God has always chosen to meet with His people in a gathered community. When Moses finished the tabernacle, the cloud of God’s presence descended and filled the meeting place. The cloud did not settle on every individual tent. It settled where God’s people came together. God’s presence was personal, but it was never private. From the wilderness onward, God established a pattern of meeting with a gathered people who desired His presence. Personal encounters with God are powerful, but they are not meant to replace the church. Paul encountered the risen Jesus on the road to Damascus, yet his story did not end there. God sent Ananias to pray for him, restore his sight, baptize him, and connect him to the community of believers. Paul met Jesus alone, but he could not become who God called him to be apart from the body of Christ. Many believers view church as optional, but God often places our healing, encouragement, growth, and breakthrough in relationships with other believers. The gifts of the Spirit were given for the good of others and flourish in community. Scripture teaches that the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. Spiritual gifts require people to serve, encourage, pray for, and minister to one another. God still meets people when they gather in faith. He meets people carrying anxiety, depression, doubt, and burdens they cannot carry alone. The challenge is not only to come expecting an encounter with God, but also to bring others into the meeting place where His presence is transforming lives. In this powerful message, “RAISE THE STANDARD,” we confront the danger of becoming casual with the things of God. Every church carries a divine vision, and when that vision is lost or neglected, the culture begins to drift—losing honor, engagement, expectation, and spiritual fire. This sermon is a burden-filled call back to alignment: alignment in spirit, vision, honor, and responsibility. It challenges believers to move from being spectators to active contributors in the house of God. God is calling His church back to focus, back to hunger, back to excellence, and back to fire—with order. Not religion, not chaos—but a unified, empowered people who carry the vision together. This is a wake-up call to reengage, reconnect, and rebuild the culture of God's house.

Ecclesiastes peels back the illusion of a full life without God, testing the usual suspects like money, power, pleasure, and even religion. In chapter 5, the spotlight turns to worship, where Solomon calls for reverence over routine. Entering God's presence isn't a casual stroll but sacred ground that invites humility, honesty, and awe. True worship isn't performance for others but a heart posture that recognizes who God is, echoed in the lives of figures like David, Isaiah, and Paul, who approached God with brokenness and deep reverence. Listening and speaking become the twin gates of worship. Ears are meant to be tuned for God's voice, not dulled by distraction or empty ritual, while mouths must resist careless words and transactional vows. Scripture presses for integrity where life and worship align, not a split existence. At the center stands the fear of the Lord, a steady compass that brings clarity, shapes character, and softens the heart. When that reverence takes root, even our words begin to change, shifting from sparks that burn to embers that warm and give life.

The prophet Jeremiah would like a word with prophets and leaders of today. Leaders today want to be adored and admired instead of leading the people according to God's word. Hence ruin began at the sanctuary due to preachers preferring the company of errant politicians who violate children, and endorsing them bringing them into the sanctuary , making it seem that God endorses malfeasance. Hence the judgement will begin at the House of God. Jeremiah 25:26-28 (NKJV)
Welcome to "The Rip" a new series we are doing on I Like Birds where we rip into the biggest headlines, viral stories, and cultural moments that need to be spotlighted in a biblical perspective. Join us for the very first episode of "The Rip" as we examine recent investigations by Mike Winger involving allegations tied to Shawn Bolz, Todd White, and leadership accountability within Bethel Church, through the lens of Luke 8:17 and 1 Peter 4:17.We then shift to cultural exposure surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein massive document releases, discussing public figures mentioned, such as Bill Gates, Jay-Z, Harvey Weinstein, Pusha T, Prince Andrew, and Brett Ratner. The conversation continues with faith entering the mainstream through moments involving Nicki Minaj, Jelly Roll, Brandon Lake, and reflections on the cost of public faith, especially as we saw at the Grammys. We close by addressing Scripture, celebrity, and true surrender through LeBron James, emphasizing that the Bible is not a quote for motivation but a call to follow Jesus as Lord. We are praying for Lebron, Kanye, and Justin Bieber, as this is a unique opportunity to choose life over darkness. Amos 7 turns the spotlight fully inward: God measures His own people, not the pagans first. Pastor Marco explains why judgment begins in the house of God and how spiritual leadership, worship, and public religion can become corrupted while still claiming God's name. As Amos faces resistance for telling the truth, this chapter exposes the ongoing conflict between faithful preaching and a culture that demands comforting lies. The message is both warning and mercy—God confronts His people because He is holy, and because repentance is still possible while the warning is still being spoken.

Fr. Mike encourages us not to be discouraged about the small things happening in our lives, because just as we see through Zechariah's visions, God takes small things and turns them into great triumphs. He also touches on the dedication of Israel to rebuild the temple, and the connection between the crowing of Joshua and the crowning of Christ the King. Today's readings are Ezra 5-6, Zechariah 4-6, and Proverbs 20:8-11. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear.
