Unlock the spiritual and communal power of charity within Judaism as Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe guides us through the teachings of the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch. Discover the profound obligation each of us carries to give within our means, regardless of financial status, and how this act of giving can be a catalyst for both personal and spiritual growth. With insights from the Gaon of Vilna, we explore the distinction between tithes and personal charity, affirming that every act of giving holds equal value in the eyes of the Divine, whether it comes from abundance or modest means.Navigate the complexities of charitable giving with a heartfelt discussion on the guidelines rooted in Jewish tradition. Learn how to support individuals based on their previous lifestyles and the importance of maintaining dignity for both giver and receiver. Rabbi Wolbe highlights the thoughtful balance between personal financial stability and the aspiration to give generously, stressing that charity is not just an act of kindness but a profound commitment to communal harmony and peace. Our conversation also emphasizes the essential role of supporting both Jewish and non-Jewish individuals in need.Witness the transformative power of dignified charitable initiatives within the Jewish community. Rabbi Wolbe shares stories of organizations like Tomche Shabbat and a unique clothing charity in Brooklyn, both of which prioritize preserving the dignity and self-esteem of recipients. By offering gift cards instead of food boxes and creating store-like environments for clothing selection, these initiatives empower those in need, allowing them to maintain their dignity. We close with a reflection on the spiritual connection between giving and Hashem, celebrating the divine blessing of being able to give the finest in the spirit of true generosity. To have your questions featured on the Ask Away series, please submit your questions at askaway@torchweb.org_____________The Everyday Judaism Podcast is dedicated to learning, understanding and appreciating the greatness of Jewish heritage and the Torah through the simplified, concise study of Halacha, Jewish Law, thereby enhancing our understanding of how Hashem wants us to live our daily lives in a Jewish way._____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Marshall & Doreen LernerDownload & Print the Everyday Judaism Halacha Notes:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1RL-PideM42B_LFn6pbrk8MMU5-zqlLG5This episode (Ep. #56) of the Everyday Judaism Podcast by Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe of TORCH is dedicated to my dearest friends, Marshall & Doreen Lerner! In this conversation with Rabbanit Dr. Adina Sternberg, we explore how the tithes mentioned in this week's parsha can refine our sense of gratitude. We explore the difference between a 'maaser' mindset and a 'reishit' mindset through an original Torah idea written by Adina. To read more of Adina's Torah, check out her Hebrew book on the holidays here. This week's episode has been sponsored in honor of Rabbi Ed and Bobbie Winter's 60th wedding anniversary by their children and grandchildren. Mazal tov!

PEOPLE: Wherever we go, God knows our name. PASTOR: Whatever you do, from the time you wake up until you lay your head down again, God knows you. PEOPLE: Whatever we do, God knows our name. PASTOR: However you live, from your inner thoughts to your public acts and everything in between, God knows you. PEOPLE: However we live, God knows our name. PASTOR: We gather to worship God, who loves us, knows us, and calls us by name. PEOPLE: We gather to worship God, for we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God who knows our name! * Opening Hymn – “Jesus Loves Me” #191 ** Prayer of Confession Holy God, we confess that we do not always love our neighbor. We confess that we have despised others, even to the point of hatred. We confess that we have been hurt by others. We confess that forgiveness and reconciliation at times are just impossible for us. We know that nothing is impossible in You. We come to You, seeking healing and wholeness for us. Help us, whenever possible, to live in peace with others, to seek reconciliation and healing and forgiveness. For Your Son came and lived among us, was betrayed and denied, abused and put to death. He rose again and came with the message of peace to those who had denied him and abandoned him. May we walk in his ways. Amen. Silently Confess Our Sins Assurance of Pardon For nothing is impossible with God. There is no place you can go, no end of the earth you can run, where God cannot find you. There is nothing on earth or beyond death that can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. You are forgiven. You are loved. You are reconciled to God. KENDRA BALLIET ORGANIST JIM ROSS Prelude - Rhosymedre-Ralph Vaughn Williams Welcome & Announcements *Call to Worship PASTOR: Children of God, when we witness the needs of strangers and listen to the struggles of our friends, remember: PEOPLE: Let mutual love continue. PASTOR: When we hear the struggles of those in prison and recognize the suffering of people near and far, remember: PEOPLE: Let mutual love continue. PASTOR: When temptations to hoard more money, more power, and more influence surround us on every side, remember: PEOPLE: Let mutual love continue. PASTOR: As we gather for worship, remember: God is here among us, surrounding us with love and forming us to live in love everywhere we go. PEOPLE: We choose to cooperate with God’s love today and every day so that mutual love will continue wherever we go and whatever we do. Amen. * Opening Hymn – “Marching to Zion” #733 ** Prayer of Confession Knowing that our God journeys with us in our confusion, our doubts, our failings, our struggles, we now come humbly before God to ask for mercy. For the times we fail to offer hospitality to those in our world who suffer injustice, oppression, and poverty, we pray: God, have mercy on us and your people. For the times we lack courage to address the causes of injustice, oppression, and poverty, we pray to our God: God, have mercy on us and on your people. For the times we give in to despair and resignation when confronted with the injustice of our world, we pray to our God: God, have mercy on us and on your people. For the times we allow our fears to triumph over the call to solidarity, we pray to our God: God, have mercy on us and on your people. Merciful God, receive our petitions. Heal the brokenness in our hearts and in our world caused by injustice, indifference, selfishness, and fear. Open our hearts to hear the cries of your suffering people. Caleb Drahosh There's nothing that we have that isn't given to us by God. God is the Creator of everyone and everything and so all things belong to Him first. The foundation of giving for the Christian is the generosity of God. No act of generosity is greater than the giving of Jesus Christ. Reflecting God's generosity is commanded in Scripture. This is done by taking a portion of what one has been given by God and giving it back to Him in the way that He commands.

Teach us to listen to your voice, that we may hear the cry of the needy and respond. Teach us to love that we may offer care that brings others to you for healing. Teach us to lead, with your vision so that we lead others home in you. Have you noticed how the pleasures of life are fading away? Music, movies, celebrations, even simple joys—things that once brought us happiness now feel empty. Creativity is gone, joy is disappearing, and entertainment feels like a burden instead of a blessing. This isn't just coincidence—it's Bible prophecy unfolding before our very eyes. The Book of Enoch, Isaiah, Ecclesiastes, and many other scriptures foretold a time when “all the pleasures of life will vanish” and “the daughters of music shall be brought low.”

Too often, we only hear about the curses of God's Laws. Yes, our people have suffered under those curses, but that's not the whole story. The Word of God promises that if we keep His statutes, commandments, and judgments, we will prosper in all that we do — not just in the Kingdom to come, but today. In this message, I share my personal testimony of how seeking God has brought me success, health, strength, and peace — and how turning away from Him brought the opposite. The Bible declares:“Keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways… that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself.” – 1 Kings 2:3 (KJV)God's Laws were given to us not just to warn us of curses but to usher us into blessings:Deuteronomy 28:1-3 – Obedience brings blessings in the city and in the country.Judith 5:21 – If there is no iniquity in us, our God will defend us.Joshua 1:8 – Meditating on His Law leads to good success. This is not just about ancient Israel — this is about you, today. Your wealth, your health, your strength, and your success all come from the Lord. His Laws were meant to make you prosper and keep you in perfect health.

Meeting Summary: Dealing with Tangled EmotionsOpening & PreparationThe session began with a call for openness—inviting participants to preparetheir hearts and minds for spiritual reflection and teaching.Emphasis was placed on the need to listen beyond words, to be receptive tothe Holy Spirit's guidance during the talk.Main Topic: Emotions and Spiritual LifeKey Points:Role of Emotions: Participants were encouraged to consider areas of theirlives where emotions may have too much influence and where those emotionsneed to "take a back seat."Prayer for Emotional Guidance: There was a collective prayer asking for helpin keeping emotions such as hurt, offense, worry, anxiousness, fear, regret, shame, and pride in check.Walking by the Spirit: Discussion on the Biblical principle of "walking by theSpirit" instead of gratifying fleshly desires. Practical advice was given: pausingduring the day for 30 seconds to reflect on whether one is being led by theflesh or the Spirit.Craving for Awe: Highlighted that humans are driven by a need for awe andwonder, and that pausing to appreciate creation can fulfill this need in ahealthy, God-centered way rather than through emotional counterfeits orexcessive focus on feelings.Questions Raised:What area of your life do your emotions need to take a back seat more oftenthan they do?How often do we include the Holy Spirit in our daily walk versus following ourown desires?Cultural & Scriptural Reflections on FeelingsSociety often encourages "following your feelings," but this was critiqued aspotentially dangerous—following feelings can lead to negative outcomes if notchecked.Scriptural examples were used (e.g., Paul's teaching, Jesus' experiences) toillustrate that while emotions are real and valid, they must not control us.Noted that even Jesus experienced deep feelings (e.g., sorrow to the point ofdeath in the Garden of Gethsemane) but did not let those feelings dictate hisactions.Practical Examples & TestimoniesPersonal Story: The speaker shared a deeply personal account involving hisson's trauma and the emotional turmoil that ensued, illustrating the complexityand intensity of real-life emotions.Grief and Loss: Recent experiences with the death of a loved one (brother-in-law) were shared, reinforcing how life brings unexpected, tangled feelings.Congregational Participation: Listeners were asked to acknowledge theirown emotional struggles and prepare to lay them down during communion.Communion as a Step of FaithThe service was to conclude with communion, symbolizing both Christ'ssacrifice and the act of surrendering tangled or overwhelming feelings to God.Encouragement was given to receive communion in faith, believing for healingof broken bodies and emotions, and to let go of grief, offense, pride, orunforgiveness.Suggestion to partake in communion alongside someone else for support, particularly for youth or those needing accountability.Emotional Coping StrategiesFour F's of Response: Fight, flight, freeze, or fawn—common ways peoplereact to emotional pain or stress. Participants were encouraged to reflect ontheir default responses and to consider facing feelings as Jesus did: withhonesty and reliance on God.Acknowledging Pride: Special attention was given to the issue of pride as asubtle and dangerous emotion that must be surrendered.Decisions & Action PlansLay Down Emotions: As a symbolic act during communion, participants wereinvited to consciously give their tangled or destructive emotions to God.Seek Support: Encouraged to do this with a friend, spouse, or peer forincreased openness and healing.Ongoing Reflection: Advised to continue daily practices of pausing, reflecting, and inviting the Holy Spirit's guidance regarding emotions.ClosingThe meeting closed with a prayer, inviting the Holy Spirit to comfort, guide, convict, and heal participants in their emotional lives.Summary TableTopicKey Points Openness & PreparationBe receptive, prepare heart and mind, invite Holy Spirit. Emotions & Spiritual WalkIdentify areas where emotionsdominate; walk by the Spirit, not by flesh. Scriptural ReflectionJesus' example inGethsemane; scriptural guidance on emotions. Personal TestimoniesReal-lifestories of trauma, grief, and emotional struggle. Communion & SurrenderAct offaith to lay down emotions at the cross during communion. CopingStrategiesRecognize fight/flight/freeze/fawn; pride as a hidden danger;importance of facing emotions with God's help. Action PlansSurrender emotions, seek support, daily reflection, openness to Holy Spirit.Questions for Further Reflection:What emotions currently have too much control in your life? Are you willing to lay them down and seek healing? How can you make space for the Holy Spirit's guidance in your daily emotionalresponses? Today I turn 40.And my birthday message is simple: DREAM AGAIN.Life has moved fast. So many of my friends, brothers, and loved ones didn't make it this far. But I did. And so did you. That means God's not finished with us yet.The Bible says in Habakkuk 2:2-3 to “Write the vision… for the vision is yet for an appointed time.” And in Joel 2:28, God says “Your old men shall dream dreams.”That means I'm not too old to dream again. And neither are you.Somewhere along the way we stopped believing — but Jesus said unless we become like little children, full of faith and imagination, we'll miss the Kingdom entirely. (Matthew 18:3)This isn't just motivation — this is prophecy. This is your sign. This is your season.DREAM AGAIN.✨ Scriptures Mentioned:Habakkuk 2:2-3Joel 2:28Matthew 18:3Psalm 37:4Proverbs 13:12

Faith is not just a belief. It's not a thought, a feeling, or something you say to sound spiritual.Faith is an action. In this powerful sermon, Reverend Leo Dunson breaks down what it really means to have faith — not by words, but by your walk. Faith is adherence to God's Word. It's obedience. It's alignment with His commandments.
