She graduated with honors from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and spent twenty-five years as a designer. Jill gained recognition for bridging the worlds of men’s and women’s surfing as the founder and designer of global fashion brand ROXY. She is a skilled painter and was part of the Laguna Canyon Artist’s community and now practices in ceramics. She lives in Northern California with her husband and three children. She has written a memoir about her journey from Paris model to Saudi billionaire’s harem wife to multi-million dollar business entrepreneur called The Currency of Love. In the 1980s, Jill Dodd determined that her ticket out of an abusive home was to make it as a top model in Paris. Armed with only her desire for freedom and independence, she embarks on an epic journey that takes her to uncharted territory—the Parisian fashion industry with all its beautiful glamour and its ugly underbelly of sex, drugs, and excess. From there, Jill begins an eye-opening adventure that includes trips to Monte Carlo, sexual exploitation, and falling in love with one of the richest men in the world, agreeing to become one of his wives—until she finds the courage to walk away from it all and rebuild her dreams. Supermodel Jill Dodd had a secret, and she knew she wanted to share it. It took a few decades, but she recently brought her past to light by releasing her memoir, The Currency of Love: A Courageous Journey to Finding the Love Within. She joins me in this episode to discuss that secret, and to talk about the ramifications of staying silent for so long. In the episode, Jill shares that while she was living a supposedly glamorous life as a model in Paris, her personal life was complex, to say the least. She explains how fear, family and beliefs about the worth of her body influenced her decisions, and shares how she transitioned from a life spent fearing judgment to one of listening to her inner voice. And she tells me about her hopes for helping others find their inner voices, too.
This episode is as silly as it gets, but is still packed full of information. We cover a recent study revealing the best way to teach babies persistence. We find out the secret reason boys are better at certain kinds of science (spoiler: it involves pee). We talk about how artificial intelligence can be scary especially when men make robots with a rape feature. We laugh till it hurts about the allure of tiny things especially the itty bitty Tiny Kitchen series. And we debate whether Lady Gaga is a bitch. Plus, we talk to model, Jill Dodd, who decided to join a billionaire's harem. Today's show is brought to you by sustainnatural.com--feminine products you can feel good about putting in your body.
