The weekly sermon from Alfred Almond Bible Church in Almond, NY
How does God look upon us when we become discouraged in doing what God asked of us or perhaps even distracted from it? The exiles who returned to Judea have been discouraged, and may have let that turn into becoming distracted from the task of rebuilding the temple of God. How does God respond? What is God’s view of them at this time? As we begin Ezra 5 we see a prophet who was sent to them. The messages he is given make it into a book we know as Haggai. In this weeks midweek service we take a look at these messages Haggai has for them, beginning with the first two tonight. What we learn from these messages to the people of Judea are intended to help us when we are facing the same thing. Have you been discouraged in your God given purpose? Have you put off doing what God told you to do? Let's look at the messages of Haggai together and see what we can use to help in what we need to overcome.

Sometimes our lives take our focus off of God and His glory, and it is not until the circumstances of our lives leave us no choice but to be drawn to or return to Him. The worship of God requires us to honestly evaluate our hearts and our priorities.

When we only see a troubled world, it's easy to talk ourselves out of starting a good thing. Hard times always surround good ministry. If we wait for a "perfect time", we will only wait to the end our our lives. Learn from Haggai to see that anytime can be God's time.

There are times in our lives when the Lord seems distant and we can’t really sense His presence in our lives. Most of the time when this happens it is because we have drifted in some way. The easiest way for us to drift is through distraction that keeps us from Him and the work He’s called us to do. In those times we need to be revived.

The people mistook (or accepted) their unwillingness as reason enough not to rebuild the Lord’s House. The prophet Haggai told them to “consider how you have fared.” When you look around at what’s happening, God reveals to you what is most important.

It's easy to miss the connection between our choices and our present circumstances. What does it look like to put God first in the following areas: home, career, time, money, goals, servic?

If we neglect the priority of the place of worship and prioritize personal gain it will be difficult to move forward by faith in the area of generosity.
