Pamela Anderson starring films. Sarah Watt, Jeremy Downing and William Chen discuss The Last Showgirl (2024) and Barb Wire (1996). We begin by discussing Barb Wire and showering it with praise (excuse the pun). We celebrate the 90s-ness of the film. We talk about all the homages and connections we noticed in Barb Wire, including Casablanca (1942), Batman Forever (1995), Alien 3 (1992), Mad Max (1979), Romeo + Juliet (1996), Candyman (1992), Strange Days (1995), and Total Recall (1990). We praise the cast, including Xander Berkeley, Udo Kier and Temuera Morrison. We discuss the production values of Barb Wire, including the visual effects, action, cinematography and other production values. Our conversation explores the criticism of Barb Wire and how the tastes of audiences shifted over the 90s, making connections to Waterworld (1995), Cutthroat Island (1995), Hook (1991) and Charlie's Angels (2000). We move our discussion to The Last Showgirl, directed by Gia Coppola. We talk about the strength of the performances from Pamela Anderson, Brenda Song, Dave Bautista, Billie Lourd and Jamie Lee Curtis. We unpack the script, the tone, the direction and the ultimate aim of the film, with differing reactions from Sarah, William and Jeremy.

Every Wednesday, we share our thoughts on a newer entertainment property, and currently, that's Running Point. So far, the show has ups and downs (like a sports team does!), but there's a lot to like—especially the performances of Kate Hudson as the lead and Brenda Song as her best friend. Mentioned: Song and her partner, fellow child star Macaulay Culkin.Next Wednesday, we'll watch season 1, episode 3, "The Travis Bugg Affair." We'll be back tomorrow with our weekly roundup.

“Brother, could you lend me a hand?” (That's a question we'll answer in our White Lotus predictions update at the end of the episode! But first…) The breezy new Netflix comedy Running Point doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it's a breath of fresh air in a season of tense dramas and cheap thrillers (we're looking at you, The Night Agent). Guest Host Ian Brodsky has watched the whole season and is here to convince you to spend some time with fun characters who constantly get themselves into (and out of) hilarious jams. Of course, modern Netflix shows also have a reputation for being “background TV” but is that really a bad thing? Chris makes the case for the “tell don't show” school of screenwriting. But wait! There's more! Programming news from Peacock, Max, TNT, and TBS (the Turner nets! Remember them?). Plus the strange, sad saga of the new 24/7 Simpsons channel (allegedly) streaming on Disney+. ———
On TSMGO, Nikki and Tracey decide if this week they watched a slam dunk or if it was a foul- “Running Point” starring Kate Hudson, Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur and Justin Theroux.Available to stream on Netflix

Every Wednesday, we share our thoughts on a newer entertainment property, and we've now finished up with A Man on the Inside. While we enjoyed the actors' performances and the gentle humor, we do feel a bit duped by the promise that this was a mystery show; the case was closed within the first few minutes of the finale. Still, we'll probably be back for season 2. Mentioned: Monica's closet on Friends.Next Wednesday, we'll start a new watch: Running Point, on Netflix. It stars Kate Hudson as a woman who unexpectedly finds herself in charge of her family's pro basketball team. Former Disney kid Brenda Song appears, too, with some very non-Disney dialogue. We'll be back tomorrow with our weekly roundup.

Robert Winfree and Mark Radulich review movies currently on streaming services and in theaters: The Last Showgirl/Anora/Emilia Perez Movie Review! First up is The Last Showgirl (2024). Then we move on to Anora (2024). Finally we review Emilia Perez (2024).The Last Showgirl is a 2024 American drama film directed by Gia Coppola and written by Kate Gersten. It stars Pamela Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Billie Lourd, Dave Bautista, Brenda Song, and Kiernan Shipka. Its plot focuses on a middle-aged Las Vegas showgirl who is faced with an uncertain future after learning that the revue she has performed in for three decades is scheduled to close. The screenplay was adapted by Gersten from her own play, Body of Work, which she based on her visits to the Jubilee! show shortly before its closure in 2016.The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2024, and was released in the United States on January 10, 2025. It received generally positive reviews from critics, with Anderson's performance garnering critical praise. The film received two nominations at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for Anderson and Best Original Song for "Beautiful That Way". It also received two nominations at the 31st Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for Anderson and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for Curtis.Anora is a 2024 American comedy-drama film written, directed, and edited by Sean Baker. It follows the beleaguered marriage between Anora (Mikey Madison), a young sex worker, and Vanya Zakharov (Mark Eydelshteyn), the son of a Russian oligarch. The supporting cast includes Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian, Vache Tovmasyan, and Aleksei Serebryakov.Anora premiered on May 21, 2024, at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Palme d'Or and received critical acclaim. It was released theatrically on October 18 by Neon. It was named one of the top 10 films of 2024 by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute, and received five nominations at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, Best Actress for Madison and Best Director. It grossed $32.5 million worldwide on a $6 million budget, becoming Baker's highest-grossing film.Emilia Pérez is a 2024 Spanish-language musical comedy crime film written and directed by Jacques Audiard. A French production adapted from Audiard's opera libretto, which was loosely based on Boris Razon's 2018 novel Écoute, the film stars Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, Mark Ivanir, and Édgar Ramírez. The story follows a Mexican cartel leader (Gascón) who enlists a lawyer (Saldaña) to help facilitate their transition into a woman to escape their criminal life. Featuring original songs by Camille, a score by Clément Ducol, and choreography by Damien Jalet, the film was shot in Île-de-France from May to July 2023.Premiering at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Emilia Pérez received international acclaim for its lead performances, direction, themes, and musical score, winning the Jury Prize and Best Actress award for its female ensemble. However, the film polarized audiences, with criticism in Mexico for cultural misrepresentation, stereotypes, and poorly executed Spanish dialogue, while some LGBTQ groups objected to its portrayal of gender transition. Despite this, it made history at the Golden Globes, winning four awards, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and earning Karla Sofía Gascón a nomination as the first trans woman in the Best Actress category. Selected as France's submission for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards, it was also named one of the American Film Institute's top 10 films of 2024, cementing its status as a groundbreaking yet controversial cinematic work.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
