Richard Lummis and I are back and today for our final podcast of 2019 and the second decade of the 21stCentury. Today, we provide a wrap up of 2019 podcasts, giving some of our favorites and new issues we learned about or perhaps reacquainted ourselves with from history. We then consider some of the topics we will explore in 2020.  Highlights of this podcast include: Leadership series based upon the book by Retired General Stanley McCrystal. How economic bubbles from the 18th and 19th century inform leadership, business and crowd psychology today. Leadership lessons from our fan favorite Oscar Best Pictures series. Presidential series from the post-Civil War Presidents up to TR, proving once again there are no new issues in American politics. Our tribute to author Phillip Kerr and his final Bernie Gunther novel Metropolis. A series on General MacArthur and President Truman, exploring their diverse leadership styles. The significance of the title to this podcast. What are we looking forward to talking about in 2020? ***This is a MOSTLY Spoiler Free Episode*** We refer to some light spoilers for Phantom Thread, The Shape of Water, & The Beguiled regarding some Act II stuff, but otherwise, we are spoiler free. This is the 1st annual Mike Mike & Oscars Awards Show, where we choose the RIGHTFUL nominees AND winners to all the categories from the Academy Awards! State of the Pod: Preview of Coming Attractions & Review of What’s On Demand - 2:15 The Other 16 Categories: From Best Visual Effects to Animated Feature - 8:12 Best Adapted Screenplay (The 8th of The Big 7) - 23:01 The Big 7 Awards That Aren’t Best Picture (each category includes a Top 5 Ranking): Best Original Screenplay - 25:23 Best Supporting Actress - 29:47 Best Supporting Actor - 34:21 Best Lead Actor - 37:52 Best Lead Actress - 41:31 Best Director - 46:51 Our Top 10 Films of 2017 including the MMO Best Pictures: Also Mike - 55:08 Mike No. 1 - 1:04:10 Final Thoughts - 1:12:23 The wait is over. No more hints, no more games, we can finally tell you how we would have done things. You can go back and listen to our MMOs precursor, the Year in Review Part I where we have some fun with The Class Superlatives AKA our “Best Of’s” from Best Original Netflix Movie to Best Ensemble to Best Hair / Wig of 2017. After Mike No. 1 gets you into the award show mood as only he could, we begin with a State of the Pod as he previews our exciting future while Also Mike reminds you of what we’ve done. Do please go back and listen to what you missed. The OSPs are reviews of each of the nominated films from the Big 7 categories, & we then review each of those in their own episodes before we cover the actual Oscar broadcast in two separate pods. No.1 also breaks some news on our future plans including a March Madness basketball movie themed episode coming soon. Our MMO awards begin with our winners for the other 16 categories including Best Visual Effects, Film Editing, Costume & Production Design, Makeup & Hairstyling, Cinematography, Sound Mixing & Editing, Original Song & Score, the 3 short film categories, Best Documentary, and Animated Feature. It’s a brisk rundown, but if you listen carefully, you can get a sense of where this voting body is gonna lean for the bigger awards. We add the category of Best Adapted Screenplay to our normal Bigs and mention our favorites as well as a familiar winner. Then we dive deep into each of the normal biggies, the four acting, best original screenplay and director. We include many honorable mentions before we nominate our top 5s and pick a winner. Sometimes the Academy got em right, other names will shock and amaze. Then it’s time to count down our best films of the year. In this loaded 2017, we mention nearly 50 films between us as honorable mentions are too good to ignore. Also Mike starts it off, and No 1 has the hammer. We remain true to our tastes and year long favorites, and there are less Oscar Best Pictures than you’d think. You don’t want to miss it. Get to know your aeclectic hosts with this episode. Feel free to chat us up on social media. We’re on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, and Gmail. Do get ready for mikemikeandoscar.com as it’s under construction, and stay tuned for more podcasts. Our 2018 Year in Preview is coming soon as well as our March Madness Special. The news of the world can suck. Life without the Oscars in the near future can suck. But the movies don’t stop, and we’re here for all of you, reviewing and previewing year round. When reality sucks, watch movies with us. Thanks for listening. We’re Mike, Mike, & Oscar!
