A World War II Era underground storage tank containing over 100 million gallons of jet fuel at the Red Hill Fuel Facility has been leaking into the aquifer that provides water to the people of Oahu. Until recently, the Navy denied there were leaks or that the water was unsafe despite multiple complaints of health problems and an oil sheen found in the tap water. Now, the Oahu Water Protectors have gained the Navy's attention and that of local and state elected officials. Wayne Tanaka of the Sierra Club of Hawaii speaks with Clearing the FOG about the fuel facility, what is at stake and how they are organizing to hold the US Navy accountable and shut the facility down. He also discusses the bigger picture of the environmental destruction caused by the US Military and its occupation of Hawai'i. For more information, visit PopularResistance.org.

It's never too late to choose a word that'll keep you focused on your goals, big and small!  After a late-night, eye-opening conversation with my brother about business decisions and what lofty goals to shoot for this year, I was reminded to test my plans against scripture.  I've learned that God's plan is always greater than mine. If I'm choosing to have a faith-based business and make choices to serve, I have to be intentional about what I “pursue.” Whether it's the first of the year or halfway through, I highly recommend choosing a word that inspires, motivates, and is grounded in scripture. Pray on it, read what the Bible says about it, and watch the blessings God has for you come to life! Highlights from this episode: {01:25} Clearing the clutter {08:28} Basing action in scripture {11:38} I was wrong (and that happens often!) {17:14} 2020 was all about patience {22:15} You are not alone {25:43} Enlightenment through prayer Mentioned on this episode: Ep 1: The 3 E's Philosophy  Ep 60: Ask For Help Ep 95: Resolutions vs Lifestyle Choices with Kelly Mobeck Ep 96: Paralysis by Analysis    Biblegateway.com Gotquestions.org   Scripture references: “Pursue” Jeremiah 29:11-13 Psalm 53:2 Romans 3:10-12 John 6:44   “Anxiety” Philippians 4:6 1 Peter 5:7 Psalm 94:19 Proverbs 12:25 Psalm 139:23   I hope this episode encourages you to pick a word for the year that'll keep you focused on what God has planned for you, and check it against scripture. It has turned into a global movement to build food sovereignty and organize systems outside the establishment. Each formula is natural, organic and vegan with no added fragrance or essential oils. Lune has a very interesting brand journey, suffering for years with acne, rosacea and eczema before embarking on a holistic regime to 'cure' her skin herself, without harsh medicines or stripping skincare ingredients. Happy New Year! A new year is a very appropriate time to consider cleaning out and clearing out the old to make room for the new–and that's the focus of this solo episode. I'm starting a new group to be a supportive place for moms of all ages and stages. You can find the link in our Resources section, so come join us with a free membership for a limited time.  Regarding New Year's Resolutions–or the lack thereof, I'm sharing what I've learned with the hope that my experiences might inspire you. This show and my attitude are prompted in part by the chaos of our family's “COVID Christmas of 2021.”   Show Highlights: How a new year has ingrained us to decide what we can change and do differently in a near frenzy of goal-setting How COVID has trained us that in making plans, we feel tenuous and uncertain about what's next Why I'm slowly stepping into January How our family become accustomed to clearing out the old to make room for the new Why I've been feeling “cluttered” in my mind and in my house Why I want the clarity of mind that comes when my physical space is clean and uncluttered How your physical space and mental space are connected and usually are both either clean or cluttered Why we need to get rid of some things to clear the emotional weight of having them around How clearing out can be an emotional recognition of the passage of time Why it's important to figure out how you got to the point of physical clutter How to start clearing your physical space: Begin with the room where you spend the most time or the one you tend to avoid. Identify what you want to change and why. How to know you have a “cluttered mind” How meditation, breath work, and journaling can help clear your mental space How to use questions to point you toward new goals (“What do I want more of? What do I want to let go of?”) Why the awareness of new goals as a regular routine is less overwhelming than putting every intention into a New Year's resolution My advice: “Start with clearing out and letting go. That's the only way to make room for more of the good stuff to come your way.”   Resources: Join the Awe Mama Group!  Connect with Cristie: Parenting Courses:  www.wonderincwellness.com    Email: critzking@wonderincwellness.com

"Six air changes per hour and HEPA grade filtration of indoor air for our children is an investment in their futures for long beyond when the COVID-19 pandemic fades from view. We know there is poor indoor air quality in multiple schools, from inadequate ventilation to air pollution to wildfire smoke. Kids learn better and have less absenteeism in healthy air. COVID-19 has just added fuel to that fire. Let this be a torch to light our way forward to healthy indoor air- starting right now. Most importantly, we need to make sure this opportunity is available to all children, particularly those who have often been left behind in this pandemic. Heartbreakingly, there are kids who never logged on last year or showed up to school, and may have families afraid to send them this year. There are federal funds available from the COVID-19 relief bills to ensure that we can provide this assistance even to already financially-distressed schools. Nothing will ever make our children completely safe, which is the persistent ache of being a parent. However, they deserve a school year in person if possible, and we as the adults in their lives, should do our best to make sure they get it. Don't buy your kids' teachers apples this year. Get them some HEPA filters." Erika Maria Moseson is a pulmonary and critical care physician. She shares her story and discusses her KevinMD article, "Clearing the air our kids share: a prescription for healthy schools." Reflect and earn 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CME for this episode.

Last year, I followed the 3D reading plan again, but did not listen to any of the podcasts. This year, I am going to listen to all of them again in a concentrated way, looking for things to improve. And already I have made improvements to some podcasts from episode 1 through 26. I always want to know if you find a mistake in something I have said in one of the recordings. Here is the item of confusion mentioned above that I wanted to share with you: YouVersion now has an audio play button at the bottom of the page for the Digging Deeper Daily reading plan. Because that reading plan is sponsored by the Daily Bible Reading Podcast, some people will think that the play button is giving them the recordings for the podcasts. It does NOT. If you hit the play button, you get a Siri/Alexa-like voice that reads the devotional content page, and after that page, the app will play whatever voice is bundled with the translation you have selected. If any of the people who have recently subscribed to the Digging Deeper Daily reading plan in the YouVersion app are confused like that, then they won't get the message about their mistake, since they will never see the extra podcast that I release like this one. However, when the voice pronounces the name of Job as job, I hope that they will figure out that they are not listening to a podcast. Actually following the 3D reading plan that way is not too bad. I'm just sorry that those who do this will miss out on some of the extra information that I can give in podcasts and also the prayers at the end of each podcast. For more information about my two full-Bible reading plans in the YouVersion app, please visit the Read This First pages linked at dailybiblereading.info, and look for the page that is about Listening to podcasts. I want to close this podcast with a selection of quick tips. For all of these items, you can find more complete information in the Read This First pages. If you have any questions about why I have recorded the NLT and the GNT for the DBRP, please see the Read This First pages. Those two are the most understandable English translations for those consuming Scripture in audio form. If you started listening to episode 1 podcast on January 1st, if you don't want to install a podcast app, you can simply go to dailybiblereading.info or dailygntbiblereading.info. Your daily episode will be near the top. This is also a great method if you want to use a computer instead of a smaller device. If you are somewhere in the middle of the year or are irregular in your listening, a good podcast app will make it easy to select the next episode without having to remember the day number or search for it. If my reading is too slow for you, a good podcast app will let you choose to speed up the audio. My favorite speed is 1.25. I don't recommend listening to Scripture at 1.5 speed if your aim is to understand it and think about it. When I was reading the 3D plan last year and not listening to the audio, I enjoyed using the MyBible app, which works on both Apple and Android devices. It has MANY options for customization. A simpler app that allows you to follow the 3D plan is called Quick Bibles. The Indonesian version of that program is the most popular Bible app in Indonesia. For listening to the 3D plan using smart speakers, please see the Read This First pages at dailybiblereading.info. Please, if you are listening to the DBRP on your commute to work, have things set up with your podcast app so you do not need to touch your phone. I want to repeat my appeal from the top of this episode: Please share with your friends about the 3D reading plan and the Daily Bible Reading Podcasts. Any day of the year is a good day to start listening to the Bible. The Holy Spirit will never tell you not to read the Bible. That message comes from someone else. Hey there! It seems like we are off to a good start this year in the Daily Bible Reading Podcast. I have already gotten one email indicating some confusion on the part of one listener, so I will explain about that in just a few moments. First I want to ask you to share the DBRP NOW with your friends. If you started listening to the podcasts just a few days ago, then perhaps it has occured to you, “Hey, this podcast would be perfect for” this or that friend. If so, please share with them right away. This first week of the yearly plan is a great time to start listening, and if your friend wants to, he/she can easily catch up with you. Then you can discuss the readings together. If you visit the Read This First pages linked in the header of dailybiblereading.info, you can find the Sharing page, which has images that you can use for sharing on social media posts. During the 2020 presidential campaigns, it was common for people who planned to vote for Joe Biden to say that they recognized he was a corporate-friendly candidate but that we just needed to elect him and then he could be pressured to act in the interests of the people. Well, unlike the marches after President Trump was elected, that mass pressure on Biden has not materialized. Now, a coalition of smaller climate justice groups (not the Big Greens) has just completed a weeklong occupation of land close to the President's home with two demands: that he declare a climate emergency and that he stop any new fossil fuel projects. Clearing the FOG speaks with one of the organizers, Karen Igou, about the action and next steps in the campaign to pressure Biden. Igou also speaks about actions we need to be taking outside of the political arena to address the climate crisis. For more information, visit PopularResistance.org.

David Perlmutter reveals the exciting and challenging science behind a major health risk that almost no one is talking about. Find out how uric acid is contributing to some of the biggest health risks in modern life, how the standard American diet is the perfect formula for creating dangerous levels of uric acid in your body, and how you can make changes to your diet that will help you lose weight, control your blood sugar, and live a healthier life.  [1:40] As of 2022, David will be 67 years young and he's planning on traveling from Vancouverto Alaska with his wife. The world has a lot of variability and uncertainty right now so it's hard to make detailed plans for the following year, but in some ways, that's good because it forces you to focus on the present. [5:00] David's new book is called Drop Acid. It specifically deals with uric acid and how we discovered it to be a central player in regulating metabolic health. It's not only that uric acid just becomes elevated, it actually plays a causal role in conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. [7:45] Metabolic issues are the number one cause of mortality on the planet. Countries like Japan have been aggressive in intervening with people with high levels of uric acid because of its dramatic associations with death from all causes. [8:25] Risk of death due to cardiovascular disease rises by 38%, stroke by 35%, and for every point of elevation in uric acid above 7 all cause mortality increases by 8%-13%. Having a high uric acid level is associated with a 80% risk of dementia, and a 55% risk of Alzheimer's. [10:00] Testing uric acid levels is fairly routine, but what it indicated wasn't meaningfully understood until recently. David began  looking at uric acid because of his interest in metabolic health and its association to Alzheimer's. The original paper linking uric acid to metabolic issues was published in 1894, and was buried until a researcher named Dr. Richard Johnson started doing studies on it. [12:15] David was listening to a podcast episode with Dr. Peter Attia doing an interview with Dr. Johnson and he was overwhelmed by the information. Every minute was a new pearl of information. David started communicating with Dr. Johnson, which became the basis of a new friendship. [14:30] The genetic mutations that cause humans to have higher uric acid than other mammals happened around 14 to 17 million years ago as an evolutionary survival mechanism. In times of food and water scarcity, uric acid allowed us to increase our blood sugar and retain water which were powerful advantages. [15:45] To this day, we have a component of our genes that want to be thrifty and pack away fat for the next period of food scarcity. Historically, the biggest threats to our survival was in finding food sources and being eaten by predators, and uric acid helped with both of those. [16:55] Certain cultures have evolved this gene and are more at risk of negative effects from it in our modern world. Fructose is the key ingredient to uric acid production in the body and the world is awash with it. The highest rates of obesity are in those genetic populations. [18:50] 50% of American adults will be obese by 2030, including children. 10% of kids between 12 and 18 are hypertensive. This is a direct manifestation of the foods we are eating, primarily fructose. Fructose is metabolized into uric acid and uric acid is doing the dirty work. [20:10] In the context of 99.9% of human habitation on this planet, this adaptation was very advantageous. It wasn't until recently, when our diets have changed so significantly, that it has become a liability. [21:15] Clearing uric acid is where the challenge is. We have lost the function to clear uric acid and with most foods we eat increasing uric acid levels, it can be difficult to keep levels low on the standard American diet. Fructose is the main culprit and average daily consumption increased by 1000% between 1970 and 1990. {24:30] Not all alcohol is associated with high levels of uric acid, but beer is one of the worst contributors. Targeting a specific enzyme called xanthine oxidase can help the body excrete uric acid. [27:20] In menopause, uric acid increases because estrogen plays a major role in the kidney's ability to excrete uric acid. Women who are on estrogen replacement therapy seem to have some protection from their uric acid rising. [28:30] One of the most important discoveries has to do with a master pathway known as AMPK. This pathway is turned on by things like exercise, berberine, and metformin, and when activated, it prevents the body's production of extra glucose and sugar. [31:45] The opposite of AMPK is triggered by two ways: fructose entering the body and uric acid in general. Uric acid is the key to the ability to hibernate, but if you don't plan on spending the four to six months sleeping, you should try to keep uric acid low to maintain your metabolic health. [33:55] For people who are working hard to lose weight and get healthy, reducing uric acid may be the vital tool they need. Picking up a uric acid monitor will give you a good idea where you are right now. We want to have a uric acid level below 5.5 mg/deciliter, with the average level in America being around 6.0. [37:40] The average individual in America, aged 60 or older, has full blown metabolic syndrome. 88% of adults in America have at least one component of metabolic syndrome. [38:30] The LUV diet can be incorporated into your keto, paleo, or vegan plan. The main focus is in getting the fructose out of your life. [39:15] Fruit has fructose but when you eat fruit you're getting that fructose in the context of fiber, bioflavonoids and Vitamin C. Fruit juice consumption is associated with an overall smaller brain and weaker memory. [41:00] Tart cherries were used in the past with women to help them control their gout, and now through the lens of modern research we know why. [41:30] We've known since 1970 that fructose is a threat to metabolic health, despite the $10 billion that was spent to keep us from that information. $500 million was spent to convince the public that corn related sugar was the “safer” sugar. Fortunately the truth is now coming out and we are waking up to the risks of uric acid. [42:40] David published an op-ed challenging the Biden administration on the USDA recommendation that 10% of our daily calorie consumption should come from sugar. This is a perfect example of science coming up against politics. [44:10] The nutritional requirement of sugar is zero. High fructose corn syrup is a toxin to fetal health. When it comes to certain organizations, it's like steering an aircraft carrier, especially when you look at which groups may be funding those organizations. [46:20] The only time we would need fructose in our bodies is when facing starvation, and even then our bodies can create fructose from glucose. [48:25] The quick fix is to eat less salt and your body will be less aggressive in triggering the pathway that leads to high uric acid levels. [49:00] One study looked at two groups of school-aged children, and in one group they placed a water fountain outside their classroom and encouraged them to drink. That group had a 30% reduction in the development of obesity. Fat is a powerful resource for making fresh water in your body, and when we're dehydrated (or our body thinks we're dehydrated) it wants to store fat to survive.     Mentioned in this Episode: Drop Acid by David Perlmutter drperlmutter.com youtube.com/thegirlfrienddoctor dranna.com/show     Always seek the advice of your own physician or qualified health professional before starting any treatment or plans. For the end of the year, Clearing the FOG speaks with economist Richard Wolff about the current state of United States capitalism. Wolff explains that the United States is experiencing the greatest crisis in its history - a severe economic crisis at the same time as a pandemic, as well as the climate crisis. This is unprecedented. Unlike the great depression in the last century, when the wealth divide shrank, inequality is worsening. On top of that, US empire is in decline. Wolff discusses the current state of inflation and supply chain disruption and the forces behind them. Instead of facing up to these realities and learning from the experiences of other countries, such as China, and even our own past, the ruling class is in denial and continues on the same path that created the current situation. Wolff talks about what we need to focus on going forward. For more information, visit PopularResistance.org.

Clearing the FOG speaks about this with Kay Tillow, a long time health care, civil rights and union activist. Tillow explains what these entities are, why they threaten the future of our entire healthcare system and how they block our ability to achieve a national, universal and publicly-financed healthcare system such as national improved Medicare for All. A podcast to answer all your questions about productivity, time management, self-development and goal planning. My name is Carl Pullein and I am your host for this show. One of the problems many people face with their task manager is the volume of tasks that appear on their today lists. And even if you are vigilant about when you add a date to a task, there often is still far too many tasks on the daily list.  So, this week, I want to address that and share with you a few ways you can eliminate rather than accumulate tasks.  Now before we get to the question, this will be the final episode for a couple weeks. Don't worry, we will be returning on the 10th January. And, if you don't want to miss out of all the productivity and time management content I produce each week, sign up for my weekly newsletter where every Friday you will receive all the content, PLUS a short essay with a tip on improving your overall productivity, time management and goal setting.  The link to sign up is in the show notes.  Okay, it's time to hand you over to the mystery podcast voice for this week's question.  This week's question comes from Gary. Gary asks, Hi Carl, I saw your recent video on how you have Todoist set up. I noticed you have very few tasks on your today list. Is that for real or was that just for show?  Hi Gary, thank you for your question and yes, that was for real.  Twice a year I show how I have evolved how I use Todoist, and in this videos I share my real Todoist account. Normally, I use a demo account.  So, how I achieve that is by focusing on elimination and being very very strict about what gets into my system.  Now, I should be careful here because I still collect a lot of stuff into my inbox. However, I am very strict on what goes from my inbox into my time sectors. This is where I practice the art of elimination. Let me explain. Firstly, I am obsessed with avoiding duplication. I hate it if there is a piece of work or a task in one app and I copy it over to my task manager. That act of copying it over to my task manager creates a duplicated task.  For example. Like most people a lot of my tasks come from email and in the past I would forward these to Todoist's inbox. That would easily generate fifteen to twenty tasks per day in my inbox. This meant I had the original email in my email system and a task for that email in my task manager which created duplication. Then when it came to processing my Todoist inbox, I had all the other tasks plus those emails to process. This meant those email tasks had now been processed twice and I still had done nothing about acting on them—which is crazy.  I realised, if I created a folder in my email called “Action This Day” and any email that required me to do something was put in there, I only needed a single task in Todoist that recurred every day to remind me to clear that folder. This meant I no longer needed to go from Todoist to email, back to Todoist and then email again. It was a lot of unnecessary extra steps just to reply to a single email.  Moving email within the email app itself is a lot easier and faster and I eliminate a complete step. It also means now all I need do is allocate a block of time later in the day to clear my action this day folder and all my email commitments are dealt with for another twenty-four hours.  Another area where accumulation and duplication appears is throwing all your project tasks into your task manager. A lot of what needs doing on a project is obvious. If you're preparing for a big important presentation, adding tasks such as: decide theme, get figures from accounts team, find images etc are superfluous. None of these really get the presentation done.  Opening up PowerPoint or Keynote and laying out the outline of your slides and and, once the file is complete, rehearsing it are the only really important tasks.  So for me, I have tasks such as: Continue working on presentation file and practice for tomorrows presentation.  My thoughts, ideas and sample slide layouts will be in a project note and that is also where the deadlines, milestones and instructions from the event organiser and anything else relevant to the project will be. You really don't need to duplicate all that in your task manager. Again, all you have done is wasted a lot of time moving things around but done nothing to actually move the project forward.  It's obvious what needs doing next once you open the document or the project note.  This is also why I am not a big fan of waiting for labels or tags. If you are waiting for something you have an incomplete task. For instance. If I create a task such as “Get last month's sales data from Jeff” and I send Jeff a message asking him for the info, all I have done is ask Jeff for the information. I still do not have the information, so the task is not complete.  As the task is not complete and Jeff tells me he will send it tomorrow, then I reschedule the task for tomorrow.  If I decide to buy a new video camera for Zoom or Teams calls and I order it from Amazon, the act of ordering the camera is not completing the task. The task is I want a new video camera. So I order it on Amazon and the confirmation email is added to a waiting for folder in my email. I then have a single task in Todoist that comes up every Saturday to remind me to check that waiting for folder. If you are buying three or four things on Amazon every week, adding three or four tasks to follow up on something seems superfluous and you can easily replace those with a single task reminding you to check you waiting for folder in email. I should say, though, if you're ordering things and you need a reminder about everything you've ordered, you're probably ordering far too many things.  Another area I look for is what I call natural triggers. Natural triggers are objects or events that will naturally remind you that something needs doing. Simple examples of this would be you know when to take out the trash because your trash bin is full. Likewise you know when your car needs refuelling because the fuel warning light will come on, or if you leave it long enough you run out of fuel—probably the best reminder to do something. I've also set up a shopping list in Apple reminders so I can use the convenience of my Home Pod Mini and tell Siri to add something to my shopping list while I am showering or cooking. I only need look at this list on days I go to the supermarket, which is usually Tuesday and Friday. I don't need to be reminded to go the supermarket. It is just something my wife and I do.  Another reason why I am able to keep my today list clean and tight is because I know what my core work is. I know what needs doing each day. For instance, today, I have a task telling me to record this podcast. I also have a task that tells me to edit my YouTube videos and write my coaching clients' feedback. These three tasks are my important tasks for the day and they are at the top of my list.  Anything else that comes up will not take priority over my core work unless it is a genuine emergency—and genuine emergencies are rare. I've only had one in the last five years.  Underneath these tasks are my routines for the day including clearing my email action this day folder and daily admin. Clearing my action this day folder takes around forty minutes and my daily admin around thirty minutes. These tasks are performed every day, and although I probably don't need them on a list for the day, it does act as a reminder on those days when it has been chaotic or I have been away from my office.  In total, if you include my routines, when I begin each day I will have between fifteen and twenty tasks for the day and the important tasks are at the top. If I see I have more than twenty tasks during my daily planning session, I will eliminate the less important ones. And again, I am very strict about this.  If you do not know what your core work is—the work you are paid to do, or in you run your own business, the work you do that generates your income, then everything will be a priority and you will feel compelled to add everything to your task manager.  I've seen things like iron shirts, take dog for a walk and take medicine on a task manager. Seriously? Ironing shirts should be a part of a home cleaning routine—it doesn't need to be in a task manager. And as a dog owner myself, you should never need reminding to take your dog out for a walk. That is a part of the commitment you take on when you decide to have a dog—and dogs have a way of telling you it's walkie time.  For medicines, use your phone's reminder system if you must. Setting a recurring alarm reminding to take your medication will work far most effectively than using a task manager.  Ultimately, if you are putting everything on your task manager it means you don't trust yourself and you need to start trusting yourself. Daily and weekly planning sessions are a key part to this because it ensures you do not miss anything. Skipping these prevents you from trusting that your system will work for you.  When you do a daily and weekly planning session you gain the confidence that you have everything under control. You know nothing has been missed and if it has it's unlikely to be important. Not doing these is like trying to push a wheelbarrow with a square wheel up a steep hill.  So there you go, Gary. The trick is to have the mindset of elimination not accumulation. Remove the unnecessary and what's left will naturally be the necessary. You can then focus all your attention on getting those done and not worry about everything else—you don't need to because they inevitably will not be important.  Have a wonderful week, a fantastic Christmas and I'll talk to you all again the New Year.  It just remains for me now to wish you all a very very productive week.

We all get caught up in the hustle, the busyness, the millions of things that need to get done. And we get pulled away from that important work that moves our business (and our lives) forward.  –Megan Flatt On this episode of the PlanSimple Podcast, I'm really excited to talk with Megan Flatt, founder of Focus Sessions, about getting things done 90 minutes at a time — and how this fits with the goals and planning we do in FLOW365. Focus Sessions are hosted virtual co-working sessions to get done the important things that move you towards your goals. In FLOW365, we used to do something similar called Get It Done sessions, because it's easy to have a plan, but get distracted. Focus Sessions take advantage of something called social effervescence. We perform better when others around us are doing a similar thing. Add in a flow to get you focused and some accountability, and Focus Sessions really help people get things done. We talk about:  The difference between physical co-working spaces and virtual co-working (and how you could use Focus Sessions in a co-working space) How to prepare to focus The power of declaring and sharing what you are going to do Choosing a bucket for your focus session—Deep Work, Planning & Visioning, or Clearing the Deck—and why each is important Creating a container to get things done — and scheduling when you will do things Finding what's working and not working in our focus and productivity so that we make adjustments BIO Megan Flatt is the CEO of Let's Collective, a business growth strategy firm devoted to making entrepreneurship easier. She is also the founder of Focus Sessions, a virtual coworking and accountability membership to get your most important work done. Let's Collective's mission is to help small businesses scale without burning out through strategic planning, revenue focused decisions and science backed accountability. Megan is obsessed with lattes, post-it notes and helping women make money. When not doing that, she's hanging with her husband and two kids, probably near the water, in the San Francisco Bay Area. You can catch up with Megan at http://letcollective.co/ (letcollective.co) or http://focus-sessions.com/ (focus-sessions.com). LINKS https://www.focus-sessions.com/ (https://www.focus-sessions.com/) https://plansimple.com/flow365 (https://plansimple.com/flow365) Doable Changes from this episode: CHECK OUT FLOW365. If you're intrigued by the idea of Focus Sessions, check out https://plansimple.com/flow365 (FLOW365). Focus Sessions are part of this year-long program because we know it's not enough to have a goal and a plan — you need time to do the work too. And when you can do it with other people and accountability, you'll be even more productive. SCHEDULE TIME TO DO DEEP WORK. If you aren't a FLOW365er or Focus Session member, you can still schedule time to do Deep Work. Block off 90 minutes on your calendar. Turn off notifications. Put up a do not disturb sign. Take some deep breaths to settle in. Then declare exactly what you are focusing on. Text it to a friend for some accountability. Set a timer and begin. CLEAR THE DECKS. When you're overwhelmed with a to-do list that's out of control or your desk is so chaotic you can't think, it's time to clear the deck. Clearing the deck clears mental space and energy for other work and may help replenish and refresh you to do your deep work and visioning. Set a timer and do a bunch of tasky items—filing, making appointments, powering through emails, declutter your desk.
