Greg Kettner got started in comedy on a dare. After watching hockey with his buddies one night, on their way home they passed a pub that was holding an open mic night. After a couple drinks, he got the courage to stand up and tell some stories. The rush was so big, he returned the next week, and kept up the weekly routine until he got a call to become a comedy club emcee. From there, Greg hit the comedy circuit. For almost a decade, he toured North America, opening for no less the likes of Robin Williams, Jim Gaffigan, Norm MacDonald, and Gilbert Gottfried. But it was a lonely and financially unsatisfying place."The downside was I wasn't getting paid that much so it took me about six years to figure out that I like money more than I like standup," he said. "But now I've been able to combine the two."About four years ago, Greg founded WorkHappy, a coaching program that teaches corporate leaders how to communicate, remember where they want to go, how they want to get there, and how to blow off steam rather than "bottling it up and just blowing a gasket.""We spend two-thirds of our day, a lot of us working, and when we're not happy, it's a grind," he said.Working in suicide prevention and mental wellness, Greg also founded Men in the Middle, a fellowship program in his hometown of Walla Walla, Washington. The program enables bonding experiences and teaches men how to care for themselves and talk openly about mental health."If we take care of each other, take care of ourselves, the world's a much better place," he said.I met Greg through a mutual friend and I'm so glad I did. He made me laugh throughout this interview, and I'm sure you will too listening to his stories and natural timing. I'm sure I will be following his mantra to "laugh every day. Put it on your calendar."Greg also runs the Facebook group, The Humor Lab, which he launched during the pandemic lockdown. Nonpolitical and PG-13-rated, the group now has more than 38,000 members. I encourage you to look it up when you need a laugh. If you'd like to reach Greg, you can do so on LinkedIn or on his website, GregKettner.com. I hope you get a bellyfull of laughs from this week's podcast.

Gilbert Gottfried is the most wonderful tornado you can ever imagine. He joins Matt this week to talk about his role as Iago the parrot in Disney's Aladdin. Gilbert tells us about the audition process, having to re-record dialogue for the animated series that was deemed too dirty by a viewer, and the remarkable story of how a family reached their autistic son through a puppet of the parrot. Plus, Matt's Superego pals Mark McConville and Jeremy Carter talk about playing parts in Aladdin in a totally different context during I Was Par-rot Too. Hosted on Acast. FIlmlosopher Spencer and Intern Amy torture Filmlosopher Eddie with a revisit to the franchise that almost made him rage quit the show, as they recap Amy's first time viewing of The Asylum's cult classic franchise, Sharknado. The Shadowy Sharktopuses find themselves once again enthralled in a conversation about the franchise that redefined the B-Movie genre, and Eddie's view of indie filmmaking. Does the franchise ultimately fall in the harmless fun category of film? Or is this film -and its cult-classic status- only aiding in the downfall of new and better ideas being found in Hollywood? EPISODE 72 SYNOPSIS The Gratuitous Ghost of Gilbert Gottfried Returns Folks, it's a “smoke a cigarette afterwards” cool-as-a-cucumber kind of episode. Co-host Arik opens the show with something nice to say about his current state of residence, South Carolina: “Well, at least it's not the Pacific Garbage Patch.” Then again, he could be stuck in Burnt Korn, Alabama, with our special guest, Carla. Things in Alabama are so bad, all the color has been sucked out. (Check it out on YouTube!) Usually sound engineer Seaman Drains—I mean, Pauly from Bali—gets the hate sloppy seconds, but he kicks off the show with a tale of his recent trip to Florida to visit his ill father. The family decided to have a movie night—EXCEPT no one considered the fact that ailing pops might not be in the mood, with all his children and grandchildren gathered about, to watch a graphic sex scene. “Haven't we reached the point, where if you need to watch two or more people getting it on, just go surf some porn? It's time to eliminate ‘squeal like a pig' ass spanking from Hollywood. I mean, this scene was in a period piece!” Not that we're prudes, but what's the NC-17 rating for, if not for a period piece film that shows an anal rape scene over and over from every character's point of view? Meanwhile, Arik discusses the difference between bestiaries and bestiality, while Pauly spends a half hour downloading a photo Carla wants to share. Boy oh boy, this is one photo worth the wait: “DO NOT CLICK BUTTONS WITH GENITALIA.” Tune in to find out more! (Cameras are watching.) Today's episode has two comedians, including the late Gilbert Gottfried, but our listeners remember it for another reason: Jay-Bee. A Middle Tennessee Business PodcastWhen I coach people who are getting into voiceover, one of the most common things I hear is, “I was always told I have a good voice.” To which I answer, “I would bet Gilbert Gottfried never heard that. But he made it work quite well for himself.”It's not about the voice…it's about the ham. Troy Holden spent most of his professional life as a Blue Collar dude working in the automotive manufacturing industry. But he was always a ham. Not only was his voice quite decent, but more importantly, he knew how to use it and he has the business acumen that fast-tracked his success. From Troy:Blue collar has always meant "real people" to me... and that is all that I am. I've worked in manufacturing most of my life until VO opened a door for me. Wanting to deliver the "American Male Voice" with the Blue Collar spin made sense.”Episode highlights:15:01 -How he got into impersonating people.18:51 - Commercial auditions that are non-human.22:00 - The power of physicality in performance.32:01 - The microphone is your friend and your enemy.52:57 - The sales game is a sales game.Follow Troy:www.troyholdenvoices.com*****SUBSCRIBE/RATE/FOLLOW What's Your Problem? What would you do when you were done with dentistry? We are excited to have a guest this week that has decided to take an inspirational path following his retirement from dentistry, Dr. Jeffrey Gurian. Also there is no one in the comedy world he does not know....we are convinced of this now. Join us for an heartwarming, open and often quite funny tell of a dentist who found is way into the exciting and entertaining world of comedy. About Dr. Gurian:People often refer to Jeffrey Gurian as a “Renaissance Man”, because he's involved in so many things. He's a doctor, lecturer, and motivational speaker, but he's also a comedy writer, performer, director, author, producer, and radio personality, and not always in that order. Jeffrey is a former Cosmetic Dentist and former Clinical Professor at New York University in the Oral Medicine/Oro-Facial Pain Department, and a Board member of The Association for Spirituality and Psychotherapy since 1999, where he has lectured on his technique known as "STAR" Therapy™, an acronym for Spiritual, Transformational, Affirmative, Resonance Therapy" as a way to treat the physical symptoms of stress-related illness especially Migraine-type headaches, often cause by clenching and grinding the teeth. (Bruxism) Jeffrey is currently involved in creating two new television shows and is in pre-production with two films he wrote. He is also an Amazon best-selling author with eight books, and the host of Comedy Matters TV, an internet channel with over 500 video interviews he's done as a red-carpet host with A-list comedians like Jimmy Fallon, Chelsea Handler, Chris Rock, Bob Saget, Amy Schumer, Jim Carrey, and so many more, and well over 2.5 million views. He also created The Happiness Show with the help of Sirius XM radio. He's worked with and befriended many big stars and comedy legends, ranging from Rodney Dangerfield, Joan Rivers, George Wallace, Phil Hartman, Richard Belzer, Gilbert Gottfried, and Andrew “Dice” Clay, among many others to relative new stars like Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Tracy Morgan and Bill Burr. Jeffrey has performed stand-up comedy at most of the big clubs in NY and L.A. and was featured several times on Comedy Central's hit Kroll Show with Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Amy Poehler, Seth Rogen, Laura Dern and Katy Perry. He's been profiled in the NY Times, the Hampton's premiere magazine Dan's Papers, and is on the cover of Sutton Place Magazine's January 2023 issue, and and has been featured as a guest on NBC, CBS, ABC, WPIX, Newsmax, CNN and more. He's produced sold-out charity comedy shows starring Kevin Hart and Susie Essman, and according to Paul Provenza, and Nick Kroll is known by everyone in comedy. A documentary film about Jeffrey premiered in July of 2020, and you can see it online. https://vimeo.com/414818932A best-selling author with eight books, the first five are on comedy, and the last three are on Happiness and how to think positively to change your life. The success of those books has allowed him to become a motivational speaker on Happiness and mindset.

This week we are discussing a sequel that Jamie has dubbed "the grossest sequel ever", "Problem Child 2". This movie had us talking about how insane Junior is, the number of deaths that would have resulted from his and Trixie's antics, the odd choice of having Amy Yasbeck play a different character than she did in the original (but it worked), and so much. These are the sequels I love, the time period, the great cast of actors, and Gilbert Gottfried. Watch the unedited review at sequelsonly.com/ProblemChild2 The next sequel discussed "Leprechaun Returns", which is a direct sequel to the original and I was lucky enough to talk to the Leprechaun himself, Actor Linden Porco. Linden talked about starting to act at a young age, working with the Wayans Brothers on Little Man, landing the role of The Leprechaun, Nightmare Alley, and more. Hello and welcome to the This Is Not The Halloween Episode But It's Well Into Production And Is Coming Soon. My apologies for the later delivery. Last month I got married and then on our honeymoon we both – finally – caught Covid, so, again, we're all getting back on our feet, so that's that. We have a fantastic episode for you. Comedian Matt Braunger, one of our faves, is here to talk about, among many things, his new special, Doug, available now. We also visit with the great Frank Santopadre. A good friend, a fellow geek and the longtime co-host of Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast. It's a wide-ranging interview. Very funny and also very touching and I'm very grateful to Frank for sitting down with us. True Tales From Weirdsville has the story of MKUltra, the CIA's experiments with LSD in the 1950's. It could also be known as Operation: What Could Go Wrong?
