No stories or worldbuilding this week. Quentin is moving and Daniel is working on some double top secret side projects this week, so we needed a week. Instead of a regular episode, enjoy this spoiler-free-ish review of SOLO. However, there are some spoilers for the Return of the Jedi and the Prequels. We are joined by Mike Sandberg and Ian R. Buck. This is episode was also aired on the Nexus TV and Cinemike. For the full episode, check out their shows. If movies about space aren’t your thing then I highly recommend checking out the Fourth Journal or Headline Heroes. We’ll be back next week with another exciting episode of Double Issue. We are working on a couple of stories about “tabula rasa” and at some point a part two for our Citadel City talk. Till then, keep on... being super! If machines become more capable than humans in every way, the world will certainly be in for a wild ride. What will this mean for our society, our morality, and our understanding of ourselves? Ian R Buck is joined by Ian Decker and Mike Sandberg to delve deep into this mind-blowing topic.
Time for our annual Star Wars review! Ian R Buck and first-time guest Mike Sandberg sit down to talk about The Last Jedi, a very unusual Star Wars film in many ways.
Mike Sandberg and Gregg Richardson of Family Search join Family Gathering host Grant Nielsen to talk about family history for beginners. Gregg's uncle gave up family history when he lost his eyesight. After that, everything was turned over to Gregg, who was surprised to find included in the research was his grandfather's resume. It turns out his grandfather, whom he had never met, lived in Europe for several years and spoke multiple languages. Mike had a good experience with family history thanks to an assignment from his daughter. His daughter had a school assignment that sent him researching his uncle who fought in Vietnam. He learned about a traumatic experience he had that left him with PTSD. That changed Mike's point of view of veterans. Family Gathering connects people and families across many generations. Grant Nielsen, host of Family Gathering interviews Mike Sandberg and Gregg Richardson of Family Search who have done genealogy work in West Africa. Villages in Africa don't have many paper records, and much of the family history is oral. Since many families have to travel great distances to get whatever paper records there may be, making sure oral histories are available is a goal Mike and Gregg think they can accomplish. The concept of family is universal, and governments are coming to organizations like Family Search to help them preserve and restore many of the destroyed records.
