Today we have Dior Bediako joining us in the guest chair. Dior is the founder of Pepper Your Talk and The Junior Network- fashion's first member's club for entry level professionals. Prior to building her business, Dior worked as a Press Sample Assistant at Burberry, and as much as she loved the brand and it's culture, she felt she was not able to capitalise on her potential- so she built Pepper Your Talk a phy-gital platform and community for young fashion creatives. She then launched The Junior Network where she supports entry level fashion professionals enter and level up in the industry.Dior, also now a guest lecturer at multiple universities, speaks candidly on her own journey and shares much of what she believes to be some of the key characteristics and competencies required to cultivate a fulfilling career.Links mentioned in this episode:Google DriveThe Alchemist by Paul CoelhoDior's Simple CV Edit GuideSocial Media:IG: @diorbediakoIG: @pepperyourtalk @thejuniornetworkWeb: https://www.pepperyourtalk.co.uk/Join the community:IG: @workthrive See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

From her advice on 'socialising' business ideas and building a network before you launch; how she’s funded Pepper Your Talk and The Junior Network since day one given that it was an idea that didn’t lend itself to revenue from the outset; why she’s recently scaled back to focus on learning more about business for long-term sustainability and growth; to how she deals with every day challenges like her own inner critic constantly questioning whether she’s commercially minded enough and has what it takes to be an entrepreneur; as I’m sure you’ll soon hear, I resonated with so many elements of Dior’s story and am hoping you’ll find her advice as useful as I did…   She can. Super excited to announce that I have teamed with the good people at Bumble Bizz to host the very first Trusting The Process LIVE event this Wednesday 6th March. In honour of International Women’s Day, on Wednesday 6th March I’ll be joined for an intimate conversation and Q&A with fellow believer & founder of Pepper Your Talk and TheJuniorNetwork (https://www.pepperyourtalk.co.uk/thejuniornetwork/), Dior Bediako. Featured in notable publications and spaces such as Refinery 29 and Stylist Live, Dior is a force to be reckoned with. From landing a role with the high-end luxury brand Burberry, as a black woman in an unfamiliar space Dior was soon launched into a new world where she was required to learn skills such as negotiation, networking and navigating the workplace, fast. She quickly saw that the issues she faced were widespread and sought to fix that. Quitting her job at Burberry, Dior stepped out in faith launching Pepper Your Talk; the unique platform created to help others find their feet within the industry. Members' club, #TheJuniorNetwork, soon followed. By maximising her network and identifying a solution to a problem, Dior has built her own table where women can navigate their careers with creativity and confidence. On the night, we’ll be unpacking the gems in her career journey from fashion grad to biz owner. From financial challenges to FOMO, we’re sharing the real tea on entrepreneurship. Come and learn from topics such as networking effectively and how to build a business that serves others as we ask “what happens when we pivot from asking for a seat at the table, and instead build our own?” LIMITED TICKETS available NOW: http://bit.ly/TTPlive

It's almost the end of the year, and to celebrate how far the show has come in just 6 short months (thanks to you for all the support!), I put together a Best Of episode to feature some of my favorite clips. Now, this was no easy task. I re-listened to a ton of tracks and it was really hard to pick the best ones. If you only listen to one entire episode from the show, let it be this one. To make things easy for you, I broke it into 3 main categories: launching a label, freelancing, and career growth. There's also a short bonus clip at the end :) Here are the timestamps if you want to jump around: Launching a Label: 04:31 Freelancing: 14:14 Career Growth: 25:12 And if you want to hear the full episode for any of the featured clips, here's the list: Launching Your Label Episode 20: Jay Arbetman of The Sourcing District on how to find low minimum fabrics and trims for your fashion collection. Episode 9: Traceena and Lauren of The Sales Concept on how to increase sales and profits for your fashion brand. Freelancing Episode 2: Melissa Mendez on how to get more freelance clients with email pitching  (with word for word scripts you can use). Episode 4: Marissa Borelli on how to stay in touch with prospects so they always think of you first when they have work. Career Growth Episode 18: Dior of Pepper Your Talk on how to write a resume that gets you the job, even if you have no experience. Episode 6: Chris Kidd of Style Careers on how experienced designers can make sure they get the wage they deserve Bonus Clip on Fighting Fear Solomon is one of those kind hearted soft souled people that you just want to give a giant bear hug to. I've not met him in real life, but when I do, that hug is happening (you've been warned, Solomon, you've been warned!). There are two parts to his episode, one on creativity, one on fear. If you're feeling creatively stuck or are terrified of putting yourself out there, these episodes are mandatory listening. The sound of his voice alone with soothe you - pinky promise ;) Episode 23: Solomon on staying creative even when you're uninspired or feel like there's never any time. Episode 24 (the clip is from this one): Solomon on getting past fear and maintaining your cool so you can get through any situation. If you would have asked me a couple years ago if I'd be sitting here recording a weekly podcast and interviewing industry experts from around the world, I would have said no way. But here I am, and I'm loving every minute of it. Thank you for your support and continued listening. Can't wait to see what 2018 brings for all of us.

Two young women at the top of their game talk about junior-level staff – and how the creative industries don’t always encourage them to their full potential. Dior Bediako is the founder of Pepper Your Talk, a platform for young fashion creatives. Her new project The Junior Network has created a community of fashion professionals at the beginning of their careers, with events and resources to propel them forwards. Mercedes Benson is an independent social media marketing socialist, who has worked for Google, Adidas and Puma. Her community-based platform SocialFixt encourages entry-level black, Asian and minority talent into the creative industries. Also on the agenda: tokenism, the experience of recent graduates and why we should all be learning from our junior colleagues.

Dior Bediako founded Pepper Your Talk out of personal frustration. As a young designer beginning her career in fashion, she realized there was little to no support available for designers to work they way up from an entry level job. In her own words, PYT is that friend that will: (a) steal all the unanswered fashion questions from your head (b) ANSWER THEM with the help of our cheeky industry connections (c) Make you laugh (when you want to cry) throughout the process of navigating the career cross-roads. In our interview, she delivers on all of these things! You will learn: How to tailor your resume / CV towards fashion jobs even if you have no experience How to write a cover letter / introduction that gets noticed What you can do to be prepared for an interview, and how to decrease your anxiety Why you must have an opinion, even if everyone doesn’t agree How to add value to your team and get noticed in your company Why you should always be thinking about what’s next in your career Why it’s ok not to know everything The number one question you should ask in every interview How to follow up and get feedback when you don’t get the job What to do when you resume goes into a black hole Guest Info & Resources: Pepper Your Talk Website Pepper Your Talk Instagram Enjoy the show?
