Heartbreaking was the only word that could be used to describe the death of a 10-month-old baby in Perth. What was less clear cut is the question that was posed to the judge - was the baby boy’s death an accident, or was he murdered by his father? Judith Fordham has been lauded as one of Western Australia’s most high-profile criminal lawyers, but her dual expertise in law and forensics sets her apart from her colleagues. In this episode with former Crime Insider Forensics host, Kathryn Fox, hear about one of the most divisive areas in both forensic science and the law - "shaken baby syndrome". This episode references child abuse and infant loss. Pastor Dan preached from Matthew 13:1–23 on the Parable of the Sower, highlighting how the condition of a person's heart determines their response to the Word of God. He explained the four types of soil as four types of hearts—hard, shallow, distracted, and receptive—emphasizing that true discipleship involves deep, enduring, fruit-bearing faith. Ultimately, he challenged listeners to examine their hearts and asked, “What kind of soil are you?”#HeartCheck #ParableOfTheSower #Matthew13 #SpiritualGrowth #BearFruit #FollowJesus #GoodSoil #DiscipleshipMatters
Life sometimes has a funny way of turning out. Sometimes a dire situation presents itself and the outcome is much better than we could have ever imagined. In this particular case, it took a mother to show her true love, courage and support and possibly willingly risk jail time to prove to her son that she loved him with her whole heart. While convalescing at home, Chisom finally was courageous enough to come out to his loving parents. Bedridden and home bound after his initial collapse, he was convinced it was time to open up to his parents about his sexuality. At a most vulnerable time in his life, he was scared and nervous about telling his parents the truth, that he was gay. He was certain that both his parents loved him unconditionally but was afraid this was going to be too much for them. "Knowing that my parents loved me so much, made it that much easier to come out to them and be open with them," added Chisom. His mother's response was " I know, I've always known," says my guest. On a grander scale, writing a personal essay about being a member of the LGBTQ community and having his story published in the NY Times Modern Love Column was frighting. Possibly the whole world could read it and find out the truth, that Chisom was a member of the gay community. Chisom's essay is an endearing story of his parent's love for their son. His mother, who's name is Gift, is exceptionally open and honest and loving of her son, regardless of his sexual preference. One can only hope, that everyone struggling with coming out to their loved ones, will receive the same openness and acceptance.Chisom's message to his mother "You are a rock star. You are a gift to me. And I love you very much. Words can't describe how much I love you and how much you mean to me. Everything I do, I do it for you. You are always there for me and you always support me. You always tell me to shoot for the stars".**In February 2021, Chisom has hired to be the Deputy Editor and Culture and Technology reporter of @Livingfree_UK. https://livingfreeuk.org/"Living Free UK is a registered community interest company founded in 2018 out of the struggles of millions of LGBTIQ+ Africans who are still battling with their sexuality and gender identity, especially in countries where it is still illegal to live their truth and in some cases lose their lives while trying to find liberty and acceptance. Our main aim is to provide support and validate the lived experiences of LGBTIQ+ Africans, people seeking asylum, and refugees. As research shows, there are 72 countries where homosexuality is still a crime and even in the UK, LGBTIQ+ Africans experience immense difficultly when finding a safe space to express themselves freely and openly without fear of racism, afrophobia, or prejudice of any kind. Some are also unable to return home because of the danger that awaits them.**Now a budding journalist and recent nominee for a journalistic award- this is from Chisom's LinkedIn Acct. (March 2022)"Yesterday was the Future Awards Africa, and I was nominated for the journalism prize and was also the second youngest nominee in the awards. While I didn't win, I'm grateful for the opportunity to be seen.As a young journalist covering policies and minority groups in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, the work I do can be pretty dangerous, but getting nominated for this is a "stepping stone," as my ma put it. Also, I did receive a certificate of nomination, so yay!!Here is to more extraordinary things in 2022 and beyond because I am just getting started." https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/nigeria/10570304/Nigeria-passes-law-banning-homosexuality.htmlThe Act to Make Provisions for the Prohibition of Relationship Between Persons of the Same Sex, Celebration of Marriage by Them, and for Other Matters Connected Therewith, also known as the Same Sex (Prohibition) Act 2006, was a controversial draft bill that was first put before the both houses of the National Assembly of Nigeria in early 2007. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. And a big shout-out to James Walker from Laredo, TX. James, thank you for being a vital part of Project23. Because of you, we're helping people across the world receive and respond to the Word of God. This one's for you. Today, we're looking at Mark 4:13-20: And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? The sower sows the word. And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” — Mark 4:13-20 The disciples asked Jesus to explain the parable—and he did. No mystery. No guessing. Just clarity to those who ask, seek, and knock. He told them that the seed is the Word of God. And the soil? That's our hearts. What makes this parable so powerful is that it doesn't just explain how to grow—but why so many don't. Some hear the Word and Satan snatches it away before it can even sink in. Some hear and respond quickly—but without roots, they wither under pressure. Some let the Word grow—but it gets choked out by anxiety, money, distractions, and desires. Some—only some—receive the Word deeply, producing a harvest far beyond their own ability. The prevalence and prominence of the Word is never the problem. The condition of our hearts is always the problem. And this parable isn't about four different kinds of people. It's about four different kinds of hearts and their responses. And if we're honest, we've probably been all four in our lives. Sometimes we're hard. Sometimes we're shallow. Sometimes we're distracted. Sometimes—we're finally open, and the Word bears fruit. So the personal and probing question is: What kind of soil is my heart today? And here's the good news: soil can change. The Spirit can till, soften, clear, and prepare your heart again. You just have to ask. Are your ready to ask? Spirit, soften my calloused heart to the seed of truth. Multiply your Word and truth through me. May I bear a bountiful harvest. Amen. #HeartCheck, #GoodSoil, #FruitfulFaith ASK THIS: Which soil type best describes your heart right now—and why? What tends to choke out the Word in your life the most? How can you build stronger spiritual roots? What fruit have you seen when the Word takes deep root in your life? DO THIS: Write down one thing that's currently choking or distracting you from fully receiving God's Word. Then pray and ask God to help you clear it out. PRAY THIS: God, I want to be good soil. Help me uproot what's shallow, hardened, or distracting. Let your Word go deep—and bear lasting fruit in my life. Amen. PLAY THIS: Clear the Stage.

Pastor Austin Gilliland Proverbs 4:23
Dr. Charles Bridges, the CSO at CorVista Health, has developed a cardiovascular diagnostic platform that uses a simple device to collect various heart signals. The platform then sends that data to the cloud for fast machine learning-based analytics, which can detect conditions like pulmonary hypertension and coronary artery diseases. This test can be given at the point of care and is significant, as these conditions are frequently under-diagnosed due to a lack of accessible testing. Charles explains, "It's really an amazing breakthrough. Yes, it's a very simple device from the point of view that it's about the size of an iPad. It requires that you connect seven electrodes to the patient. An electrode is identical to what they put on your chest when you get an electrocardiogram, an EKG, and a PPG sensor on the finger. Those of us who made it through COVID-19 probably learned a little about PPG sensors because those we use to measure your arterial oxygen saturation and the most severe cases of COVID-19 were associated with a reduction in that. So it's always reassuring to see that yours was 98%, for example, which would be normal, but we're not using that sensor to measure oxygen saturation. We're measuring the raw light signals, the red and infrared light signals." "As we do for the electrical signals we measure, we apply very sophisticated mathematics to those 10 million data points we derive. And we get that all in about three minutes and we send those in a very secure fashion to the cloud." "To summarize that, the CorVista device, while the patient is still in the office, gives the doctor a report in about 15 minutes, both about pulmonary hypertension and about coronary artery disease, which are comparable and, in some cases, arguably more accurate than the standard of care for those two diseases." #CorVistaSystem #CorVistaHealth #CardiovascularCare #Cardiology #CardioDiagnostics #HeartHealthInnovation #NonInvasiveDiagnosis #MedicalDevice #MedTech #Diagnostics #PointOfCareSolutions #ML #DigitalCardiology #HealthEquity #HealthcareAccess #CardiologyDesert #PulmonaryHypertension #CoronaryArteryDisease #CardiovascularDisease corvista.com Listen to the podcast here

Can you imagine having to be resuscitated and how traumatic an experience it must be? Now imagine what it is like to be resuscitated 32 times...as a baby? One man who knows what that is like is Michael Teehan, because he lived through it. Michael, a native of Clare who now lives in Dublin, was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect shortly after birth. Heart Children, the national charity supporting children and young people with congenital heart disease (CHD), will host its annual conference, The Beat Goes On, on Saturday February 22 in Dublin, as part of Global Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Month. The Beat Goes On conference is aimed at Ireland's 19,000 young people and adults living with CHD, as well as parents. To find out more, Alan Morrissey was joined by the Secretary of Heart Children, Michael Teehan. Photo (C): stu teehan

This week on the pod is Julian Guinane! Julian is the founder of The Runners Central, a running media company that covers everything in the world of track and field, cross country, and road racing. The Runners Central is one of the only places you will find that strives to provide daily news and headlines pertaining to the sport of running. Julian and his team do an incredible job making consistent, reliable, and just downright dope content. They have amassed over forty-one thousand followers on Instagram and that number climbs each day. Personally, I love The Runners Central and it is a place that I regularly go to stay up-to-date in the world of running. In a nutshell, The Runners Central is pure gold. And today on the show, Julian and I discuss the journey and growth of The Runners Central. He shares how a simple quarantine hobby has turned into not only a source of income, but a true passion and something that he loves to do. We talk all about the challenges of content creation and the importance of consistency and perseverance in order to grow in the world of content creation. Julian also details what he thinks the future of content creation in the world of running is going to look like. Julian and I also dive into his personal journey in the sport of running. Simply put, Julian was an absolute stud in high school. But he opens up about how that all came to a pause when he learned he had an extremely rare heart condition, being only one of two people in the Los Angeles County to be diagnosed with it. There are a lot of parallels in the lessons that are important in content creation as well as in the sport of running. Lessons like consistency, hard work, perseverance, and just flat out never giving up are traits that not only help content creators, but will also bring your running to the next level. If you are looking for an inspirational, insightful, and motivational conversation all packed into one, this one is for you. Don't miss out on the Julian Guinane Special!
