely on your instincts and learn to listen to them Avoid clients who want to live their designer fantasy and not give control over to you Beware of litigation happy attorneys Does anyone really just need a few pieces? Don't change your contract to benefit clients unless there's something in it for you too Watch out for unrealistic timelines even after educating clients Why didn't things work out with their last designer? How do your clients make decisions?
Does Hazel remotely like Tarik or is she just frontin' for a green card? Is Rebecca overusing her Vistaprint / Shutterfly account? Is Ukraine truly nicer than Bourbon St in NOLA? "I have faced my ghosts like Rebecca has faced hers, and I am no longer afraid of this story and the emotions it brings out for me." Part 2 of our final discussion on Let Them Go focuses on the mythological, where were come back to the Maiden, Mother, Crone archetype, but also delve into ancient Fertile Crescent myths that have a special significance to one of our show hosts. Our story has monsters and ghosts, but what happens if we consider the story as an allegory for apotheosis? Is Rebecca regaining her life and agency not unlike a goddess coming into her own? One thing is for certain: even after the conversation is done and recorded, sometimes new insights can be found afterwards, while editing a podcast all pretty for others to enjoy. Make sure to listen to the end, as I included some hilarious outtakes that I decided didn't fit in with the conversation, but were too much fun to throw away! (I also apologize for any background noise that sounds like I keep bumping my microphone, I don't know what the noise comes from since it's a headset, and I haven't yet figured out if there is a way to remove it, since it doesn't show up as background noise.) #BlackLivesMatter #WrathMonth Recommended links for fun and profit learning: Dan Olsen - "Annihilation and Decoding Metaphor" https://youtu.be/URo66iLNEZw The courtship of Inanna and Dumuzi http://jewishchristianlit.com/Texts/ANEmrg/Inanna&Dumuzi.html The Mesopotamian Underworld https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Mesopotamian_underworld Inanna's Descent https://www.ancient.eu/article/215/inannas-descent-a-sumerian-tale-of-injustice/ Lindsey Ellis - "Is Titanic Good, Actually?" https://youtu.be/hW4U_lfgPac The New Century Multiverse books and audio dramas can be found on: https://www.newcenturymultiverse.com Intro is "Moonrise" by Chad Crouch Outro is "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" by Sarah Mclahlan
Uhhhhh does your Top 5 Desert Island All Time Best Podcasters list include Richie Owens, Rebecca Bulnes, and/or inventor of podcasting about movies, DAVID SIMS??? Well then BOY do we got an episode for you!! This week Richie and Rebecca are feeling so blessed to have finally arrived at the juice of Jack Black’s career (the 2000s) and to do so with Simsy himself? That is simply rock and roll. Do R&R get David to scat? Is it fair how hot Lisa Bonet is? Does this movie age well? Does Richie go off king about Chicago? How did Jack rev himself up to perform? Is Rebecca single because she was like Rob Gordon? All this and more on this PIVOTAL episode!!
This week on Jacking Off with Rebecca and Richie, the two R’s discuss Tim Robbins’ 1999 film Cradle Will Rock. A movie that has a lot going on and nothing going on at the same time. What happens when Richie has control of the board? Does anything good happen with one of the most incredible ensembles ever made? What do you mean no? Is Rebecca a better singer than Emily Watson? Does the most epic meet up of two actors happen in this movie? Do people know it happened? Is Susan Sarandon’s Italian accent racist? What happens in this movie? All of these questions and more will be answered on this week’s Jacking Off! ALSO, the two R’s do a quick rundown of Jack’s decade and discuss which films of his they’re looking forward to the most. As well as discussing the viral clip of Jack Black’s interview with GQ and listen to the new Third Man Records single from Tenacious D. See ya in 2020! Come Jack Off with us. Cradle Will Rock is streaming on Cinemax I guess.
It was a weekend of Carabao Cup Final chaos and a bizarre Man Utd vs Liverpool showdown - with plenty for Rebecca and Alex to discuss. First, a great Chelsea performance completely overshadowed by one of the strangest incidents ever seen on a football field - we dig into the Kepa Arrizabalaga saga and discuss who's really to blame in this sorry situation. Is Rebecca really 'Team Kepa'? At Old Trafford, strange happenings were going on as players were dropping like flies but is a point for Liverpool really that bad? Plus, we look at Pochettino's meltdown, Leicester City sacking Claude Puel, and ask who are the nicest players at Liverpool? ***Please take the time to rate and review us on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts, as it makes it easier for other potential listeners to find us. Tonya, Suzanne, and Amber (sort of) are back to discuss Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's episode, "I Can Work With You." Put on your seat belts because, unlike so many past episodes, this one is about sliding forward, not back. Is Rebecca finally going to figure out her relationship with Hebecca? Will Greg finally tell Rebecca what he keeps wanting to say? Will Paula and Scott win Trial By Fire? Can Josh achieve his dream of influencer? Will sports lead Nathaniel to become nice? (Like, actually nice?) Is Hector going to wind up in the river? Did Guardrail bring the donuts? We answer your questions, award our Giant Pretzels of the week, and give our self-care recommendations for staying healthy and decidedly more Bunch-like. Wow. Can you believe that Classroom Crush is back for a “second season”? Last you heard her, Rebecca was moving away from Chicago and saying bye to a boy she kissed. Now, Rebecca lives in New York...but will she have sex in the city?? Looks bad so far tbh. For this loopy season premiere, Rebecca is on no sleep and is joined by everyone’s favorite dirty boy Ben Hosley!! You know him from Blank Check and comedy, duh. On this ep: Ben smokes weed and is on Raya now, Rebecca is dating the city and the show is still problematic. Ben is telling the story of LANA, a 20 YEAR crush figure!!! He recalls tuba body shaming, lab partner romance, a golf course parking lot scene, virginities, bad flirts, PLUS the most earnest minute in the history of podcasting! Why does Ben love wild girls? Is Rebecca “okay”? Find out! The boys are truly back in town!!! Writer and comedian Rebecca Drysdale (Key and Peele, High Maintenance) joins Griffin and David for a conversation on the animated superhero family adventure, The Incredibles. But what is Syndrome’s villainous motivations? Is Rebecca the Pixar of people? And, seriously, where is Frozone’s super suit? Together they discuss their favorite Pixar films, earning tears, turtlenecks and summer camp. Is Rebecca a bit too into this movie? Probably. Do Claire's-es bankruptcy woes spell trouble for Jackie's yearning to recreate the pageboy hat and chunky necklace combos of the mid-2000s? Yes. Are these things related? You'll have to listen to our RAVE review of Brenda Song star vehicle Wendy Wu Homecoming Warrior to find out. We talk about people named Polly, we talk about Brenda dating Macaulay, (see what we did there?) and we pitch a Passover DCOM. Come get these cookies! Another week, another jam-packed episode. Just like the last two weeks, this episode was intense. 304? Intensely hilarious and over the top. 305? Intensely real and terrifying. 306? Intensely cathartic and inspirational. Shea joins Suzanne and Amber to bear witness to characters facing their fears, feeling angry/mad, and and finding ways to be so (co-dependently) maternal. Add a touching musical declaration and a 3-minute poop joke and you have Crazy Ex-Girlfriend episode 306, "Josh Is Irrelevant." Is Rebecca really going to face this new diagnosis head on? At this point, does Valencia common-law live in that apartment? Why can't NP3 reach out? Will Paula continue to top each brilliant hand gesture?
