On Friday's show: This coming Sunday will mark five years since the murder of George Floyd sparked demonstrations, calls for a racial reckoning in the United States, and continued demands for police reform. We reflect on the life of the Houston native and what his death brought about -- and what activists believe still needs to be done. Also this hour: The International Space Station is already facing a $1 billion budget shortfall, and the Trump administration plans to cut even more. We learn how NASA is handling the situation and how it could affect both astronauts and those working on the ground here in Houston with Andrea Leinfelder, who covers space for the Houston Chronicle. Then, from a building in the Third Ward and the George Floyd/Black Lives Matter mural on it being demolished the week of the fifth anniversary of Floyd's murder, to a Houston man suing Whataburger because a store allegedly left onions on his hamburger, we break down The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of the week. And we preview a concert tonight celebrating the 10th anniversary of the local the string orchestra Kinetic. The program includes a premiere work by a Sugar Land native.

We welcome Hal (@shestructured on Letterboxd) and Craig (@gentlemanbaby on Letterboxd) from the Red Rose Film Club podcast to cover American Psycho (2000), the Wall Street horror/comedy starring Christian Bale as Patrick "Jason" Bateman. This movie's got a lot going on, folks. And we get to it all—we determine who has the best business card, we explain why you wouldn't want Christian Bale as your co-worker at Whataburger, we try to figure out what's going on with Justin Theroux's hair, and we marvel at Patrick Bateman's chainsaw math. Also, is American Psycho Jared Leto's villain origin story?   But more than anything, we're trying to identify what exactly Patrick Bateman represents. Is he the embodiment of toxic masculinity? A victim of America's addiction to competition and consumption above all else? A misunderstood baby boy? An iconic slasher villain? What if our answer was…. Yes?   Next week:  We are the nation's top fun-havers, so we're taking the week off for Spring Break. One particular coach working Friday in the NCAA Tournament is probably the NCAA's best defense in the lawsuit. Auburn coach Bruce Pearl faced a similar situation and re-emerged and got a new job even before his NCAA penalties expired. One coach was good at Tennessee and one coach wasn't. That's the difference. Half the Elite Eight is set, and we've got four incredible games on Friday. On Thursday, Duke survived a scare from Arizona with an all-timer from freshman Cooper Flagg. The Blue Devils move on to face Alabama, which set an NCAA Tournament record for three-pointers made. Florida wore out Maryland, and the top-seeded Gators will face Texas Tech, which stormed back from a huge deficit to force overtime and then beat Arkansas in the extra period. Friday, we've got Kentucky-Tennessee, Ole Miss-Michigan State, Michigan-Auburn and Purdue-Houston. We're also on Kevin Willard watch. Will he take the Villanova job or stay at Maryland? Meanwhile, college football news keeps coming. Kent State coach Kenni Burns was placed on administrative leave. Next, Andy and Ari answer your questions, including… How good is the Stanford job? Is it possible the College Football Playoff quarterfinals could move to campus? Watch us LIVE, M-F, on YouTube here: https://youtube.com/live/OK_9FpK_CSs Hosts: Andy Staples, Ari WassermanProducer: River Bailey

The chalk of the early rounds created some huge matchups. Can Arizona's Caleb Love shock Duke the way he did as a North Carolina player in the Final Four in 2022, or are the Blue Devils just going to roll into the Elite Eight? Is Michigan-Auburn the sneaky most exciting game of the round? Kentucky has beaten Tennessee twice as an underdog. Can the Wildcats do it a third time, or will the Volunteers get a chance to keep chasing that elusive first Final Four appearance? Plus, Stanford general manager Andrew Luck fired football coach Troy Taylor on Tuesday. Also, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy thinks Bedlam should be revived as a spring game. Watch us LIVE on YouTube, M-F, at 9:30 am et! https://youtube.com/live/MviowMNKd_0 Hosts: Andy Staples, Ari WassermanProducer: River Bailey

Maryland's Derik Queen called bank and called game to beat Colorado State and move on to the Sweet 16. But that wasn't the only buzzer-beater Sunday that mattered. UConn nailed a shot as the buzzer sounded that didn't help the Huskies at all, but it crushed Ari. The Terrapins advancing also makes the situation involving coach Kevin Willard more interesting. Villanova wants a coach, and Willard might be a candidate. Maryland wants to keep Willard, and the price keeps going up as he keeps winning. This leads to a discussion of football coaches who exercised similar leverage when they did their deals. State job. Wade's players didn't seem to mind, either. Is this how coaches should handle job questions in the new era? John Calipari's Arkansas team beat Bill Self's Kansas to set up a round two matchup against Rick Pitino and St. John's. Meanwhile, Ari spent Thursday in Las Vegas sweating free throws and late-game drama. Sutton Water Reclamation Facility, addressing rising landfill costs and limited disposal options. The incinerators, decommissioned in 2015 due to stricter EPA standards, will now meet updated guidelines, reducing sludge volume by 90%. Public concerns about emissions remain, but officials emphasize stricter monitoring and compliance. Alternatives like land application face scrutiny over potential health risks, while landfill costs have surged. Construction is set to begin in 2027, with public input sessions planned to address community concerns. STORY 2: Cobb Inmate Accused of Identity Theft Stephanie Leah Cherry, 22, of Austell, is accused of using a victim's Sheriff’s Office ID to access their Inmate Detention Account at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, transferring funds to her own account between Dec. 16-25, 2024. She allegedly used the stolen funds for entertainment purchases. Cherry faces charges of identity theft and computer theft and is being held on an $8,000 bond. The nine-week program equips parents with skills to rebuild family dynamics post-release. This largest graduating class began with 35 participants, focusing on topics like family roles, cultural influences, and parenting strategies. Graduate Faith Williams highlighted how the course helped her maintain relationships with her children while incarcerated. The initiative also offers GED programs, anger management, and more, aiming to reduce recidivism. Chief Deputy Rhonda Anderson encouraged graduates to stay present in their children’s lives. STORY 5: Georgia Gas Prices Jump Georgia's average gas price has risen to $3.00 per gallon, with Cobb County slightly higher at $3.09, up 15 cents in two weeks, according to AAA. Seasonal refinery maintenance, a switch to summer fuel blends, and a California refinery outage are contributing to the increase. State prices are 6 cents higher than a month ago but 17 cents lower than last year. The most expensive metro areas include Atlanta ($3.06), while the cheapest are in Dalton ($2.91). AAA advises drivers to save by using fuel programs, paying with cash, and maintaining efficient driving habits. Break: STORY 6: Whataburger Withdraws Application for Atlanta Road Location Whataburger has withdrawn its request for a sixth Cobb County location on Atlanta Road near I-285. The fast food chain planned to combine two properties for the site but paused to reassess traffic impacts and community-requested design changes. Local residents, including those from West Village Smyrna, opposed the proposal, citing concerns over traffic, safety, noise, and property values. They suggested changes like reorienting the building and limiting hours. While residents are pleased with the withdrawal, Whataburger may reapply in the future. The chain currently operates three Cobb locations, with two more approved but not yet built. STORY 7: Cobb Approves Lost Mountain Road Subdivision The Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved a 27-home subdivision on Lost Mountain Road in a 4-0 vote. Traton Homes will develop the 40.5-acre lot, with 18 of the homes on the southern half requiring rezoning. Homes will range from 2,000 to 3,589 square feet, offering more affordable and varied housing options. To address neighbors' concerns, Traton agreed to a 50-foot buffer, a vinyl-coated chain link fence, and stormwater management measures. Commissioner Keli Gambrill praised the compromise, noting it was a better fit than previous proposals for the area.
