Hey everyone I'm Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia.“The Christ of John's Gospel” has been our theme for the past couple of months teachings with a focus on John's unique portrayal of the Christ.Today we are talking about The Promise of The Holy Spirit.Saying goodbye can be difficult.People struggle with the words when a friend or family member will be going away for a long period of time.Likewise, the disciples had a hard time saying farewell to the Master.Jesus had prepared them for the fact of His death, but they were not willing to accept this reality. The closer the time came for Jesus' departure, the more they recognised the reality. The Lord and His disciples had a difficult time leaving each other.Jesus told the disciples that His departure would be only for a short time. John 14:19, “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.Jesus promised that He would be with His disciples in the power and presence of His Spirit. In other words, Jesus Himself would be present with His disciples in another manner.Maybe believers need to examine the promise Jesus gave to His disciples about the Holy Spirit. We need not be discouraged because the physical presence of Jesus is not with us.He is present in the Holy Spirit. We need to understand this and celebrate His presence!Until next timeStay in the BlessingsI really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer.Theres nothing thats too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body! You're important to God, and you're important to us at The Refinery. When it comes to prayer, we believe that God wants to meet your needs and reveal His promises to you.So whatever you're concerned about and need prayer for we want to be here for you! Welcome back to Trading Corner. This week, James and Manny dive headfirst into the wild ride that is the HSFO market and what it means for cracks, margins, and benchmark distortion.Three trades this week:James' Trade Idea:Hold Long Dec '26 EBOB Crack — Deferred gasoline margins still underpriced with summer upside in sight.Manny's Trade Ideas:Long June/July DFL Roll — Tight barrels and seasonal strength point to continued structure.Long Q3 DFL — Dubai benchmark pricing is misfiring, but physicals suggest upside still to come. From refinery complexity choking HSFO supply, to a benchmark blindspot in Dubai, and a product market that's tightening as the mercury rises, James and Manny unpack the big themes:* Why high-sulfur fuel oil cracks are breaking records* The lead/lag dance between fuel and crude pricing* A deep dive on Dubai's Murban distortion and why it's capping benchmark reaction* When "margin boxes" lie — and how to trade what's really happening* The case for long product / short crude reversals as we enter Q3* Why June vs. July is where the curve gets interestingGlossary terms featured this week:Crack Differential between a barrel of product and crude oil, indicating refinery margin.Volatility Volatility is the degree of variation of a trading price series over time.HSFO Fuel oil with higher sulfur contents - max: 3.5%. Typically used in shipping and power generation.Margins The difference between the prices of refined products and crude oil.Platts Price Reporting Agency which provides benchmark price assessments in the physical energy markets.Lead / Lag The lead-lag relationship in trading describes how one market or asset (the "leader") tends to move ahead of another (the "lagger"), allowing traders to anticipate price movements based on these patterns.Over brought “Over brought” refers to a market condition where a trader has purchased more of a commodity than intended or than the market can absorb, increasing downside risk if demand falls short.Balmo "Balmo" (Balance of Month) refers to contracts covering the remaining days of the current month, used for short-term supply or hedging once the month is underway.Dubai (contract) The Dubai contract is a crude oil benchmark used to price Middle Eastern exports to Asia, reflecting medium sour crude and managed by the Dubai Mercantile Exchange (DME).Naphtha Naphtha is a light, flammable hydrocarbon liquid from petroleum refining, used in gasoline production and widely in industrial and petrochemical processes.

With Valero announcing the pending closure of one of its two remaining California refineries, the state will lose at least 18% of its current refining capacity by the end of 2026.Because California is an “energy island,” meeting demand for California and the parts of Nevada and Arizona that rely on its refineries will require costly imports of volatile fuel by emissions-heavy tanker ships. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has long blamed rising gas prices on refiners' “price gouging,” but even though his own administration has said that it has no found no evidence of such, he called a special legislative session last year to pass new refinery regulations that both Democratic and Republican governors of neighboring states warned would lead to price hikes and supply shortages. Now, with the closure announcement, the warnings from the energy industry and regional leaders are coming to fruition.

California's self-inflicted gas crisis is about to hit wallets HARD with projections of $8.43 per gallon by 2026. Watch as Valero and Phillips 66 refineries flee the state, taking millions in revenue and leaving a gasoline deficit of up to 13 million gallons daily. Why? Because California's virtue-signaling politicians have created a regulatory nightmare while banning gas vehicles by 2035. As usual, Sacramento claims to be 'protecting consumers' while refineries that have operated for decades are saying 'we're done.' Remember when officials blamed 'price gouging' for high gas prices? How's that working out now that companies are shutting down entirely? The most painful part? Those hit hardest will be everyday Californians already struggling to make ends meet.Is this what 'green leadership' looks like—skyrocketing costs and greater dependence on Middle Eastern oil shipped on carbon-belching tankers? Will Gavin Newsom admit his policies are driving this crisis, or find someone else to blame?

Last month, Oil Giant Valero announced it would “restructure, or cease operations” at its Benicia refinery by the end of April 2026, as California transitions away from fossil fuels. The news left city officials, workers and residents scrambling to figure out what to do next. Valero is the city's largest employer and a significant taxpayer, but also a source of pollution. We talk about the possible closure and what it means for our region. North Bay Resources Inc CEO Jared Lazerson talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's latest developments in its gold processing operations, highlighting strong recovery results and ongoing optimization efforts. Lazerson confirmed that North Bay has shipped 344 pounds of gold concentrate to its refinery partner, Just Refiners, as part of what he described as the second major test shipment. He noted, “We're still in the test shipment phase… but every penny counts,” estimating the value of the shipment at just under $10,000. The aim is to finalise proof-of-concept and prepare the mill for ramp-up. The company has transitioned its processing approach, making gravity separation the primary method over flotation. This shift followed encouraging metallurgical results in December, which showed a 97% recovery rate—approximately a two-thirds gravity to one-third flotation ratio. Lazerson reiterated the strength of these figures, saying, “Extraordinary recovery… gravity seems to be going really well.” To support optimization, North Bay has upgraded the ball mill with new grinding balls and improved the raker classifier. The flotation circuit is also under fine-tuning, with all reagents on hand and final conditioning steps being assessed. The company anticipates that improved flotation performance could lift overall recovery by more than 30%, adding additional revenue potential from future shipments. Another California refinery bites the dust, and NOBODY is surprised. Valero's Benicia refinery announces closure by 2026, the latest casualty in California's regulatory war on the oil industry. Watch as we break down how excessive taxation and environmental regulations are driving refineries out of the state while Governor Newsom pretends to be shocked at the consequences of his own policies. With 400 jobs on the chopping block and millions in local revenue vanishing, this small town faces devastation while politicians virtue signal about going green. Is anyone actually connecting the dots between California's refinery closures and those sky-high gas prices you're paying at the pump? When will officials admit their 'green' policies are destroying communities while doing little for global emissions? "Water is a limited resource, and in this refinery, every gallon saved is a win for sustainability." – Juan Meneses Water is a critical resource in industrial operations, and improving efficiency is a top priority for many companies. In this episode of Scaling UP! H2O, returning guest Juan Meneses, District Manager at Nalco Water, an Ecolab Company, discusses how a Western refinery optimized its water footprint using advanced treatment technologies. This episode is packed with insights on water conservation strategies, sustainability goals, and the role of advanced monitoring technologies like 3D TRASAR in maximizing operational efficiency while minimizing environmental impact. Key Topics Covered: The Challenges of Water Usage in Refineries This refinery faced rising water costs and increasing sustainability pressures. With water sourced from the city, costs were projected to rise by 5% annually, with wastewater discharge costs climbing even faster. Finding ways to reduce water consumption while maintaining efficiency was a top priority. Optimizing Cooling Towers for Maximum Water Efficiency Cooling towers presented a key opportunity for conservation. The team aimed to increase cycles of concentration to reduce water waste without compromising system integrity. By using 3D TRASAR technology, they monitored real-time conditions, allowing precise adjustments to prevent scaling and corrosion. Implementing Smart Water Treatment Strategies To sustain higher cycles, the refinery introduced dual cathodic inhibitors and high-charge polymers, enhancing corrosion and scale control. pH adjustments ensured effective biocide performance while maintaining system reliability. This strategic shift allowed for significant reductions in water and chemical use. Results and Lessons Learned By increasing cycles from 5.5 to 9.3, the refinery saved 52 million gallons of water annually while cutting wastewater discharge and chemical consumption. The biggest takeaway? Real-time monitoring and proactive pH control are essential for maintaining efficiency at higher cycles. Best Practices for Industrial Water Optimization Collaboration between plant operators and water treatment professionals is key. Despite the fact that Putin's Government increased the planned budget deficit several times during the year, they still did not meet it. In December, everything that had been so diligently hidden under the rug for an entire year came to light. The deficit was a record breaking, and Russia simply cannot afford to spend so much. The liquid part of the National Welfare Fund is almost spent, revenues are not growing, but expenses are increasing several fold. And then there is Trump with his ideas to bring down oil prices. It is impossible to say yet whether he will succeed in his plan, because it will also affect American oil producers, but technically such a possibility exists if the new American president comes to an agreement with OPEC.In general, the Russian economy is not doing well anyway, and if Trump implements his plans, it could accelerate the onset of a serious crisis, says Vladimir Milov in a new economic report.YouTube channel of Vladimir Milov: @Vladimir_MilovSupport Vlad's work:Patreon: / milov Crypto: http://milov.org/donate.htm /Vladimir Milov on other social media:Telegram: https://t.me/team_milov Facebook: /milov.vladimir Twitter: / v_milov Instaghram: /milov_ruEnglish translation by PrivateerStationOriginal video in Russian: https://youtu.be/LLz7SZsx0xQ--------------------------------------------------Privateer Station on Spreaker: https://www.spreaker.com/show/privateer-station-war-in-ukrainePS on Rumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-1582435PS on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/privateerstationPS on iHeartRadio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/53-privateer-station-war-in-uk-101486106/PS on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5iEdf0Jyw1Y3kN04k8rPibPS on ApplePodcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/privateer-station-war-in-ukraine/id1648603352PS on Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuc3ByZWFrZXIuY29tL3Nob3cvNTY0NzQzOS9lcGlzb2Rlcy9mZWVkPS on PadcastAddict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4079993PS on PodChaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/privateer-station-war-in-ukrai-4860097PS on Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/us/show/4546617PS on Castbox: https://castbox.fm/channel/id5162050If you like what we do and would like to support our channel, consider becoming a member:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT3qCbfcPbnph7QS3CPBTMQ/joinBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/privateer-station-war-in-ukraine--5647439/support.

Big Oil “has been screwing you for decades,” Newsom said. “Price spikes have cost Californians billions of dollars over the years, and we're not waiting around for the industry to do the right thing,” Newsom said. “We're taking action to prevent these price spikes and save consumers money at the pump,” he said. The bill passed the California Assembly last week with a 41-16 vote. Many Democrats did not vote and four voted against the radical measure. The measure will force local refineries to stockpile fuel and if they don't follow the new regulations they can be fined up to $1 million PER DAY. The heavy fines will inevitably be passed down to the consumer and cause gas prices to spike. Refineries announced they are leaving California because of Newsom's new bill. Phillips 66 refinery announced they are ceasing operations in Los Angeles because of Newsom's bill. Chevron is also moving its headquarters from California to Houston, Texas thanks to Newsom.
