Today's video is brought to you by a donation from Elliot. Thank you for your support. Elliot didn't have a specific question so I'm going to discuss something brought up briefly in yesterday's video. And that's the issue of palimony. Palimony is essentially alimony but without the marriage contract. It's usually paid out by a man to his common law spouse after they stop living together. Basically it's spousal support without the state sanctioned wedding ceremony. And it works against both gay and straight couples. Martina Navratilova was sued by her female partner Judy Nelson in 1991. And Even Bill Maher the crown prince of MGTOW talk show hosts was sued by an ex girlfriend in 2004 for palimony. Nancy "Coco" Johnson his ex tried to beat him in court but the case was dismissed. This just goes to show that cohabitation is dangerous for men going their own way. And it can be just as dangerous as signing a wedding contract. Usually palimony is spousal support paid by on party in a relationship to the other party that stayed home and put work into the household. More often then not in it is the woman that stays home and gives up her career to take care of children, although that practice has been changing in recent years. This whole idea of palimony started back in 1976 when Michelle Triola Marvin took her ex-boyfriend Lee Marvin to court. This was the first time in American history where unmarried people could sue one another for property division after a relationship came to an end. There's even a famous soundbite that goes as follows: "If a man wants to leave his toothbrush at my house, he better bloody well marry me," she said after the 1979 trial. The whole situation went to an appeals court and she never got her money but the legal precedent had been set for future palimony cases. Michelle Marvin was awarded about one hundred thousand dollars for rehabilitation by the lawyer. She wanted 1.8 million. Half the money her boyfriend made while he was working. The rehabilitation money was awarded to her so she could transition from being the wife of a motion picture star to becoming a separate independent person. She didn't even get the hundred grand and Michelle Triola Marvin She later went on to marry actor Dick Van Dyke. So that was the world's introduction to palimony and it took a high profile celebrity case to get the ball rolling and for other people to realize they too could fight for money from their common law spouses or even girlfriends or boyfriends. Having any long term relationship even if you just leave your toothbrush at your girlfriends house can get you into trouble if you are helping her out financially. The precedent has been set. Right now palimony means couples that have been co-habituating for a long period of time. Usually 2 years where I live because that's the length of time it takes for common law to kick in. Michelle Triola Marvin dies at 75; her legal fight with ex-lover Lee Marvin added 'palimony' to the languagehttp://www.latimes.com/local/obituari...Dumped? In honor of Mother's Day May, I am posting the second part of my two-part visit - this time with my Mother, Dr. Judy Nelson. It was a treat visiting with her and I do feel I learned from the best. Her positive outlook on life and being a life-long learner are just a couple of the qualities that I admire. She is passionate about family, staying active and living a healthy lifestyle - and a few years ago, decided to start a new hobby which she shares during our visit!

Even through their masks, you could sense the smiles across the faces of John and Judy Nelson, of Asheville, as they waited to get into Friday night's concert at Isis Music Hall. "I am ready to sit back, have some good food and listen to some good music," John Nelson said. "It's gonna be a great night." And it's the kind of night few in this region have been able to experience over the past 13 months--live music inside a club. But as North Carolina has relaxed some conditions for indoor gatherings, local venues have started booking indoor shows--with capacity restrictions and masking protocols in place.
