Hazelnut acreage has really boomed in the past decade in Oregon's Willamette Valley.
Back in December - before sheltering in place and when corona referred to a type of crown or the glow around the sun - my wife and I spent a week up and down Oregon's Willamette Valley. It was cool, with light rain and occasional heavy fog...and we loved it. Prior to our trip I set up several interviews, with Lynn, the dynamic former owner of Penner-Ash; Bryan and Laura Laing, the fun-loving owners of Hazelfern Cellars; and Luisa, from one of the oldest Oregon family wineries, Ponzi Vineyards. Each guest expressed their love for the region and the wine they craft. As always, their stories are entertaining and distinctly different from one another. Join me as I travel beyond California On The Wine Road.

(2017) Do a little dance, drink a little wine, and if your heart races too much...at least there's a doctor in the house at Cubanisimo Vineyards in Oregon's Willamette Valley. We'll meet the good doctor (and his very lovely nurse) on this unforgettable visit. Have you ever tried wine that's Kosher? What's different about it, you ask? All this, plus Master of Wine Bob Betz of Betz Family Winery stops by to answer our wine questions, Justin Stiefel of Heritage Distilling Company mixes-up our "Drink of the Week." and Chef Kathy Casey joins us with a fun food pairing featuring wine, craft beer, and spirits!
Permaculture is a design discipline that strives to work with nature, pointing us to the solution that's found in the problem. Permaculture practitioner, teacher and advocate Tao Orion has drawn on her work in Oregon's Willamette Valley to research and write "Beyond the WAR on Invasive Species" (2015, Chelsea Green). She presents long-view ecological perspectives on the kinds of eco-problems exemplified by invasive species - and how we humans can change our thinking, our processes, our questions into accord with Earth's systems. From edible landscapes to herbicide use, this conversation challenges easy-answer thinking. This show follows up on resources shared (March 1) by St. Louis leaders of the Honeysuckle Sweep for Healthy Habit, an effort to tackle one our region's most problematic invasive species Earthworms values good questions - with thanks to you for listening and considering!
