May's phobia is decidophobia and the fear of making decisions. This week the fiends Totemlydrunk and Grindhouse Zombie are dive into Jordan Peele's GET OUT. The horror at the heart of Get Out isn't simply that Chris makes the wrong choices. It's that the choices available to him were never really choices at all. We get into why Get Out is one of the most precisely constructed horror films of the last 20 years and how Peele uses every convention of the genre not as decoration but as an argument.
Episode 200: Valley Heat by Christian Duguay This month marks the 200th episode of Dead Pilots Society, which feels like a real milestone for a show that requires considerably more coordination than a couple of people just turning on microphones and talking. Every pilot episode means finding a pilot, assembling a cast, and putting together a live reading, so reaching 200 episodes feels genuinely significant. While this is the show's 200th episode, it's also the 118th dead pilot the podcast has brought to life so far. For the occasion, we wanted something special, and this month's pilot more than fits the bill: Valley Heat, written by Christian Duguay. Andrew has previously called Valley Heat (another Maximum Fun show) one of the greatest achievements in podcasting, and after connecting with Christian last year, learned that a pilot version of the podcast existed. After much persistence, Dead Pilots Society finally got the chance to stage it live at the Elysian Theater. Set in Burbank's Rancho Equestrian neighborhood, Valley Heat captures the bizarre rhythms of suburban life in a way that's both deeply specific and completely unhinged. For anyone discovering Valley Heat for the first time, this episode may be the perfect introduction. The live reading also features many of the recognizable voices from the original podcast appearing onstage in person, making for a uniquely surreal experience. The cast includes: Christian Duguay (Plantman & Blondie, The Dress Up Gang), Kevin CamIa (Fallout), Mike O'Connell (DTF St Louis, Patriot), Merrill Davis (Comics Unleashed, Time Out Comics to Watch), Emily Maya Mills (Key and Peele, Orange is the new Black), Matt Braunger (stand up), Chris Garcia (WTF, This American Life, Scattered), Beth Stelling (Netflix, HBO Max comedy), DeMorge Brown (Destroy All Neighbors) Video of the live table read is available exclusively to Maximum Fun members. A grown man in a swimming pool, fully clothed, hiding under a deck. That's the scene that opens Anna Peele's new book, and, depending on who you ask, the moment Love Island became one of the biggest shows in the world. Author Anna Peele joins Kaate to talk about Enter the Villa: The (Unauthorized) Reality Behind Love Island, her two-year investigation into how a canceled 2005 disaster became a cultural juggernaut, what nearly a hundred interviews taught her about why the show works on us, and what it costs the people who make it.
Our series on Hollywood's pronoun films reaches its peak with a look at hte marriage between Lupita Nyong'o and Winston Duke in Jordan Peele's 2019 horror classic Us! Join in as we discuss Peele's striking visual sense, rabbit cinema, nontraditional weapons, and the movie's satisfying but controversial refusal to give real answers to its mysteries. Plus: Why does Nyong'o work so infrequently? How much time does the central family spend at this vacation home? How widespread is the tether underground? What's going on with Peele's next movie? And, most importantly, what real-life figure inspired Nyongo's voice as the villainous Red? Make sure to rate, review, and subscribe! On this mind-bending episode of Big Trouble in Little Podcast, Andy, Joe Dubs, Zac, and Chaz step into the modern dimension of The Twilight Zone to unpack two standout episodes from Jordan Peele's revival: “Meet in the Middle” and “Ovation.” The crew dives into themes of ambition, identity, legacy, and the hidden cost of success, breaking down how these episodes twist classic Twilight Zone ideas through a contemporary lens. From uneasy deals with the universe to the price of artistic obsession, the hosts analyze what works, what stumbles, and how Peele's vision honors — and challenges — Rod Serling's original spirit. Expect deep discussion, sharp critiques, and plenty of philosophical detours as the guys ask whether these stories truly earn their place in The Twilight Zone.

Send us a textEver notice how some jokes age like fine wine while others turn flat the second the credits roll? We dig into that sweet spot where craft, culture, and timing collide—starting with the thorny question of separating art from the artist as the Diddy headlines swirl, then moving straight into the films and shows that shaped our comedic DNA. From Boomerang's Black elegance and Harlem Nights' stacked cast to Life's eternal quotables, we unpack why Eddie Murphy still holds the belt for big-screen comedy while Jamie Foxx might be the most versatile performer of his generation—piano, pipes, and punchlines on demand. We run a spirited bracket on the funniest Black sitcoms to last five seasons, with Martin winning on character work alone—Dragonfly Jones, Jerome, and Otis still crack us up. Then it's a lap through sketch comedy's hall of fame: In Living Color as blueprint, Chappelle's Show as peak, and the ripple effect across Key & Peele. TV nostalgia hits hard with New York Undercover and a spicy take on The Wire, raising the question of what's timeless versus what's just beloved. Along the way, we share personal stories, unexpected cameos we forgot we knew, and the kind of lived-in details you only get from rewatching classics at 2 a.m.Horror fans get a full segment too. We draw clean lines between thrillers and slashers, break down why The Conjuring rattled grown folks, and revisit Candyman's lingering dread. Even spoofs get their flowers—Scary Movie, Hollywood Shuffle, and a few cult picks that still surprise. We close with a tight watch list—Vampire in Brooklyn and Talking Dirty After Dark included—and a big takeaway: classics aren't crowned by hype, they're proven by rewatch value, quotability, and how well they keep saying something real long after the moment passes. If you laughed, argued with us in your head, or added a title to your queue, follow the show, share this episode with a friend, and drop your top five comedies in a review. Your list might change ours next week. Thanks for listening to the Nobody's Talking Podcast. This film...wow. The spiritual successor to The Thing With Two Heads, we discuss 1990's Heart Condition, easily the worst film Denzel has ever been in. In what feels like an attempt to cash in on the success of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, this poorly imagined race comedy inserts Denzel into the Roger Rabbit role and instantly jumps into our worst things we've watched list. An insane film where Bob Hoskins throws out slurs left and right and somehow ends up the father of a Black child. We ask if this is Denzel's worst role, what even makes a good racial comedy, and invent the role of racism stunt double (Key and Peele call us!). As always, hit us up on the socials at @whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod on IG and TikTok and write to us at whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod@gmail.com We'll be back next week to talk about the recently released remake of The Running Man.
Here's what nobody tells you about building wealth: it's not about finding the perfect investment or timing the market. It's about doing boring things consistently until they're not boring anymore—they're just your life. In this Greatest Hits episode, Joe Saul-Sehy and OG revisit a 2023 conversation with Jonathan Clements, the beloved former Wall Street Journal personal finance columnist and founder of Humble Dollar who passed away recently. We're resharing this episode to honor Jonathan's legacy, his gift for making complex ideas simple, and the joy he brought to every conversation about money. Jonathan's book, My Money Journey, features 30 real stories from real people who built financial freedom—and the lessons are surprisingly simple (which doesn't mean easy). In this conversation, Jonathan breaks down what separated the people who made it from the people who kept spinning their wheels: steady habits, ruthless simplicity, and the kind of resilience that lets you keep going when life throws curveballs. From emergency funds that actually saved people to the rent vs. buy debate that reveals more about your priorities than your budget, this conversation cuts through the complexity to show you what actually matters. Jonathan's wisdom feels even more valuable now—a reminder that the best financial advice isn't about chasing trends, it's about building a life that works for you. Joe and OG also tackle listener questions, including whether to relocate for a better job and how to balance saving for tomorrow without sacrificing today. Plus: Doug's trivia, a Key & Peele-inspired TikTok minute, and proof that the best financial teachers leave lessons that last long after they're gone. Me-WOW the GBGBs are back with episode 2 of the Cat Season with a review of KEANU (2016). Remember this movie? It's basically a 90 min Key and Peele sketch where two friends try to rescue their new beloved kitty from a ruthless kingpin. The kitten is voiced by GBGBs alum Keanu Reeves, but only for like 3 seconds unlike what the internet told us. The GBGBs also bring back their very ill-advised audio improv segment and discuss whether or not this is a true "Cat Movie" (TM). Thanks for stopping by!
We just saw one of the most entertaining World Series matchups we'll likely ever witness. Yet so many arguments after the fact boil down to nitpicking certain plays, criticizing the Dodgers for spending money and "ruining" baseball, and calling people stupid for not doing a specific thing. Sure, fans of the teams actually playing can go a little bonkers, but the rest of us? We can probably all just enjoy high-quality sports at their finest.Speaking of bonkers, how about the end of that Bears/Bengals game? Plus, a few other NFL shenanigans, one of our favorite touchdown celebrations of the year, and a surprisingly deep dive into The Beach Boys, who Sean just saw live in concert.Rico Dowdle's fantastic "Key & Peele"-inspired touchdown celebration: https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1omrklb/highlight_rico_dowdle_flagged_for_twopump/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/sports-r-dumb/donations

Ray Romano's new role in Netflix's 'Running Point' replacing Robert Townsend. Johnny shares skepticism about Romano's need for the gig given his 'Everybody Loves Raymond' success. He discusses comedian Stavos and his views on cultural and political commentary, noting the broken state of journalism and the need for more left-leaning cultural voices. The show also covers Marcello Hernandez's performance at the University of Maryland where he did that one thing he does well, Billy Gardell's return to stand-up after weight loss, and an introduction to comedian Everado Ramirez. Today we're going back to October 4, 1943, for one of the wildest and weirdest comedy programs ever to hit the airwaves, It Pays to Be Ignorant. Hosted by Tom Howard and featuring his panel of so-called “experts,” Harry McNaughton, Lulu McConnell, and George Shelton, the show turns the idea of a quiz show upside down, serving up ridiculous questions, nonsensical answers, and nonstop vaudeville-style banter. You'll also hear authentic 1940s flavor with wartime bond announcements and classic Peele's Beer ads, plus a musical interlude from the Korn Kobblers, a novelty band in the spirit of Spike Jones and His City Slickers. Day 21 – Episode 171: Us (2019)On Day 21 of The Conner & Smith Show's 31 Days of Halloween, Ryan and I dive into Jordan Peele's Us (2019) — a chilling and complex exploration of duality, privilege, and identity. This isn't just a home-invasion thriller; it's a layered allegory packed with symbolism, social commentary, and unforgettable performances. From the haunting use of “I Got 5 on It” to the eerie concept of the Tethered, Peele crafts a film that rewards multiple viewings and endless interpretation. It's both terrifying and thought-provoking — the kind of horror that lingers long after the credits roll.Support The Conner & Smith Show on Patreon here:

Greg Alba & Andrew Gordon dive into Us (2019), the critically acclaimed horror film written and directed by Jordan Peele (Get Out, Nope). A chilling exploration of duality, privilege, and hidden societal truths, Us follows Adelaide Wilson, played by Lupita Nyong'o (Black Panther, 12 Years a Slave), as she takes her family on a beach vacation only to be confronted by terrifying doppelgängers known as the “Tethered.” Alongside Nyong'o, the cast includes Winston Duke (Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War) as her husband Gabe, Shahadi Wright Joseph (The Lion King 2019, Hairspray Live!) as daughter Zora, and Evan Alex (Mani) as son Jason. The film also features standout performances from Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid's Tale, Mad Men) and Tim Heidecker (Tim & Eric Awesome Show), whose chilling turns highlight Peele's ability to blend suburban normalcy with pure terror. From the unforgettable opening scenes at the Santa Cruz boardwalk to the haunting “Hands Across America” imagery and the now-iconic reveal of Red (Nyong'o's Tethered double) with her eerie, rasping voice, Us has become one of the most analyzed and highly searched horror films of the past decade. In this full reaction & review, Greg and Andrew break down Peele's masterful use of symbolism, the shocking home invasion sequences, the underground world of the Tethered, and the legendary final twist that redefined how audiences see Adelaide's story. Whether it's the chilling “Good Vibrations” sequence, the scissor imagery, or Nyong'o's tour-de-force dual performance, Us remains a milestone in modern horror cinema. Jordan Peele's Get Out is a masterpiece both firmly planted in the rich tradition of horror and at the forefront of the growing genre of new Black horror. As auditors of the zeitgeist, we simply had to talk about the splash it made in 2017 and the conversation around its legacy since. In this episode we consider what made the narrative so impactful and we take a closer look at its reception by white audiences and critics who were particularly interested in claiming Peele's work as an example of "Black Excellence." Marcelle and Hannah parse the complexity of the term and pull on Cheryl Thompson's work to understand how "Black Excellence became the veil that shielded people from seeing how our systems and institutions are still rooted in White supremacist notions of ‘success'." To better understand the film itself, Marcelle then draws on “Horrifying Whiteness and Jordan Peele's Get Out" written by Julia Mollenthiel — an artcile that defines a theoretical lens to help us think about the growing genre of new Black horror: “horrifying whiteness.”Even if you're a weenie when it comes to horror, this is an episode you don't want to miss! We promise there are no jump scares!***To learn more about Material Girls, head to our Instagram at instagram.com/ohwitchplease! Or check out our website ohwitchplease.ca. Comedian and Nicole's fictional boyfriend Colton Dunn (Superstore, Grand Crew, Key and Peele) joins Nicole to talk about dating customs in Europe (and what we can learn from them), getting mad at your partner over what they did in your dream, and what surprised him most about becoming a dad. He reflects on why improv might never be cool- even if you're good at it, and shares behind-the-scenes stories from some of the most iconic Key & Peele sketches. Plus: diaper blowouts, fake babies at Disneyland, and getting called the "Black Seth Rogen."Watch this episode here: https://youtu.be/qYOWub9maa0Write Nicole a dirty message!
