Beguiled - Know Thine Enemy - Bishop Kevin Foreman
This week's Mixtape Rewind takes us back to our new music mix from October 2022Taylor Swift dominated charts by claiming all top ten Billboard spots with her "Midnights" album – we explore "Mastermind," highlighting how her songwriting prowess continues to evolve while maintaining that distinctive Taylor sound. The musical whiplash continues as we bounce between genres. Flatland Cavalry's folksy "Mountain Song" transports listeners to peaceful natural landscapes, while Sam Smith and Kim Petras deliver the imposing, menacing "Unholy" that marks a dramatic departure from Smith's typical style. Rock veterans make strong showings with Smashing Pumpkins returning to their hard-edged roots on "Beguiled" and Red Hot Chili Peppers honoring guitar legend Eddie Van Halen with their extended six-minute tribute "Eddie."Our exploration reveals fascinating discoveries – from The 1975's "I'm In Love With You" (prompting us to admit we've overlooked their 20-year catalog) to emerging artist Jake Swamp and the Pine's nostalgic "Empty Stomachs and Bloodshot Eyes." We even find Bruce Springsteen covering Ben E. King on his upcoming Motown and soul covers album.https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/new-music-october-2022/pl.u-mJy81vBINE8XR1q https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0BzHINFCB80bJQZAlwEiWu?si=18378ffac35a4bd5Mastermind by Taylor SwiftMountain Song by Flatland CavalryUnholy by Sam Smith & Kim PetrasFrancesca by WeezerLift Off by LabrinthI'm In Love With You by The 1975Beguiled by The Smashing PumpkinsEmpty Stomachs and Bloodshot Eyes by Jake Swamp and the PineEddie by Red Hot Chili PeppersStfu (feat Rick Nielsen) by Todd RundgrenElectricfy My Love by Mondo CozmoDon't Play That Song by Bruce SpringsteenSupport the showVisit us at https://www.superawesomemix.com to learn more about our app, our merchandise, our cards, and more!

Welcome to Director Watch! On this AwardsWatch podcast, co-hosts Ryan McQuade and Jay Ledbetter attempt to breakdown, analyze, and ultimately, get inside the mind of some of cinema's greatest auteurs. In doing so, they will look at their filmographies, explore what drives them artistically and what makes their decision-making process so fascinating. Add in a few silly tangents and a fun game at the end of the episode and you've got yourself a podcast we truly hope you love. On episode 44 of the Director Watch Podcast, the boys are joined by Lead News Editor for Collider Maggie Lovitt to discuss the next film in their Sofia Coppola series, The Beguiled (2017). Four years after her most modern film to date, Sofia Coppola swerved back into a historical dramatic setting with The Beguiled, a remake of the 1971 Southern Gothic thriller set in Virginia during the American Civil War. When a young girl finds a wounded Union soldier right outside her all-girls school where she lives with several other women of various ages, the ladies nice, quiet way of life is turned upside down by the arrival of this sensual, seductive, ultimately menacing presence. Led by an all-star cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Kristen Dunst, Elle Fanning, and Colin Farrell, Coppola dives beautifully and patiently into the physiological nature of what it is like when a figure like this infuriates these women's lives and how their nature and unnatural responses to this soldier's inclusion in their life speaks to their basic human desires, and how temptation can overwhelm and get the best of them when it is all said and done. Ryan, Jay, and Maggie break down their reactions to the film, its connections to the original film, where it ranks in Coppola's filmography, Farrell and Kidman's career retrospective, how devilish Farrell's character is in the film, and if her second attempt at a period piece is just as successful as Marie Antoinette. You can listen to the Director Watch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music and more. This podcast runs 2h01m. The guys will be back next week to begin their new series covering the films of Sofia Coppola with a review of her next film, On the Rocks. Add in a few silly tangents and a fun game at the end of the episode and you've got yourself a podcast we truly hope you love. On episode 43 of the Director Watch Podcast, the boys are joined by Nicole Ackman to discuss the next film in their Sofia Coppola series, The Bling Ring (2013). Following her most subtle work to date, Sofia Coppola took a full swing the other way in tackling a larger than life, true story that is all about how we consume celebrity culture and consumerism. The Bling Ring follows a group of young, fame-obsessed teenagers in the late 2000s, that use the internet to track where their favorite movie and reality stars are so they can rob their homes while the stars are away. Led by Emma Watson, Taissa Farmiga, and a mostly unknown cast, Coppola examines the newest generations obsessions with the figures and institutions that she grew up around, how this mindset has gotten worse since the actions seen in the film, and how it all seems inconsequential in the grand scheme of things once all the dust settles on the robbers. Ryan, Jay, and Nicole break down their impressions on the film, if Coppola was the right choice to tackle this modern subject matter, Watson's career path (a lively, respectful argument between Ryan and Jay), the minimalist approach to the screenplay, the sharp contrast in the cinematography between the day and night sequences, what is the best sandwich they've ever had, and is this the best social film commentary released in 2013. This week, the great Jake Mueller (Cinebums) returns to the show to talk Sofia Coppola's The Beguiled. A remake of the Clint Eastwood/Don Siegel film of the same name, the film stars Colin as a Union soldier in the waning years of the Civil War who is injured and taken in by a Confederate girl's school and all the sexual tension and various romances that follow. We talk the film's racial and gender politics and its complicated reception, along with our broader feelings on Coppola, the remaining context from the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, and the wildly different approaches between this film and the original. Based on Priscilla Presley's 1985 memoir, Elvis and Me, Coppola's Priscilla, which stars Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi, depicts the couple's epic yet tumultuous relationship, this time from Priscilla's perspective. From the late '50s to the early '70s, Battat had a ton of ground—and fashion eras—to cover when it came to costume design. Is it Halloween yet? If it's getting cooler where you live, too, let's brew some tea or pour some hot chocolate or hot cider and snuggle on the sofa with two of the most atmospheric, painterly, creepy yet oddly feminist and romantic movies I've ever seen. CW: brief references to marital physical abuse and graphic 19th century medical techniques.https://www.confessionsofaclosetromantic.comA ghostly figure, an escapee from the local asylum, a forced marriage to a violent lunatic, and an intrepid woman who insists on wearing trousers while she's solving the mysteries: this creepy limited series, based on the classic 19th century novel by Wilkie Collins, has it all. If you're into romantic suspense, don't miss The Woman in White. The 1948 version is a delicious, edge of your seat creepfest as well.Oh this trailer for The Essex Serpent makes me want to start watching it all over again. Look at those mysterious, gorgeous, painterly shots! The music is so eerie and evocative, too.
