Oh my God this man is my hero. I'm still stunned by his extraordinary depth, insights, wisdom, generosity and tearful smiling love for his wife. What a privilege and blessing to dive deep into what it truly takes to go beyond defensiveness and create conversations that deepen love when consistent criticism can often lead to divorce. And this still pinching myself conversation, which I would be happy to have for an entire weekend long, we also discussed... -The healing power of 'sharing and caring' sessions to shift people from surviving to thriving and support them in creating a 'conflict free zone' relationship -How when you know you're going to have a 'sharing and caring' conversation, how anger, violence, yelling and sarcasm diminish because you know you're going to be heard -How it's biologically unnatural to receive criticism without defensiveness yet openness and connection can be learned and more importantly practiced to turn almost any relationship around -How underneath anger is vulnerability and how overtime through practice responding with compassion and focusing on appreciation, you can learn to hear behind the cranky words to the heart's unmet needs behind it -I shared how I still haven't been able to get through listening to the Boy Crisis Book because it triggers so much about my own personal situation. Warren invited a follow-up call about this with me, I was floored, humbly grateful, prayers answered in such an unexpected way -He supported my own coaching practice by teaching me that young adults on antidepressants have often not been taught boundaries, limits or delayed gratification. The mothers on antidepressants often feel like a failure when the children don't respect them -We teased about instead of creating work-life balance, he and his wife Liz create work-work balance! One of his latest sharing and caring sessions with her was about taking 3 months off a year! -And as the Divine would have it, we were able to invite her on the After the Show segment on Patreon... there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Tomás Hardiman is a film producer and a survivor of childhood abuse. His recent documentary “The Days of Trees” tells the story of his own experience of childhood sexual abuse, and his long road to recovery. In this conversation, Tomás reflects on the years he spent in the dark, his gradual process of healing, and how he was able to convert his deepest childhood wound into a creative project - a documentary that is now impacting people all over the world. Gabor Maté had this to say about it: 'It's all about healing and transformation, a person finding themselves… I really urge you to see it. A beautiful film.' Here are some of the things we explore in this discussion: — How memory, shame, and repression often intertwine in trauma — Why Tomás almost walked away from the film — The role of creative work in transforming suffering — How Tomás has been able to forgive the seemingly unforgivable. And more. You can watch the film at https://thedaysoftrees.com/ and get 50% off if you use the code: TWU50 when purchasing. --- Tomás Hardiman holds a B.Comm from NUI Galway (1979) and an M.A. in Film and Television Studies from Dublin City University (1992). After graduation he worked in human resources in Dublin before living for a time in Toronto, where he began a professional career in the theatre as General Manager of Mercury Theatre Company. Following his return to Ireland he was appointed Marketing/Publicity Director of The Abbey Theatre where he worked from 1985 to 1993. He then returned to Galway where he ran his own communications and independent film production company, Parzival Productions. From October 2002 to November 2007 he was Managing Director of Galway Arts Centre and the Cúirt International Festival of Literature. He was a member of the board of Theatre Forum, the representative group for Irish arts organisations, from 2005-2007. He continues to produce and manage creative projects across multiple artforms and in 2013 completed a three-year training programme to become a teacher of the Alexander Technique. He produced eleven films between 1998 and 2023. Most recently he collaborated with acclaimed Irish writer/director Alan Gilsenan, to produce a loose trilogy of films about psychological trauma: Meetings with Ivor, The Meeting and The Days of Trees. The latter won the George Morrison Award for Best Documentary at the 2024 Irish Film and Television Awards. --- Interview Link: — Tomás' website - https://thedaysoftrees.com/

On this episode of Visual Intonation, we sit down with Zoë Davidson, a brilliant Director of Photography whose work speaks volumes — even when there's no dialogue. Based in Toronto, Zoë's shot films across Canada, the U.S., and the Caribbean, and her camera has a way of capturing not just images, but emotion. Her journey is rooted in storytelling, travel, and a deep connection to culture. Zoë holds an MFA from Howard University and spent four years teaching digital media before diving full-time into freelance cinematography. She's worked with heavy hitters like Lionsgate, Terence Nance, and even the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. But what stands out most isn't just the scale of her work; it's the heart behind it. Every frame feels intentional, rich, and alive. Her films have screened at Sundance, the Trinidad + Tobago Film Festival, and CaribbeanTales, and she's taken home major awards, including Best Documentary at Emerging Lens in 2024. She's also part of powerful collectives like Brown Girls Doc Mafia, Women in Media, and the Canadian Society of Cinematographers, always bringing community into focus. In this conversation, we talk about how Zoë lights a scene, how she finds truth through the lens, and what it means to tell stories across borders. It's honest, inspiring, and full of wisdom for anyone drawn to the art of visual storytelling. Zoë Davidson's Website: https://zoedavidson.com/Zoë Davidson's IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm10347632/Zoë Davidson's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/zdavidson/Zoë Davidson's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/zo%C3%ABdavidsonZoë Davidson's SkillShare: https://www.skillshare.com/en/profile/Zo%C3%AB-Davidson/4543525?srsltid=AfmBOopeMfgG_PtnfaqbJOKZgHwCWq8QigYHyew7FXDv76VcxAPdxjztZoë Davidson's Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/zoedavidsonSupport the showVisual Intonation Website: https://www.visualintonations.com/Visual Intonation Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/visualintonation/Vante Gregory's Website: vantegregory.comVante Gregory's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/directedbyvante/ To support me on Patreon (thank you): patreon.com/visualintonations Tiktok: www.tiktok.com/@visualintonation Tiktok: www.tiktok.com/@directedbyvante

The idea of a pristine kitchen with clean countertops feels distinctively American, or an all-American idealist. However, the concept of the American ideal, or the American dream, desperately needs to be challenged. How better to do that than through food? My guest this week, author and filmmaker Jill Damatac, does just that in her new memoir, Dirty Kitchen: A Memoir of Food and Family.  Jill was born in the Philippines, raised in the US, and is now a UK citizen living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her film and photography work has been featured on the BBC and in Time, and at film festivals worldwide; her short documentary film Blood and Ink (Dugo at Tinta), about the Indigenous Filipino tattooist Apo Whang Od, was an official selection at the Academy Award–qualifying DOC NYC and won Best Documentary at Ireland's Kerry Film Festival. Jill holds an MSt in Creative Writing from the University of Cambridge and an MA in Documentary Film from the University of the Arts London. Her new book, Dirty Kitchen, is a food memoir of 22 years undocumented in the United States. In today's episode, we explore her memoir as a unique narrative that combines recipes, Filipino histories and mythologies, American immigration experiences, food writing, and personal narratives. Jill describes how she structured the book, how Filipino diasporic recipes relate to diasporic and migrant experiences, and the relationship between American foods and rebuilding a sense of self through Filipino foods after living undocumented for many years.  Resources: Buy Dirty Kitchen: A Memoir of Food and Family Website: https://www.jilldamatac.com/ Instagram: @jilldamatac

Daily News Brief by TRT World

Hamas accepts ceasefire proposal from Egypt and Qatar "The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has accepted a ceasefire proposal from Egypt and Qatar, urging Israel not to obstruct the plan. The leader of Hamas in Gaza, Khalil al-Hayya, announced the decision on Eid al-Fitr, a holiday following the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, emphasising their commitment to mediation efforts. Al-Hayya said that the weapons of the resistance are a red line. Meanwhile, Israel has countered with its own proposal, reportedly seeking the release of more captives. The push for a deal comes amid renewed Israeli air strikes on Gaza, which have killed over 920 people since March 18. In its war on Gaza, Israel has killed more than 50,200 Palestinians since October 2023, following the Hamas-led attack on Israel." Academy apologizes after backlash over Palestinian filmmaker's arrest "The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has issued an apology after its initial response to the arrest of Palestinian filmmaker Hamdan Ballal sparked outrage. Ballal, co-director of the Oscar-winning No Other Land, was assaulted by Israeli settlers and detained by Israeli forces before his release. Critics slammed the Academy's vague statement, prompting a stronger follow-up. While it now explicitly mentions Ballal and reiterates its condemnation of violence and suppression of free speech, it does not directly name Israel. No Other Land won Best Documentary for exposing Israel's demolition of Palestinian homes. " Syria's al Sharaa unveils new government "A new chapter for Syria has begun as President Ahmad al Sharaa unveiled the newly formed government, emphasizing a commitment to rebuilding state institutions grounded in transparency and accountability. Speaking at a ceremony in Damascus, al Sharaa declared the government's mission to advance education, healthcare and tackle corruption. The cabinet, comprising 22 ministers—including the first woman—covers key sectors, from defence to culture. The groundbreaking change in Syria comes after al Sharaa's leadership, following the ousting of Bashar Assad's regime." Sudanese army secures key area from paramilitary RSF "Sudan's army has announced it has seized control of the crucial Souq Libya market in Omdurman, a key area previously utilised by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces for attacks during the two-year conflict. The new development follows the army's declaration of victory in the capital Khartoum. Souq Libya, a major commercial hub, was left abandoned by the Rapid Support Forces, who fled, leaving behind weapons and equipment. While the army already held much of Omdurman, it aims to secure the entire capital area. The Rapid Support Forces has yet to comment. The UN has described the war, triggered by a power struggle, as one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, causing widespread displacement, hunger and ethnic violence. Estimates suggest tens of thousands have died. The conflict has further destabilised the region.   " Myanmar quake death toll exceeds 1,600 "The death toll from a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand has surpassed 1,600. Myanmar's military junta reports at least 1,644 dead and over 3,400 injured, with the toll expected to rise. The quake, followed by a 6.7-magnitude aftershock, devastated Mandalay and surrounding regions. Rescue efforts continue as the isolated areas struggle with severe damage, including collapsed buildings and infrastructure. Amid the destruction, survivors are calling for urgent aid, with some fearing more casualties are trapped in the rubble."

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Zman Yisrael founding editor Biranit Goren joins host Jessica Steinberg for today's Daily Briefing. Early this morning, a terror attack was carried out in Haifa's bus station, killing one man and injuring four others before the terrorist was neutralized by security forces. Goren discusses some of the known details of the attack, noting that it bore some resemblance to the terror attacks of the second intifada, targeting public transportation and carried out by lone attackers. Freed hostage Eli Sharabi spoke to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this morning, as he heads to the US to push on the hostage negotiations with US President Donald Trump. Goren notes that Sharabi, despite recently returning from captivity in skeletal condition to hear that his entire family was killed on October 7, appears to be a person of great emotional strength, focused on getting the remaining hostages home and telling the prime minister that in their conversation. She also discusses the Best Documentary win at the Oscars on Sunday night, when the Palestinian-Israeli film "No Other Land" took home the Academy Award. Goren notes that the film's win wasn't a surprise, and takes Culture Minister Miki Zohar to task for calling the film's win "a sad moment" for the film industry, saying that public funding should be for Israeli films about any subject, regardless of politics. Please see today's ongoing live blog for more updates. Inspire: The Universal Path for Leading Yourself and Others by Adam Galinsky Amazon.com Two kinds of leaders populate the world: those who inspire and those who infuriate. Which will you be? Whether you're a leader, a member of a team, a spouse, or a parent, this engaging and rigorous exploration unpacks the science of inspiration. Through compelling stories, fascinating research, and practical tips for addressing the common dilemmas we face daily, Inspire reveals how all of us, regardless of status or circumstance, can be more inspiring more often. Social psychologist and leadership expert Adam Galinsky has spent three decades building a method for determining when we are inspiring versus infuriating, and where various leaders—presidents, CEOs, coaches, teachers, parents, and a wealth of others—currently land on that spectrum. Galinsky shows how inspiring leaders can fill us with a wellspring of hope and possibility as they guide us to become better versions of ourselves. In contrast, infuriating leaders disappoint and annoy, fueling seething cauldrons of rage. But both types of leaders are deeply connected—together, they represent a universal continuum that is rooted in the very architecture of the human brain. This means that inspiring leaders aren't born—instead, we can inspire or infuriate in any given moment through our behavior, words, or presence. In this captivating book, Galinsky identifies the three universal archetypes of truly great leaders and explains how each of us can develop these characteristics within ourselves to become more inspiring: Visionaries offer a big-picture, optimistic, and engaging vision of the future; Exemplars are courageous and calm protectors who authentically express their passion while remaining consistent in word and deed; Mentors encourage, empower, and elevate others while challenging them to reach their potential. Inspire is an essential guide to becoming not only a better leader but also an effective decision-maker, a dynamic problem-solver, a value-creating negotiator, and an inclusive innovator. About the author Adam Galinsky is one of the world's foremost scholars in the fields of management and social psychology. He was recently selected as one of the World's 50 Best B-School Professors. He is currently the Vikram S. Pandit Professor of Business and Chair of the Management Division at the Columbia Business School at Columbia University. He has published more than 190 scientific papers about a diverse range of topics: leadership, power, negotiations, decision-making, diversity, and ethics. Frequently cited in the media, his research and insights have appeared in The Economist, The New York Times, The New Yorker, National Public Radio, and Wall Street Journal, among others. In 2006 he was the sole expert witness in a defamation trial, in which the plaintiff that he represented was awarded $37 million in damages. He is the Associate Producer on two award-winning documentaries, Horns and Halos (2003) and Battle for Brooklyn (2011), both of which were short-listed (final 15) for Best Documentary at the Academy Awards.

For Palestinian villagers in the rural southern West Bank community of Masafer Yatta, life under the Israeli occupation is terrifying. The Israeli military can show up, without warning, waving orders to demolish your house; those resisting can be arrested or even shot. Among the Palestinians who call Masafer Yatta home is filmmaker Basel Adra. Basel's extraordinary new documentary “No Other Land” — made by a Palestinian/Israeli collective that includes Basel, Yuval Abraham, Hamdan Ballal, and Rachel Szor — demonstrates how Basel, like his father before him, has relied on the power of the camera to document and protest the community's treatment under the Israeli army's orders to demolish Palestinian homes, schools and infrastructure.   Basel and Yuval join Ken on the pod to discuss the history of Masafer Yatta, the community's efforts at resistance, and the enduring on- and off-camera alliance between the two of them built over the course of making the film. Recently awarded three IDA awards, including Best Documentary and Best Directors, “No Other Land” is screening at film festivals and in select theaters.   Follow: @yuval_abraham and @baselaladraa on Instagram and @yuval_abraham on X @topdocspod on Instagram and X    The Presenting Sponsor of "Top Docs" is Netflix.
