The United Nations Conference of Parties (COP) is holding its annual meeting in Brazil this year for the 30th time. Despite the creation of the Paris Climate Agreement nearly ten years ago, carbon emissions continue to rise, and the world is now experiencing the impacts of the 1.5° Celsius rise in temperature we sought to avoid. The time has come to shift our thinking and actions to what we can do locally to prepare for and protect our communities from the dangers of the climate crisis. Clearing the FOG speaks with Ed Jarvis, the leader of the Climate Majority Project's SAFER (Strategic Adaptation for Emergency Resilience) campaign. Jarvis discusses the campaign's efforts to bring greater awareness to the need for adaptation and shares what people are doing with a focus on climate justice. The Syrian government under Bashar Al-Assad was so successfully demonized by Western imperialist media and governments that many celebrated when Assad was overthrown last December, even though the new puppet government was led by the extremist Al Nusra Front, an Al Qaeda terrorist group. Now, Syria is balkanized and the government is implementing forced displacement and ethnic cleansing. Clearing the FOG speaks with Dan Kovalik, co-author with Jeremy Kuzmarov of "Syria: Anatomy of Regime Change," about the long history of US interference in Syria, dating back to the 1946 coup, how the recent coup appeared to happen so rapidly and the current situation in Syria, as well as the impact of these events on the region. We all know what all looks like — strict rules, clean eating, heavy discipline. And we definitely know what nothing looks like — throwing in the towel and saying, "Whatever, I'll start over Monday." But what about the middle? Why does it feel so hard to define… let alone stay in? In today's episode, I'm unpacking a powerful conversation I had with a client who said something so many of us feel: "Navigating the middle feels lost — like no direction. It feels like too much freedom and an impossible place to navigate." Especially this time of year — when schedules are packed, events are frequent, and temptations are everywhere — the middle can feel impossible. We're talking about: Why "the middle" feels so elusive What to do when you don't hold the line How to adjust your goals without abandoning them Why re-engagement matters more than perfection And how to stay in the game — even when you miss the mark This is not about following a perfect plan. It's about building the resilience to keep going when life gets loud.

In this episode of Quality Talks with Peggy O'Kane, Peggy welcomes Dr. Troyen Brennan, adjunct professor at the Harvard School of Public Health, former Chief Medical Officer at CVS Health and Aetna, and author of Wonderful and Broken. With decades of experience spanning academic medicine, hospital administration and retail health care, Troy brings candor and clarity to the challenges facing American health care and the promise of primary care reform.Troy's insights are both sobering and hopeful, pointing to a future where coordinated, data-driven primary care can finally fulfill its promise.Highlights:·Diagnosing a System Under Pressure: The limits of fee-for-service payment and why employer-sponsored insurance is reaching a breaking point.Building the Foundation for Better Care: The critical role of primary care in medicine's value-based future.Spotlighting Innovation Across the Map: Real-world examples of successful primary care transformation, including Catalyst Health in Texas and Southcentral Foundation in Alaska.Reimagining Accreditation for Modern Needs: Reflections on NCQA's Patient-Centered Medical Home and future redesigns.Clearing the Policy Bottleneck: Observations on policy inertia and how policymakers can accelerate change. This episode is a timely and thought-provoking update for healthcare executives, policymakers and clinicians committed to building a more sustainable, efficient health care system.Key Quote:The only way you can see a health care system that works in the future is if it's value based—that it's prospective payment and risk on the providers for the elaboration of care provided. If we believe what most people write about these things, we've got 25 to 30% waste as a result of the fee-for-service system. If we move to a value-based approach, that's money that's going to fund the system, that extra third that we can put back into real health care. So you need a value-based approach.-- Troy Brennan, MDTime Stamps:(3:12) Employment-Based Health Care is Unsustainable (7:29) The Value-Based Future and Primary Care(10:00) Payment Disparities and Policy Inertia(22:00) Technology and Data Analytics in Advanced Primary Care(28:18) Peggy's ReflectionLinks:Connect with Troyen Brennan Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Words That Move: David L. Deutsch aka "The Billion Dollar Copywriter", on the Art of a Lifetime of Persuasion

Send us a textWhat if your copy worked because you thought better, not because you wrote harder? That's the challenge David L. Deutsch lays down as we dive into the craft of response-driven writing—from Ogilvy roots to billion-dollar wins—and the mental models that make persuasion stick in the real world. We go beyond formulas and catchy lines to ask sharper questions: who is your reader, what does their day feel like, and what would actually move them now?David shares how he turns “boring” into compelling by reframing problems and dramatising the cost of inaction, a lesson echoed by the genius behind “Got Milk?”. We explore systems thinking for marketers—mapping loops, incentives, and constraints—so you fix the pattern, not just polish the prose. Music and copywriting meet as he explains pattern recognition, cadence, and structure; improvisation shows up in the yes-and approach that meets readers where they are and guides them forward without friction. And we talk about working with vistas in mind: motion, cities, and the right constraints that free your best ideas.Along the way, you'll hear why “consistently not stupid” beats “very intelligent,” how to write as if you're persuading across a table, and what it takes to make the obvious inevitable. We also touch on legacy—how capturing stories helps those who listen and those who tell—and the long view that puts craft, clarity, and human connection ahead of noise. If you want copy that gets response, these are the habits and mindsets to adopt.Enjoy the conversation, then try this: before you write your next line, map your reader's day, name their stakes, and decide the one action that would truly help. If this episode resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend who writes or sells, and leave a review to tell us the one idea you'll use today.Join David at https://www.speakingofwriting.com for free trainings and coaching. Click here to send me a quick message :) So many of us are walking around with the beliefs we created in childhood running the show. And almost always, we are unconscious of it. Largely because we have other parts of ourselves protecting us from feeling or becoming aware of the hurt parts of ourselves. These "parts" protect us, or try to, and in a way cause us to act and react to everything from social interactions to work to relationships to sexual connections to how-we-treat-our-own-selves.So, what can we do to heal some of these deep core wounds (whether they came from obvious trauma or from less-visible places in our lives)? And how can we use embodied practices to help us do that? This is what Kristen Stake and I talk about on this week's episode. Not only is she a licensed professional counselor trained deeply in Internal Family Systems (aka "parts work"). She is also a mover, and somatic practices have been a huge part of her life and healing path. So she has developed her own style of bridging the world of "parts work" and somatic practices like authentic movement into an embodied form of "Moving With Our Parts."If you're new to IFS, or seasoned in the work, this episode is a great foundation on what it is, how it can help you become a better version of yourself, and how to bring some of those "parts" into your body and move with them to help them be accepted, expressed, and maybe even let their hold go a little bit, too.I hope this conversation offers you some glimpses into what's possible for you. Resources:Today's shownotes: Get links to Kristen's offerings + the books she mentionedGrab the free Womb Connection & Clearing guided practiceSign up for the waitlist for Natural Contraception the Herbal Way program!Episode 121: Healing heartbreak with IFS with Sara Avant StoverIf you loved this episode, share it with a friend, or take a screenshot and share on social media and tag me @herbalwombwisdom.  And if you love this podcast, leave a rating & write a review! If your closets are organized but your brain feels like the junk drawer, this episode is for you. October is here — which means pumpkins, costumes, candy corn, and… mental clutter. Before the holiday rush even begins, most of us are already overwhelmed by the to-dos swirling in our heads. From buying candy for trick-or-treaters to planning holiday travel, our minds can feel just as cluttered as our countertops. The American Psychological Association reports that 70% of adults feel stressed about the holidays before they even begin. Add in the fact that we make 35,000 decisions a day, and it's no wonder we're exhausted before dinner. But here's the good news: you don't have to carry it all. Clearing mental clutter is possible, and today I'm walking you through how to do it — Fresh Start Method® style. In this episode, you'll learn: Why “decision fatigue” is real and how to recognize it. The surprising number of pounds of candy corn made every year (hint: it's in the millions!). Relatable client stories about late-night worry spirals and brain overload. What other voices — from Gretchen Rubin to The Minimalists to Martha Stewart — say about order, clutter, and peace of mind. My 5-step Fresh Start approach to clearing mental clutter before the holidays: brain dump, sort and prioritize, create non-negotiables, let go of perfection, and build small systems that stick. Powerful quotes and questions to help you stop chasing “perfect” and start choosing peace. By the end of this episode, you'll not only have permission to let go of what doesn't serve you — you'll also have practical steps to clear your head and actually enjoy the season ahead. ✨ Don't forget: The October Challenge Calendar is still available!
