Since the early days of the pandemic, there's been a lot of confusing, and sometimes conflicting, information about COVID-19 and children. On the one hand, we know that disease risk is linked to age, with older adults getting sick and dying at disproportionately higher rates than younger people. But on the other, COVID-19 has now become one of the top ten leading causes of death among children. With the recent approval of COVID vaccines for children ages 5 to 11, understanding the real risk COVID poses to this age group is more important than ever.Do you ever wonder if COVID affects kids? Dr. Priya Soni (@PriyaSoniMD) is a pediatric infectious disease specialist and assistant professor in pediatric infectious diseases at Cedars-Sinai. Since the beginning of the pandemic, she's been following the science about COVID-19 and kids and treating patients in the clinic. She walked us through what we currently know about how COVID-19 affects children, and what the data says about the new vaccine for 5 to 11-year-olds. If you have questions about vaccines for your kid, talking to their pediatrician is a great place to start.Have a question you've been wondering about? One day while driving between visiting her mom who just had knee surgery and caring for her dad who had a progressive illness, Priya Soni wondered, "Where are the others?" By others, she meant the other adult children caregiving for parents and family members. Years later, this question would lead her to start The Caregiving Effect, an organization dedicated to bringing adult children caregivers together through stories, support, and mentoring. On this episode I interview my friend Priya Soni, leader of The Caregiving Effect movement to understand why she created this community. Her story is inspiring and motivating and I know you will enjoy what she has to say. She talks about her upbringing where she learned the power of storytelling and creative expression right at the dining room table. Her interest in theater was sparked early on and led her to study drama therapy and other modalities of healing. I came into to contact with Priya shortly after my father’s passing and she was so supportive as I worked through my grief. Priya also was her father’s caregiver and has stepped into her purpose as the leader of the movement and community of adults now caring for their parents around the world. I love how wise and articulate Priya is and believe that she is living proof that you can learn lessons even from the lowest and most painful points in your life. We talk about the power of NOW and why surrender can often be the answer when you are a caregiver. I hope you enjoy our conversation about grace, grief and forgiveness.

In this episode of The After Life I discuss with Priya Soni how caring for her father in her early 20's informs the mentoring work she does today and the role spirituality plays in our personal development.
Soul Series - This mini series was born out of the questions Guest Host Colleen Kavanaugh brought to episode 4 which made us dig a little deeper into the understanding of spirituality and caregiving. In episode 2 of this mini series we continue to be led down a path of inquiry by Colleen. Will the questions get easier or will I need our soul guide Priya Soni to step inside of this wholehearted conversation with me?
