Roll initiative for a new episode of The Fellowship of the Mic in the year 2026! We've taken a little hiatus for almost half of 2025, but Shandra is back with some special guest hosts in the new year.In Episode 75, my Filmstagram buddy, Campo, comes on to discuss the Dungeons & Dragons movies. We discuss the poorly reviewed movie from the year 2000 with Marlon Wayans, entitled Dungeons & Dragons, and then of course, the new one with Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez from 2023, D&D: Honor Among Thieves. We discuss a variety of things in this episode: how Jeremy Irons acted his heart out in the former film, how Michelle Rodriguez gained 15 pounds of muscle in the latter film, and why is there not a bad '90s movie, like, at all?

In this episode, we sit down with the purest of intentions and immediately derail into absolutely everything. We start by catching up on our week, which somehow includes community theater, a Christmas carol, and the realization that small-town productions carry higher emotional stakes than most blockbuster movies. From there, we naturally move into a very serious and completely authoritative discussion about orcs, goblins, and why fantasy creatures seem to have better branding than actual humans. Christmas movies also come under fire, especially the question no one wants to ask out loud: what exactly were the stakes in Home Alone, and why did an entire generation decide booby traps were a reasonable life skill? Somewhere between confessing our household maintenance failures and acknowledging projects that will never be finished, we introduce “the brick,” a digital detox tool designed to help us stop staring at our phones like they personally wronged us. That opens the door to a broader conversation about distractions, modern communication, and why texting feels emotionally hollow unless it’s padded with an irresponsible number of exclamation points. Naturally, this all slides into conspiracy territory. We explore the mysterious Tartarian civilization, debate the moon landing with just enough confidence to be alarming, and talk about how AI is quietly shaping what we believe, what we doubt, and what keeps showing up in everyone’s feed. Accents and cultural stereotypes make an appearance too, not because we planned it, but because they tend to sneak into conversations whether invited or not. By the end, we’ve questioned reality, Christmas, technology, history, and whether or not it's reasonable to use a single emoji as a response to every situation.

Special Episode — Recorded live at the Oppenheimer Research Conference 2025. The global conservation debate is loud — but often poorly informed about what people who live with wildlife actually think. In this revealing episode, researchers Dr. Darragh Hare (Oxford) and Dr. Lovemore Sibanda share evidence from multi-country surveys exploring views on militarised conservation, ranger powers, trophy hunting, wildlife crime penalties, and protected area governance. What they found is both nuanced and surprising: • Communities living near wildlife aren't always opposed to ranger enforcement • Support varies dramatically depending on governance models • Magadi (Kenya) stands out as a case where community scouts foster high acceptance • Assumptions from global media often misrepresent local realities • Sustainable conservation must factor in perspectives of those most affected A crucial episode for anyone designing policy, funding projects or shaping the future of African conservation.

pecial Episode — Recorded live at the Oppenheimer Research Conference 2025. How do we build conservation models that work for both people and nature? In this eye-opening conversation, Lessah Mandoloma (Oxford) and Katie Mackenzie (Jamma Conservation & Communities) unpack the principles of human-centred conservation—a framework that challenges siloed thinking, brings communities into decision-making, and addresses the real trade-offs that shape conservation outcomes. They explore: • Why conservation must start with honest conversations about power, rights, and benefits • How to break silos between health, climate, food systems and biodiversity • Why communities must be treated as partners, not passive beneficiaries • The importance of co-defining goals and returning research findings to communities A hopeful and practical roadmap for conservation that recognises humanity as part of nature—not outside of it.

Special Episode — Recorded live at the Oppenheimer Research Conference 2025. In South Africa's fight against rhino poaching, data—not emotion—drives progress. Conservation researchers Dr. Timothy Kuiper and Lucy Chimes share the results of their multi-reserve study on what actually reduces poaching. From aerial patrols, drones, and canine units to the controversial dehorning strategy, they discuss what works, what doesn't, and why context matters. The evidence shows dehorning can significantly reduce poaching—but only when combined with strong security, community partnerships, and demand-side solutions. A rigorous, evidence-based look at how science is shaping the next chapter of rhino conservation.

Special Episode — Recorded live at the Oppenheimer Research Conference 2025. What does it really take to make wildlife land use financially sustainable? Veterinarian and impact-investing specialist Dr. Susan De Witt explores the economics behind conservation, from private conservancies to community lands. She explains how revenue models (photographic tourism, hunting, live sales, and wildlife meat) interact with property rights, wildlife user rights, and access to finance. We unpack the successes of Namibia's community conservancies, lessons from South Africa's private sector, and what it will take to channel capital toward conservation that pays people fairly and protects ecosystems.

Special Episode 2 — Recorded live at the Oppenheimer Research Conference 2025. In Kenya's Amboseli ecosystem, people and wildlife have shared space for millennia. Conservation leader Dr. David Western explains how that coexistence works today: mirrored migrations between herds and wildlife, community scouts complementing state rangers, and “parks beyond parks” where tourism outside gates pays landowners to keep habitat open. We dig into restoring mobility to heal degraded grasslands, using early‑warning systems so pastoralists can off‑load or move livestock ahead of drought, and building local institutions that align incentives. It's a clear blueprint for scaling coexistence across Africa's rangelands, practical, proven, and community‑led.

#12389 Can Souls in Purgatory Know Their Fate? - Jimmy Akin

“Can souls in purgatory know their fate?” This episode explores the awareness of souls at their particular judgment and whether those in purgatory know they are not in hell. Additionally, we delve into the authenticity of the Greek New Testament, the implications of Catholic marriage law, and the evidence for Mary’s immaculate conception. Join The CA Live Club Newsletter: Click Here Invite our apologists to speak at your parish! Visit Catholicanswersspeakers.com Questions Covered: 05:19 – Is the Greek the New Testament is written in of poor style? Is the style it is written in a testament to its authenticity? 19:02 – At the point of my death, at my particular judgment, will my soul necessarily be aware of its ultimate fate as either Heaven or Hell bound? Do souls in purgatory know they are not in hell? What does the magisterium lend to address these questions? 31:18 – What “exactly” makes someone subject to Catholic marriage law? Catholics recognize baptisms in other ecclesial communities, and baptism makes you Catholic at least in some sense, but it doesn't subject you to Catholic marriage law. 41:37 – What other “evidence” is out there that Catholics may be able to point to in order to defend Mary's immaculate conception to non-Catholic Christians, since the dogma was declared by Pope Pius IX as opposed to being derived from Scripture or another source Protestants/Evangelicals revere. 48:46 – If certain demons are in fact the spirits of Nephilim/giants as most Second Temple Jews and some early Christians held, were they able to be saved? If they were indeed biological offspring from angels and humans, they would still be partly human (having original sin). All writings concerning them from that period treat them like Orcs, and never show them having the possibility of redemption. Thanks.
