The business is called ASPIRE HUB, and are based in Brisbane, but now also expanded to Perth.  Minh asks both of them about their SIL business, and their housing model, given the changes of the NDIS over the last few years. Cheryl talks about how different it is in running your own business, when compared to working for someone else, being an employee. Chris talks about the compliance within the business, to ensure the values and operation aligns with the NDIS, aswell as managing their staff and retaining good staff, to deliver the best service for participants. Aspire Hub specialises in SIL homes and ILO, not in home supports that many other care businesses to operate in. She explains the differences between the different care business models in the market place. Minh also asks Cheryl  how different it is operating in Perth on the west coast, as compared to Brisbane on the east coast. It is interesting to hear what Cheryl says about the challenge it is to work with people in Perth, who are all new to the NDIS.The vision for Aspire Hub was born out of co-founders Chris and Cherryl's dream to build a team with a genuine focus on empowering people to live the life they choose. As well-recognised voices in the industry, advocating for people with disabilities and mental health conditions, both Chris and Cherryl are passionate about creating opportunities for people of all abilities.https://www.aspirehub.com.au/----------GOALS:It is our goal to see Participants with high-needs disabilities being appropriately housed in accommodation that is right for them. Michelle Dowd, author of the new boo "Forager---Field Notes for Surviving a Family Cult: a Memoir" joins the podcast to talk about her amazing journey.  About Michelle:  As a child, Michelle Dowd grew up on a mountain in the Angeles National Forest. She was born into an ultra-religious cult—or the Field as they called it—started in the 1930s by her grandfather, a mercurial, domineering, and charismatic man who convinced generations of young male followers that he would live 500 years and ascend to the heavens when doomsday came. Comfort and care are sins, Michelle is told. As a result, she was forced to learn the skills necessary to battle hunger, thirst, and cold; she learned to trust animals more than humans; and most importantly, she learned how to survive in the natural world. At the Field, a young Michelle lives a life of abuse, poverty, and isolation, as she obeys her family's rigorous religious and patriarchal rules—which are so extreme that Michelle is convinced her mother would sacrifice her, like Abraham and Isaac, if instructed by God. She often wears the same clothes for months at a time; she is often ill and always hungry for both love and food. She is taught not to trust Outsiders, and especially not Quitters, nor her own body and its warnings. But as Michelle gets older, she realizes she has the strength to break free. Focus on what will sustain, not satiate you, she tells herself. Use everything. Waste nothing. Get to know the intricacies of the land, like the intricacies of your body. And so she does. Using stories of individual edible plants and their uses to anchor each chapter, Forager is both a searing coming-of-age story and a meditation on the ways in which understanding nature can lead to freedom, even joy.

Kimberly Kaye joins the Life is a Ride podcast to discuss overcoming a deadly illness that she was diagnosed with over 20 years ago, and how she used that experience to find  a way to help others struggling with their health.  Kimberly and Chris also discuss the state of the American health care system, Covid and obesity, and how Americans can find ways to improve their health and well-being. Kimberly is a certified functional medicine health coach, functional nutritionist, and trainer who works primarily with people who have complex, multi-system inflammatory conditions. She fell into this work by accident while struggling to get correctly diagnosed and treated for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a genetic connective tissue disorder which effects every organ system in the body. After 20 years of misdiagnoses and medical gaslighting, Kimberly finally received the correct diagnosis in 2018, and decided to become one of the few EDS and Dysautonomia-literate practitioners in the American health care system. When she's not working with patients or ruining BBQs by telling friends “you shouldn't eat that,” Kimberly is a professional musician, patient advocate, and community organizer based out of New Orleans. She believes strongly that a combination of affordable patient education and direct mutual aid to lower income communities is the only way out of the current American health care crisis. More information on Kimberly can be found at https://www.patreon.com/chronicallychill This podcast was produced by AJ Joseph.  The song "Life is a Ride" was written by Paul Sanchez, Alex McMurray and Chris Joseph.

Cancer is NOT a Death Sentence! Is this an unpopular opinion? YesBut is there truth to this? Absolutely!Take it from Chris Joseph who was diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer.Prognosis for this type of cancer is not at all appealing, with 70% of patients (diagnosed with it) not lasting 1 year, and 90% don't go past 5 years. However, these ridiculous numbers aren't even the worst things you can hear. What's truly terrifying about cancer are the signs and symptoms that come with it. Besides the physical issues like hair loss, stomach problems, fatigue, etc., are the mental battles you have to fight against suicidal thoughts, depression and anxiety, among many others.(Imagine having to write a goodbye letter to your kids like Chris did)Chris never thought he was the toughest of our kind. In fact, it came to a point wherein he was just DONE!Done with the mental torture. Done with chemotherapy. Done with all that's painful and causing him to suffer. He thought there had to be a better option. And so, he quit chemotherapy. He didn't have a Plan B. He quit because of how much he hated Plan A.Unbeknownst to him at the time, quitting traditional treatment and deciding to take charge of his health was the best thing he could've done for himself! This opened up a whole other world of opportunities! With a combination of western medicine, non-western medicine, meditation, yoga, supplements, workout, among other viable treatment options, Chris is now enjoying a renewed life!Today, Chris is making it his mission to share a message of hope through various media – besides hosting 4 podcasts, Chris has also written 2 books, one of which is Life is a Ride: My Unconventional Journey of Cancer Recovery. In sharing his story, Chris brings to light the importance of taking charge of your health!Doctors may know more about oncology, but in the grander scheme of things, doctors and treatments are simply tools! In the end, we know our bodies best and it's up to us to take the driver seat and steer our health towards full recovery!Ready to learn more about Chris Joseph and his unconventional journey to recovery? In this episode of The Moss Report, Dr. Ralph Moss and co-host Rachael Moss interview Chris Joseph about his journey with cancer. In October 2016, at age 59, Chris Joseph learned he had third-stage pancreatic cancer. In the midst of the panic and tremendous fear that immediately ensued, he followed the doctor's orders without hesitation and underwent chemotherapy. Months of chemotherapy poisoned his body and nearly destroyed his spirit. With no immediate plan in mind, he fired his oncologist and embarked on an alternative path of recovery, including both natural and Western medicine immunotherapy--one that, against all odds, opened his eyes and healed him, both physically and spiritually.  Over the last 33 years, Chris Joseph has started and managed three environmental consulting businesses, launched two fan-funded music record companies, and founded a non-profit charitable foundation. He has also dabbled in philanthropy, songwriting, magazine writing, and he is currently studying for his real estate license. He also adds 'author' to his list of accomplishments with his book, Life is a Ride, a tale of a man that turned a potential death sentence into a life embrace. A native of Los Angeles, Chris has lived in Southern California all of his life. He has two teenage boys, a wonderful girlfriend, and enjoys traveling, hiking, sports, music, and connecting with other people.  His book “Life is a Ride” is available on Amazon.

Sat atop a Welsh mountain in 2007 in a moment of depression and despair, Chris Joseph had the first in a series of instances of clarity that would eventually lead him to coaching. On the brink of a meltdown, he knew his Ph.D. in Computational Mechanics was no longer serving him. Buddhism, yoga and mediation became the elixir for him and soon he found he couldn't sleep with excitement at the discoveries he was making. His life changed when he trained to become a mindfulness teacher with Breathworks, and Chris went on to complete his Ph.D. and launch his first coaching practice. But it wasn't a success and in the end he gave it up. His extraordinary journey includes a multitude of highs and lows, from making £10,000 a month in passive income to losing it all to a fraudulent trader. Now he's back coaching and headed for a seven-figure year with his highly successful practice. In this episode, we talk about:Where his practice went wrong the first time round. Why the inner work is so important - understanding that you can only take people as far as you can go yourself. Why a true insight always comes packaged with an action - an ‘outsight' or an ‘outer action'.How to invite an individual to coaching - how to make it feel like a gift to the individual and not a request for yourself.Alongside the practical we get into some big topics: death, impermanence, the importance of play and the effects of all these on our lives. And it is a total pleasure to be in a space with Chris' beautiful open-heartedness.For more information about Chris, visit www.christopherjoseph.co.uk, find him on LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/drchrisjoseph/ or on Facebook: www.facebook.com/chrisjoseph.uk/ For information about Robbie's wider work and writing, visit www.robbieswalecoaching.com.Music by My Good Man William listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/4KmeQUcTbeE31uFynHQLQgTo support the Coach's Journey, visit www.patreon.com/thecoachsjourney and to join the Coach's Journey Community visit www.thecoachsjourney.com/communityThings and people we mentioned (that you might be interested in):~8: Rich Waterman: https://www.richwaterman.com/ ~10: The Happiness Hypothesis by Jonathan Haidt: https://www.happinesshypothesis.com/~12: Michael Neill: https://www.michaelneill.org/~12: Dick Bettinger: http://3principlesmentoring.com/index.html ~12: Sydney Banks: https://sydbanks.com/~14: Breathworks: https://www.breathworks-mindfulness.org.uk/~20: Unleash the Power Within with Tony Robbins: https://www.tonyrobbins.com/events/unleash-the-power-within/ ~25: Unleash the Power Within with Tony Robbins: https://www.tonyrobbins.com/events/unleash-the-power-within/~26: The Coaching Academy: https://www.the-coaching-academy.com~26: Richard Bandler: https://richardbandler.com~26: John LaValle: https://www.nlplifetraining.com/trainers/john-lavalle~26: The Prosperous Coach by Steve Chandler and Rich Litvin: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Prosperous-Coach-Increase-Income-Clients/dp/1600250300 ~26: Breathworks: https://www.breathworks-mindfulness.org.uk/~27: Simon Coulson: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Prosperous-Coach-Increase-Income-Clients/dp/1600250300~27: Peter Thompson: https://peterthomson.com/ ~27: Michael Neill: https://www.michaelneill.org/ ~27: Project Kairos with Rich Litvin: https://richlitvin.com/kairos/~30: Steve Hardison video: https://youtu.be/0Tine-9dz-Y~32: Rich Waterman: https://www.richwaterman.com/ ~33: Three Principles: https://threeprinciplesfoundation.org/ ~33: Eckhart Tolle: https://eckharttolle.com/ ~33: Bryon Katie: https://thework.com/ ~33: The Coaching Academy: https://www.the-coaching-academy.com~33: Tony Robbins: https://www.tonyrobbins.com/ ~37: Crazy Good by Steve Chandler: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1600250343/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_JMAKFbP0PYJ7E ~43: The War of Art by Steven Pressfield and Shawn Coyne: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1936891026/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_xlBKFbG7XW11B~50: Loom: https://www.loom.com~1.11: Cardiff University: https://www.cardiff.ac.uk ~1.29: Wealth Warrior by Steve Chandler: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1600250408/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_EFCKFbY9VGH7M~1.29: Time Warrior by Steve Chandler: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1600250378/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_kICKFbB90WCJN~1.29: The Hero's Journey by Joseph Campbell: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1608681890/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_8RCKFbEEPT36Y~1.31: The Meaning Revolution by Fred Kofman : https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1524760730/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_BsSKFbKHQ773N~1.45: Chris's contact details: email address: chris@christopherjoseph.co.uk, LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drchrisjoseph/, Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/chrisjoseph.uk/~1.50: Steve Hardison: https://theultimatecoach.com/

We brought on the creators of the book Anxious Little Pishy, Brittany Joseph (author) and Chris Joseph (illustrator). The book has been showing our children that anxiety is something that we all feel, and that it's okay to talk about it. It is the perfect way to introduce the subject and open the discussion around anxiety, without worrying if broaching the subject will provoke more worry! Brittany Joseph writes this tale from a sincere and authentic point of view. As a child and to this very day, our author has battled with anxiety. She understands how isolated a child with anxiety can feel. Brittany has offered this book to the world in hopes that her anecdote will help children and adults understand the struggle of children with mental health issues.Brittany and Chris (a brother sister duo) have been on NBC to speak about their book, and multiple schools, museums, podcasts and libraries. The book has become a staple in any classroom it has found, as well as a bedtime favorite. For siblings of anxious children, Little Pishy can help us build compassion for our our brothers, sisters, and friends with anxiety. Join us, and watch, as Little Pishy shows us all how to swim away from anxiety. The book is incredible and so is the conversation we had with Brittany and Chris. Kyle's review of the book after reading it to his kids: "They loved it. I felt like the book was about me haha. I love how it very similarly explains what anxiety is but in a direct way. My oldest, who is 6, said "Is that what I have when I worry about mommy not coming home?" (At the time, my wife was at the hospital most nights due to her mother's poor health) For her to get even the slightest grasp on that at 6 years old was great. Then we talked about different things you can do when you feel like that." Lonliness. It’s the hidden cost to being a leader, being unique, playing at my next level, and honestly just plain old being myself. It’s the payment to enter higher realms of impact, growth, and contribution that I have been hesitant to pay. It’s a fact of choosing to belong to yourself first. If you play it all out, the best way to stand out is to be yourself because there’s only one of you out there. There’s only 1 in 7+ BILLION PEOPLE who is you. Of course it’s going to be lonely! I honestly didn’t get that until 5 mins before sharing this here. The path to being yourself, to experience true and wholesome freedom and security, to make your highest impact, and to influence and lead change in your world is inherently lonely. And the story I tell myself is that "being lonely means being unloved." The cold hard truth of it is that at the level of allowing myself to be me in the world, I’m actually finding that: a) I love myself more (and I think I’m legit awesome) b) I love and have the capacity to love others more and c) I am loved by others more. I’m going to unpack c) more because that’s the external result I internally craved and the external ceiling I keep bumping into. I am loved by others "more". 1) "More" through the lens of "Scale": There absolute value of people who love me continues to grow daily. And it directly ties/ feeds back into my capacity for love. The greater my capacity for love, the more love comes my way. 2) "More" through the lens of "Depth": This is one of the thing I’ve been fighting for in my life recently. Where Scaled Love speaks to being "well-known", Deep Love speaks to being "know - well". The people who choose to love me, choose to do so for the true and unapologetic me as I currently am and as I am becoming. There’s no more "code-switching". I’m not burdened by having to diminish myself in order to make others feel safe. I am not drained by having to be multiple things to multiple people - and then keeping each part of my life compartmentalized for sake of being exposed (this one came fastest for me to be). I don’t have to be a "chameleon" and change who I am to match your world. Instead, I welcome you to my world. I welcome you as you are and as you are becoming. I welcome you to be courageous and thrive beyond safety. I welcome you to be in integrity with yourself. Whole, complete, and unapologetic. Everyday I create a world where we can be unique together. Where we can be authentic together. Where we can be lonely together. Where we can simply BE together. My name is Nemo Ashong. Most people see me as personable, friendly, joyous, and so much more. And what they don’t see is that on the inside I’m lonely. What I now know is that feeling alone, being alone, and feeling lonely isn’t a good or a bad thing. It comes down to the stories I tell myself. And I’m choosing to listen to stories that bring us all together - as seperate, unique, and legit awesome people who can be as one, not in spite of but because of what makes us different. Here’s to being more you everyday because you are the difference. Game on! (Special thanks to Hayden Lee, Luisa Molano, and Chris Joseph for helping me embrace something that I thought was holding me back rather than helping me forward)

As we start things off with the Outliers, Pioneers, and Mavericks conversations, I feel it's important to make sure I'm showing the real journey, not just the polished version that makes it all look easy and flawless. So let's start with what I don't want you to know about me... I recorded this conversation in December of 2017... and didn't publish it for another year and a half.  There are a lot of reasons for that including energy fatigue of keeping up a podcast, not feeling aligned with where the podcast was going, and probably the most honest of them all, embarrassment because I had let so much time go by since we had initially recorded the session. I feel it's important to document my journey as an Outlier, Pioneer, and Maverick myself. And one of the things I've learned is that if you choose to be the first, the only, or one of a kind, there are times when it can feel scary to put your ambitions, dreams, and visions into the world. If there's anything I feel the simple act of releasing this conversation 1.5 years later shows, is that it's never too late to create the future you want to see in the present you are in.
