Hello friends! Dolly Parton's new album, Dolly Parton & Family: Smoky Mountain DNA – Family, Faith & Fables is out today, and her multi-talented cousin, Richie Owens who produced the album, is my guest for episode 1445! The nearly 40-track album shines a light on the legacy of both sides of Dolly's family -her paternal Parton family and her mother's side, the Owens. Smoky Mountain DNA traces their origins from the United Kingdom in the 1600s to their home today in the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee with the music and culture of Appalachia. The album features songs performed by Dolly with various members of her immediate & extended family, spanning generations. Some tracks include the voices of beloved family members who have passed, alongside contemporary contributions from today's generation. Click HERE for more album information. Richie and I have a great conversation about growing up in such an amazingly talented family, working with Dolly, finding all of the family recordings and cleaning them up, producing The Georgia Satellites "Keep Your hands To Yourself" and much more. I had a great time getting to know Richie. I'm sure you will too. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or anywhere you pod. If you feel so inclined. What if the story of King Arthur didn't have magic? It might go a little bit like this. Richie Owens returns to discuss a pretty exhausting novelization of a pretty exhausting film. It's been about 100 episodes since we last did a Nickelodeon novelization. Just long enough for us to forget that they are irredeemable, meritless piles of waste. An utter dearth of ambition or vision, the novelization of Hey Arnold! The Movie insults the intelligence of the children it aims to please. The good news is that we have podcaster Richie Owens back on to discuss it, and he's fun! Some kid stole his copy of this book in the 90s and he has not forgiven or forgotten. We have so much fun! I can't believe we talked about this for almost two hours. There isn't a single thing in the book worth mentioning. I guess we just filled the time having fun times with fun friends. This week Rebecca is joined by the most prepared guest thus far, the hilarious Richie Owens (Please Make This)!! No shade to the other guests, we love you all and you are perfect. But like, Richie brought an outline and time stamps. He’s telling Rebecca all about his sophomore crush CARLY, and holy shit the stories!! There’s like, multiple scenes that could be the sole focus of an entire episode of this podcast, so we are very grateful and proud of this jam packed piece of content we are giving you. Rebecca is talking about ERIK, a middle school crush that was one of the first to force her to become the best friend instead of potential romantic figure. There’s so much to unpack and it’s ALL good. We got the whole rebranding your crush as a “sibling” when you feel rejected, playful ribbing as a form of immature sexual tension, bad movie watching body language, getting made fun of, a straight up RUMBLE for love, a beautiful slow dance, a preteen existential crisis, monumental moments at The Fair (be there, the fair!), why we’re so insecure, and so much more!
