Es sieht aus wie ein Unfall, doch leider ist dieser Film ist von langer Hand geplant: Die Fortsetzung von „Der Prinz aus Zamunda“ ist sehr typisch für aktuelle Filmproduktionen, vor allem für jene, die auf den #Streaming-Plattformen präsentiert werden. Hemmungslos wird dabei die Filmgeschichte nach funktionierenden Marken ausgeschlachtet, die mit einem halbwegs neuen Storytelling versehen werden sollen. Altstars dürfen noch einmal antreten und sich selbst zitieren. John Landis‘ Komödie von 1988 ist ein Kultfilm, entstanden zu einer Zeit, als #EddieMurphy auf dem Höhepunkt seiner Karriere angelangt war. Nicht nur Nostalgiker können an diesem harmlosen Blödelfilm bis heute ihre Freude haben, auch wenn Humor sehr schnell altert, wird an mancher Szene ebenso ein jüngeres Publikum Gefallen finden. Und es wäre gar nicht so schwierig, diese Geschichte in einem Sequel gekonnt weiter zu spinnen, wenn man sich denn nur die geringste Mühe geben würde und etwas Talent mitbrächte. John Landis war ein Könner, Craig Brewer, der Regisseur von #Coming2America, ist es nicht. Keine Pointe gelingt, die Geschichte ist derart an den Haaren herbeigezogen, dass man schon nach Minuten das Interesse am weiteren Verlauf der Handlung völlig verliert – überdies dient sich der Film der schlimmsten YouTube- und TikTok-Ästhetik an.
