The past few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind of an exciting time, because I've bought a new eCommerce brand! A skincare and beauty brand called Indagare Natural Beauty. I could perhaps record an entire episode on the process of negotiating a business purchase or sale, going through the due diligence process, and then finalising the settlement. But I felt like it could be a bit more helpful for you all to hear about what we're doing now to rapidly grow the business. Because the bottlenecks and opportunities within this business are very similar to those experienced by probably 99% of clients and potential clients who speak to us about their business. So, today on the show, I will walk you through the growth strategy I'm implementing that will take Indagare from a $10k per month brand into a million dollar a year business within the next year, and to multi-million dollars a year within 3 years. This allows influencers to focus on what they do best – engaging with their audience and bringing authenticity to the brand. One of the key takeaways from the discussion was the importance of authenticity in a successful product launch. Oliver shared a launch story that resonated with consumers because the influencer was deeply involved and genuinely passionate about the product. This authenticity and a strong product-market fit make a brand stand out in the crowded beauty space. Not all launches are successful, and Oliver was candid about the reasons behind failed ventures. A lack of authenticity, product strength, and expertise can doom a brand. Influencers must be genuine and knowledgeable about their products to build trust with their audience.Key Points from the Episode:Introduction of Oliver Goulden and FounderSixFounderSix's partnership with influencers to launch brands in the beauty categoryThe hands-on support provided by FounderSix as an incubator and operatorExample of a successful product launch with an influencerElements of a failed launch and the importance of authenticity and product-market fitProcess of partnering with influencers and the value brought by FounderSixDiscussion on the ever-changing landscape of social media and staying updated on emerging influencersFounderSix's recent funding round and focus on launching multiple brandsAbout Oliver Goulden:Oliver Goulden, the co-founder of FounderSix, boasts a dynamic career spanning over two decades, marked by his expertise in spearheading marketing and business strategies for start-ups and multinational brands across Europe, the United States, and Asia. Cosmetic surgery was once associated with a one-size-fits-all approach, modifying patients to conform to a single standard of beauty. As this surgery has become more accessible worldwide, changing beauty trends have led to a proliferation of beauty standards for members of different racial groups. In Refashioning Race: How Global Cosmetic Surgery Crafts New Beauty Standards (University of California Press, 2023) Dr. Alka V. Menon enters the world of cosmetic surgeons, journeying from a sprawling convention centre in Kyoto to boutique clinics in the multicultural countries of the United States and Malaysia. She shows how surgeons generate and apply knowledge using racial categories and how this process is affected by transnational clinical and economic exchanges. Surgeons not only measure and organise but also elaborate upon racial differences in a globalised field of medicine. Focusing on the role of cosmetic surgeons as gatekeepers and producers of desired appearances, Refashioning Race argues that cosmetic surgeons literally reshape race—both on patients' bodies and at the broader level of culture. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose forthcoming book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. A Fresh Story, season 3, episode 16 We had the chance to talk to esthetician Jennifer Adell. We chatted about the connection between our skin and our stories and spirituality; how she built a community on social media, and why she believes in empowering women to age proudly and beautifully. As a licensed esthetician for more than twenty years, Jennifer Adell has fostered a unique practice that incorporates ancient energy medicine principles with state-of-the-art technology. She has a modern outlook that fuses tried and true techniques with the undeniable benefits of science. After obtaining her cosmetology and esthetics licenses, she trained in a four-year energy medicine program at the Institute of Healing Arts and Sciences (IHAS) in Bloomfield, Connecticut, where she learned about the utility of energy medicine as a transformative tool for mind and body healing. There, she worked closely with clients suffering major immune system deficiencies as a result of chemo and radiation therapy, as well as those who would soon undergo or were currently recovering from surgery. In addition to amassing knowledge and honing invaluable techniques, her time at IHAS solidified for her the significance of my chosen career and the important role of the esthetician in the client's wellness journey and path to healing. More than that, it reinforced her philosophy of service, one rooted in compassion and consideration, which she applies to every client, regardless of age, wellness concerns, or nature of treatment. Following her education, she held senior-level positions at some of the foremost spas and wellness centers in New York City before relocating to Connecticut with her family in 2015. She currently serves as senior esthetician at New Beauty & Wellness in Westport. Check out more from Jennifer on her website, Instagram, and TikTok.
