Sean and Lucy are joined by journalist Max [von] Feldman for the pre-hiatus/end of season wrap party in which we participate in the dissection of Tobe Hooper's Lifeforce and the career and mind of the author of its source material: Colin Wilson
The Surgeons team dissect and discuss Tobe Hooper's follow up to Poltergeist, a space vampire flick called Lifeforce.
The guys have improved Skyrim by becoming the best Blacksmith in all of Tamriel - and consider what makes good melee combat in both Elder Scrolls and games like Condemned. Jump scares in first person survival horror games also get discussed, including Matt's harrowing tales of Alien Isolation and Doom 3. Finally, we touch on Bioshock Infinite's infamous quiet scare - you know the one. We still get chilly thinking about it. This week's focus is of course Tobe Hooper's Lifeforce, a B Movie with an A budget - gloriously batshit. From the doomed space mission's discovery of a space artichoke filled with a set of really nice crystals, to the final sex battle of St. Paul's Cathedral... sorry... we just never thought we'd write a sentence that bizarre. Doctors with swords, who kill in the old way. Patrick Stewart's first on-screen kiss. Violent bloody vomiting scenes. TITTLES! This movie has got it all, and we can't help but revel in it all. Still, there's time to touch on Yakuza 6 and have a giggle with pronunciations. We'd try to explain Caine, but we're IN LOVE ON A LEVEL YOU WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND. Welcome back to The Horror 101 Show. On this 55th podcast we will be covering another new film by director Jeremy Saulnier. Its Sir Patrick Stewart in his first horror movie since Tobe Hooper's Lifeforce. We couldn't believe Saulnier got him to play a racist homicidal Nazi Skinhead. And he kills the performance. This will be one of the last films we get from the recently deceased Anton Yelchin. This is a movie about survival in its most brutal form. We loved it. Join us as we give the horror 101 treatment to Green Room. We'll discuss our first flame mail that we received after our last show. It took 5 years before a listener took the time to shit on us. Listen to what pissed them off so much. And our own Nood will be giving her first ever review on horror literature from author N.L. Munn. Its another show you're not going to want to miss. Join us for Green Room! Don't eat the Furry Tomatoes Turns out as something of an Arrow Special this week. Starting with classic Western the Ox-bow Incident before going full cult with Jack Hill's the Swinging Cheerleaders, unknown 80s slasher Satan's Blade and finishing with creature feature parody with return of the killer tomatoes. Our film of the week another director lottery title with Tobe Hooper's Lifeforce.
On the third episode of our podcast, we cover a Cannon classic, TOBE HOOPER'S LIFEFORCE! We're available on itunes, stitcher, and tunein! Special thanks to ZACH GROOTEN for this week's artwork!
Upon hitting double digits I take a look at the last few busy weeks, discuss Tobe Hooper's "Lifeforce" and touch upon a local urban legend from back in the day.
