However, it was her theater training and performance abilities that made it possible for her to be cast in the show. In this rewind episode from 2021, we talk more about her time on the stage and what drives her most as an artist. In August 1986, the delightful British musical Me and My Girl made its grand entrance at the Marquis Theatre, starring the talented Robert Lindsay. A fusion of Pygmalion and Cinderella, the show revolves around Bill Snibson, a carefree Cockney man who unexpectedly discovers he is an Earl and must abandon his Lambeth girlfriend, Sally Smith, to claim his title and estate. Mark Robinson, a renowned theater historian, raves about the production, declaring it to be a source of pure joy, captivating audiences and critics alike. However, behind the scenes, the Marquis Theatre faced significant challenges that affected the run of the musical. The original plans for the theater did not align with city regulations, leading to constant revisions during construction, which resulted in sewage, plumbing, and heating issues onstage and backstage. In this episode you'll learn about the history and tremendous success of Me and My Girl both in London and New York, and you'll find out why the theater owners, eyeing an even more profitable replacement, decided to end the run of this award-winning show prematurely. So, I have had plenty of time to be annoyed by Christmas Music, I feel that I should share that with all of you. AND who better to do this with than the Broadway performer Gabrielle Ruiz. She has been known to the world as "Valencia" on the mock musical TV series "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend", she is the vulcan T'Lyn in Star Trek's "Lower Deck" and Spidey and His Amazing Friends” Having just released her new Christmas single "Twinkle Twinkle" we took to roasting Christmas Music, American Idol, Mariah Carey, and all that other annoying stuff you hear 12 minutes before midnight Thanksgiving and can't get over it till mid February. The longer they wait, the hotter they get. The hotter they get, the more irritated they become. In a funny and at times touching mini-musical, we go on a rollercoaster ride as these strangers go from frustration to sexual frustration, learning that sometimes you've gotta take the opportunities that come to you, no matter how awkward and irritating they might be.Starring: Gabrielle Ruiz, T.J. As we talked about in Part One, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is what put Gabrielle Ruiz on the map. However, it was her theater training and performance abilities that made it possible for her to be cast in the show. In this episode we talk more about her time on the stage and what drives her most as an artist. My good friend and amazing performer Gabrielle Ruiz joins me for Women's History Month to chat about her journey from ensemble member on Broadway to a principal role on primetime television. It's a path many of us actors wish to have, but hers has not been without personal and professional setbacks. And in part one of our conversation we touch on some of the highlights as well as how she's handled the low points. Gabrielle Ruiz & Pallavi Sastry are two women on a mission to spotlight platonic love in a socially distanced world. Last year, these two best friends started the popular podcast What Are Friends For to create a space to have meaningful and sometimes uncomfortable conversations about friendships. They've interviewed incredible guests such as Brittany Snow, Javier Munoz, Rachel Bloom and Kate Flannery and they're kicking off Season 3 continuing to ask the question, “What are friends for?" These ladies open up about their friendship journey, Galentine's Day, and they get juicy as we uncover some things they did NOT know about each other! We're taking a trip to West Covina this episode, as we talk about season 1 of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. So instead of having an in-person Group Hang, start up a Netflix Party and join us in discussing one of our favorite musical TV shows! For the most part spoiler-free, though we have a spoiler section starting from 29:17. -- All four seasons of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend are currently available on Netflix. You can watch all the music videos from the show (in their explicit versions) on Rachel Bloom's YouTube channel. And you can also see some of the possible inspirations and references in each musical number. Rachel Bloom's memoir, I Want to Be Where the Normal People Are, is out now and you can listen to an excerpt from the audiobook, where she sings from a script written about how she fell in love with musicals. Watch as Lin-Manuel Miranda joins Gabrielle Ruiz for a slightly modified version of "Women Gotta Stick Together". As mentioned by Cindy, see just how many people on the street would say yes to having sex with Paul Rudd. The song "Heavy Boobs" mentions just how many objects can fit under her boobs, and Rachel Bloom proves it to be true. For those that love Santino Fontana as much as we do, he can be seen in his upcoming "live" concert with Seth Rudetsky on February 21. -- Music featured in this episode: (Note that the albums linked here are the explicit versions, though clean versions exist as well.) Well, we somehow made it through 2020 and have arrived at Season Five of Why I’ll Never Make It. Covid may still be here and theaters are still shut down, but this podcast keeps rolling with great new guests and content coming your way. Here on the WINMI podcast you’ll learn how artists and creatives handle the setbacks and challenges that come with a career in the performing arts. Interviews and conversation are hosted by host Patrick Oliver Jones, a professional actor and singer for almost 30 years and a Backstage Expert who knows first hand the ups and downs we all face. Upcoming guests include Justin Guarini from American Idol, Geoffrey Owens from the Cosby Show, Andrienne Walker from The Lion King, and Gabrielle Ruiz from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. They’ll be joined by podcasters, producers, filmmakers, composers, and even a Jeopardy champion. One of the added perks this season is a way for you to ask these guests questions and have them included in those episodes. But the best add-on feature this season are all the members-only episodes that will be released each week in addition to the regular episodes on Wednesdays and Fridays. There are three levels of membership: the Makers, the Producers, and the Artists. And each of them come with bonus content like the Final Five, Audition Stories, or other special episodes. But the Artist membership is unique in that it also includes one-on-one coachings and consultations with me, giving you more ways to learn and grow as an artist with special advice and insights just for you. For more information on the podcast itself and everything mentioned here go to whyillnevermakeit.com. There you can also sign up for the monthly newsletter which will provide ongoing information and updates throughout the season on guests and bonus content. Season 5 has a lot in store and I can’t wait to get started!

She recalls her time on "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" and on Broadway in In the Heights, Evita, and If/Then, as well as going to Disneyland for the first time as an adult & loving the simplicity of the OG. and the religious experience that is seeing Mickey Mouse at the Disney Parks. Listen as Gabrielle discusses watching all of the Disney movies growing up in South Texas, knowing all of "The Little Mermaid" by heart (and being forbidden to watch "Fantasia"), and loving the Incredicoaster and Disney+. Hey, it’s Pallavi. We’re doing things a little different this week at WAFF. What you’re going to hear in this week’s episode is my personal story and experience with sexual assault. So as much as we appreciate and adore you our listeners for your continued support, please proceed with caution as the details we discuss may be triggering. I used a lot of tools to get me to this point of talking about it openly. Therapy, counseling, meditation, massage, acupuncture, exercise, you name it. But the most powerful tool….the thing that got me to this moment was talking about it with my friends and my husband. My chosen family. Which then gave me the courage to talk to my given family. And that gave me the courage to record this episode with my dear friends Gabrielle Ruiz and Poorna Jagannathan, who is our guestfriend this week. The biggest lesson I’ve learned in the 20 years that I’ve kept this secret, is that this is not my burden to bear. And what happened to me is not my fault. But I wasn’t going to get through it without asking for and seeking help, both professionally and communally. So if my story resonates with you, please know that you are not alone. It’s ok to need help. It’s more than ok and vital to seek the help of a mental health professional. And asking your friends and family for support and safety, is imperative. Crazy Ex-GirlFans: Your Internet Gabfest About Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Another week, another jam-packed episode. Just like the last two weeks, this episode was intense. 304? Intensely hilarious and over the top. 305? Intensely real and terrifying. 306? Intensely cathartic and inspirational. Shea joins Suzanne and Amber to bear witness to characters facing their fears, feeling angry/mad, and and finding ways to be so (co-dependently) maternal. Add a touching musical declaration and a 3-minute poop joke and you have Crazy Ex-Girlfriend episode 306, "Josh Is Irrelevant." Is Rebecca really going to face this new diagnosis head on? At this point, does Valencia common-law live in that apartment? Why can't NP3 reach out? Will Paula continue to top each brilliant hand gesture? We answer your questions, award our Giant Pretzels of the week and give our self-care recommendations for staying healthy and decidedly un-Bunch-like. SONGS: A Diagnosis (Rachel Bloom, Jack Dolgen and Adam Schlesinger, performed by Rachel Bloom) This Is A Movement (Rachel Bloom, Jack Dolgen and Adam Schlesinger, performed by Gabrielle Ruiz)

Last time we saw Rebecca Bunch she was standing on a cliff, swearing to bring destruction and ruin to Josh Chan. It's eight months later. Two weeks in West Covina time. We finally get to see her Chan Plan. And boy, is it a doody -- er, we mean doozie. Amber and Suzanne squee and squirm their way through the showstopping season 3 premiere of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, "Josh's Ex-Girlfriend Wants Revenge." And we have so many questions... How long will Rebecca keep up this femme fatale costume, both physically and emotionally? Is Valencia dead? Will Colin Crowley ever meet Josh Chan? How many gift baskets did NP3 send to Rebecca? How satisfying is it to see Darryl stand up for himself? Will Rebecca really send that gift to Josh? We answer your questions, award our Giant Pretzels of the week and give our self-care recommendations for staying healthy and decidedly un-Bunch-like. SONGS: Where's Rebecca Bunch? (Rachel Bloom, Jack Dolgen, Steven M. Gold and Adam Schlesinger, performed by the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend cast) Let's Generalize About Men (Rachel Bloom, Jack Dolgen, Steven M. Gold and Adam Schlesinger, performed by Rachel Bloom, Donna Lynne Champlin, Vella Lovell, and Gabrielle Ruiz)

Suzanne and Shea explore Buzzfeed quizzes, social media stalking and self-involved spouses in episode 207, "Who's The Cool Girl Josh Is Dating?" How has Valencia not done some super stalking by now? Where was Heather while Val and Becks were falling down a three-day rabbit hole? Who will Rebecca wind up watching Friday Night Lights with? Which Hamilton number did the boss's kids perform before the West Brovinas went on? We answer your questions, award our Giant Pretzels of the week and give our self-care recommendations for staying healthy and decidedly un-Bunch-like. Plus a special bonus self-care recommendation from your favorite ex-girlfriend turned girl grouper Valencia, a.k.a. Gabrielle Ruiz!
