A whirlwind tour of automotive chaos: skepticism toward bold self-driving claims and cherry-picked safety stats, a Tesla crash into a California home, and BYD promising to cover liability when its driver-assist is used “properly.” The discussion also torches rosy “facts” from the autonomous trucking lobby, argues drunk-driving prevention tech isn't a privacy apocalypse, and flags “zero-gravity” seats as a potential safety risk. When your circumstances spiral out of your control, do you let your emotions spiral with them, or do you choose a different path? In this episode of Off Script, Carl joins Neil to dive into the first chapter of Philippians. They unpack the context behind Paul's letter, written while chained inside a prison cell, and how his circumstances didn't stop him from overflowing with joy. The conversation explores why we often confuse the endless chase for pleasure (dopamine) with the lasting gift of true joy (serotonin). Carl breaks down the three traps we fall into when the future is uncertain and how we can respond. The Challenge This week, look at the areas in your life where your future feels uncertain or chaotic. Instead of sliding into victimhood, playing it safe, or getting stuck, choose to take "one step". Pick one practical area, whether it's doubling down on gratitude, fighting the spiritual battle, living on mission, or leaning into your crew, and take that single step toward choosing joy today. Hosts: Neil Gregory and Carl Kuhl What We Discuss Kicking off our new sermon series on the book of Philippians and the central theme of joy The historical context of Paul writing the letter to the Philippians while literally chained inside a prison cell Chasing dopamine versus chasing serotonin: Distinguishing between temporary pleasure and lasting biblical joy Asking the filtering question: "If you were to chase a vice this week to numb yourself, what would that vice be?" How good things become destructive things when we turn them into "ultimate things" The three distinct traps we fall into when the future is uncertain: getting stuck, playing it safe, and choosing victimhood Misplaced sympathy and the epidemic of adopting a victim mentality instead of taking personal responsibility Henry Cloud's concept of being "ridiculously in charge" of your own life, choices, and reactions The two ultimate things you can always control in any given situation: your actions and your attitude About Southland Christian Church Southland is one church meeting in multiple locations across central Kentucky. Sometimes the smallest misplaced thing can stir up the biggest reminder. A set of keys on a walking path, a phone left behind in a restroom, or eight tiny screws tucked away in a "safe place" can all feel like inconveniences at first. But I've been thinking about how these moments also invite us to slow down, pay attention, and notice what life may be trying to show us. After my recent move, I found myself searching for the antique screws that hold my grandparents' dining room table together. I knew I had put them somewhere special, but of course, that special place escaped me when I needed them most. What started as a frustrating search turned into motivation, resilience, prayer, laughter, and a deeper commitment to organize my life with more intention. In today's Wise Walk, we're looking at what we can gain from what feels misplaced and how we can rewrite the story from loss into growth. When you misplace an item in your life, can you chuckle, reframe the narrative, and consider how it might benefit you? How might misplacing an item actually be good for you on some level? What surfaces for you when you think about misplaced items? When you find someone else's misplaced item, how are you able to support that stranger, unknown person, or someone in your life? How can we heighten our awareness of the ways misplaced items might serve a greater purpose for us and for others? As you take yourself on a Wise Walk and reflect on the misplaced items in your life, what stands out as a hidden gift in the experience? How has a misplaced item motivated you or improved your organization for the future? How has misplacing something helped you slow down and recognize that you may be tired or carrying too many things at once? How can you slow down so the pattern of misplacing things does not repeat itself? If you misplace something today or in the future, how can you see it as a lesson, a gift, or an opportunity for growth? How can you rewrite the narrative and focus on what you gained, not just what you lost? What in your life feels like you gained more than you lost, even though you went through a temporary struggle? When you found something you thought was lost, did you feel relieved, giddy, or reassured that it was not gone forever? How can you give yourself credit for being resilient, staying motivated, and learning from the experience? How can you improve your organization or habits so that the same type of situation does not happen again? We expand when we misplace things, and we have to rise to the occasion. I would love to hear what you took away from today's episode. I would love to hear what is coming in and out of your life and how you are growing more resilient. Thank you so much for listening.Thank you for being such a support to this community, the Striders community. I am grateful for each and every Thursday and going on these Wise Walks with you. In this episode: [02:44] I've recently moved, and there are so many things that I've accidentally misplaced from putting them in a "safe place". [03:58] I put the screws to my grandparents' table in a "safe place". Not being able to find them became very stressful. [04:31] Looking for antique screws gave me motivation to go through everything. [05:41] It was just a matter of time, energy, intention, and effort. Knowing this helped me move through and unpack everything. [06:03] I benefited from going through boxes and bins much faster than I normally would have, and I've taken a vow to be more organized in the future. [07:17] I love how we can reframe the narrative when things happen. [09:06] In life, we misplace things, whether we find them again or not, it's still an opportunity to reframe the narrative. [10:33] The great news is that I found the screws. Of course, they were in the last bin. [11:16] This gift of being highly motivated helped me get through a lot of boxes and bins. [13:50] We learn more from our mistakes than we do from our successes, because we expand when we misplace things or when things don't go as planned. Memorable Quotes: "We expand when we misplace things, we expand when we make a mistake, we expand when things don't go the way we hope." - Mary Tess "This theme of misplacing things is connecting me to things that are more meaningful, that are more important for my growth at this moment." - Mary Tess "Hopefully, we gain more than we lost in the moment, and we can reframe the narrative in our life so that we can see that and appreciate it." - Mary Tess Links and Resources: Mary Tess Rooney Email Heart Value Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram

Putting all your faith in the algorithm feels great when you go viral... until that social platform changes the rules and your reach disappears overnight. In this episode, we talk about the danger of building your creative business on rented land. Social media can be useful, but it should not be your home base, your only audience channel, or the thing that decides whether your business gets seen. You'll learn how to use platforms as discovery tools while building assets you actually own: an email list, a community, a podcast, a newsletter, or a simple content ecosystem that moves people closer to you instead of keeping them trapped in the scroll. The platform's job is to serve the platform. This powerful exploration of Palm Sunday by Assistant Pastor Dillon Meadway on Sunday, May 3rd 2026 challenges us to examine why we truly seek God. Drawing from Matthew 21, Mark 11, Luke 19, and John 12, we're confronted with a sobering reality: the crowds who welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem with palm branches and shouts of 'Hosanna' were looking for the wrong kind of salvation. They saw the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9-10 being fulfilled before their eyes—a king riding humbly on a donkey, bringing peace—yet they missed the eternal significance because they were fixated on temporal relief from Roman oppression. The tragedy wasn't their blindness, but their misplaced desire. They wanted miracles, entertainment, national restoration, and physical comfort rather than knowing God intimately. This message cuts to the heart of our own faith journey: Are we following Jesus for what He can do for us, or for who He is? The symbolism runs deep—as the Jewish people cleaned leaven from their homes during Passover week (representing pride, sin, and distraction), Jesus entered to cleanse the temple and ultimately offer Himself as the spotless Lamb. When we become so obsessed with God's hand that we miss His face, we risk the same spiritual blindness that caused Jesus to weep over Jerusalem. The call is clear: shift from seeking signs and wonders to seeking the One who performs them, because knowing Emmanuel—God with us—is the true relief our souls desperately need.

Tamny explores the misplaced reliance on expert opinion, arguing that the crisis began when epidemiologists became the "leaders of the economy." Comparing this to the 1980s AIDS scare, he notes that early expert predictions are often "first drafts" that can be incorrect. He contrasts 2020 with the 1968 "Hong Kong Flu," which resulted in 100,000 Americandeaths — the equivalent of 250,000 today — but saw no lockdowns, positing that society locked down in 2020 not because it had to, but because technology like Zoom allowed an "elite" class to stay home while others delivered their food. We juggle a sick kid, zero sleep, and a late-night recording, then land on the one story we promised: how Good Friday and Easter Sunday reshaped our faith. We talk about grief after suicide loss, the power of being prayed over, and why hope only works when it's placed somewhere solid. • recording on fumes after a rough sick-day spiral • why we commit to Good Friday and Easter services • feeling drawn to church and finally feeling at home • parenting pressure when there's no childcare • choosing respect for others when a kid can't sit still • the unexpected impact of “Good job, Dad” • giving our life to God through prayer • why being prayed over feels like a release • Easter baptisms and the power of testimony • misplaced hope as a driver of anxiety and depression • grief anniversaries and finding a healing loop If you found value in today's show please return the favor and leave a positive review and share it with someone important to you! https://www.sharethestrugglepodcast.com/reviews/new/Find all you need to know about the show https://www.sharethestrugglepodcast.com/Official Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100077724159859Join the 2% of Americans that Buy American and support American Together we can bring back American Manufacturing https://www.loudproudamerican.shop/Loud Proud American Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LoudproudamericanLoud Proud American Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/loud_proud_american/Loud Proud American TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@loud_proud_americanLoud Proud American YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmYQtOt6KVURuySWYQ2GWtwThank you for Supporting My American Dream!

What happens when your confidence is in the wrong place? In this message from our Invitation to Joy series through the book of Philippians, we explore Philippians 3:1–3 and the danger of misplaced spiritual confidence. The Apostle Paul warns the early church—and us—that trusting in religious performance instead of Christ always steals our joy. When we add anything to Jesus for our standing before God, we subtract from the freedom and joy He offers. Paul reveals that true belonging to God isn't marked by external rituals but by heart transformation through the Holy Spirit. This sermon unpacks what it means to "boast in Christ" practically by centering our days around Jesus through morning prayer, Scripture, and the ancient practice of the Prayer of Examen. Whether you're navigating a hard season or simply feeling the pressure to perform, this message is a reminder that confidence in the flesh creates pressure, but confidence in Christ creates joy.0:00 Misplaced confidence2:35 Philippians 3:1–33:53 Repetition is protection5:19 Circumcision and the covenant6:37 Jesus plus nothing equals everything7:35 Religion trusts in performance8:49 God cares about the heart, not the outside11:04 The flesh vs. the Spirit12:32 True worship is empowered by the Holy Spirit13:39 Heart circumcision15:27 The simplest prayer17:18 The Spirit transforms, the flesh performs18:40 What it means to boast in Christ20:05 Center your day around Jesus22:34 A simple daily rhythm: prayer, Scripture, journal23:38 The Prayer of Examen25:26 Rejoicing in the Lord through hard seasons27:29 Confidence in Christ produces unshakable joy28:19 Closing prayerSupport the showMade a decision to follow Jesus? Jesus teaches that the first will be last, and the last first. He also teaches that he who would be great must become a servant. To be meek and mild therefore seems like the goal we should all aspire to. And this is true! But sometimes our very pursuit of humility can be hijacked by pride and turned into just one more means of gratifying our pride. Humility can be falsified, and true humility may look far more boisterous and assertive than we imagine.
Aaron measured his career progress by the results of his annual reviews. His hard work throughout the year all felt worth it when he read what his boss wrote in the year-end assessment. Aaron treasured the feedback from his boss, both for the praise he would receive, but also because that praise generally translated to ... In this teaching from Luke 18, Pastor Landon walks through Jesus' prediction of His suffering and the healing of blind Bartimaeus near Jericho. Though the disciples had walked closely with Jesus, they still struggled to understand His clear words about the cross. Their spiritual blindness reminds us that proximity to Jesus does not automatically mean clarity. Meanwhile, a blind beggar sees what others miss — that Jesus is the Son of David, the promised Messiah. When Bartimaeus cries out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me,” the crowd tries to silence him. But faith persists. Jesus stops. He listens. He restores the man's sight. This teaching explores: • Spiritual blindness from Genesis to the Gospels • How Satan blinds minds from seeing the gospel (2 Corinthians 4) • Blind spots in every season of life • Identity confusion in today's culture • Misplaced hope in politics, relationships, and self • The humility required to cry out for mercy • Why Jesus' healings point toward the coming resurrection The deepest blindness is not cultural or political — it is failing to see Christ clearly. Like Bartimaeus, we are invited to pray: “Lord, have mercy on me.” “Lord, let me receive my sight.” When Jesus gives sight, the response is simple: he followed Him. May Christ Himself be our peace. In a world engineered for distraction, yoga becomes the deliberate practice of training the mind to place its attention where meaning, clarity, and love actually grow. Raghunath and Kaustubha explore attention as the most valuable thing we possess — and the one thing modern culture constantly hijacks. Drawing from Simone Weil's insight that attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity, and the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam's metaphor of glowworms shining when real stars are covered, this episode exposes how noise replaces wisdom, visibility replaces value, and misplaced attention quietly shapes our consciousness — while bhakti offers a radical way to reclaim it. ******************************************************************** LOVE THE PODCAST?
