Today's Guest Vanessa is a mixed martial artist who specializes in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. She's also working on improving her striking by practicing mauy thai and boxing. Her first ever martial arts experience was 10 years old when she was a little girl. She experienced bullying, so she was motivated to begin martial arts as a form of self-defense. In 2017, she restarted her martial arts journey but was inconsistent. But then during the pandemic around 2020, 2021, this became her passion. Vanessa competes mostly in Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournaments. Within the last year, she began competing in mixed martial arts and kickboxing events. This improves her confidence as a woman in a male-dominated sport and in her everyday life.
