Have you ever wondered what would happen if "Rambo" met "Michael Clayton"? Tune in as we unravel the brilliance of Jeremy Saulnier's latest thriller "Rebel Ridge." With riveting performances by Aaron Pierre and Don Johnson, we dissect the film's intricate themes of asset forfeiture, rural corruption, and its thrilling action sequences. This episode isn't just a review; it's an exploration of Saulnier's meticulous filmmaking and his knack for creating gritty, immersive worlds. We draw intriguing comparisons between "Rebel Ridge" and Saulnier's earlier works like "Green Room" and "Blue Ruin," highlighting his commitment to adult-oriented narratives. Our conversation extends to the visceral impact of films like "Titane" and the thought-provoking body horror of "The Substance." We debate the provocative themes of female representation, particularly in the context of Hollywood's unrealistic beauty standards and the intense influence of social media culture. By exploring the transformative performances of actors like Margaret Qualley and Demi Moore, we provide a deep dive into how these films challenge societal norms and evoke strong emotional responses. This episode is packed with personal anecdotes and heartfelt reflections on how these films resonate with us and the broader audience. As we gear up for the upcoming Gig Harbor and Tacoma Film Festivals, we share our enthusiasm for the premieres, Q&A sessions, and local film showcases that make these events so special. Hello friends! We're back from the picture show—in this case, Netflix—to discuss the brand new Jeremy Saulnier action-thriller Rebel Ridge. We here at the GenreCast are big fans of Saulnier's previous efforts, and Dalton has been champing at the bit to talk about it. So, he called in some good friends from The Cinematic Schematic: Caleb Masters and Laron Chapman. Is this new picture, streaming exclusively on Netflix, worth your time? Dalton, Caleb, and Laron parse it out in this Rebel Ridge review. If you haven't yet, make sure you check out The Cinematic Schematic from The Cinematropolis for more movie reviews, features, and much more!
Against all better judgment, David refuses to give up on Ian!Yes, the guys are back to review another new movie that the persistent and persuasive Mr. Fowlie hopes will make a believer out of our resident sourpuss.Unfortunately, the film at hand is the latest Netflix actioner, Rebel Ridge! Aaron Pierre stars as a stoic martial arts badass whose bike trip through Redneckville becomes a week-long gauntlet of extortion, corruption, revenge, and more tough-guy glowering than a thousand furrowed brows. It's not surprising that Ian didn't respond to this one; what is shocking is that Rebel Ridge was directed by one of his favorite filmmakers, Jeremy Saulnier Blue Ruin, Green Room). The new movie represents a departure for the indie visionary, whose blood-drenched, off-the-wall crime operas made him one of the new century's most exciting young voices. Comparatively squeaky clean in its presentation, Rebel Ridge is so lacking in Saulnier's hallmarks as to be more of a dare than a sensical film.Watch as the guys talk Rambo, rural Internet, "factoid screenwriting", and the inherent magical properties of coconut water!Subscribe, like, and comment to the Kicking the Seat YouTube channel, and check out kickseat.com for multiple movie podcasts each week!Show LinksWatch the Rebel Ridge trailer.Follow David Fowlie's film criticism at Keeping It Reel.Plus! This week on End Credits we're going to fight the power! Get ready for another mashing of action and social justice as a former Marine hands out a lesson in justice in unexpected ways in Rebel Ridge on Netflix. For the rest of the show, we're going to tackle something funnier, and goofier, a fellow Canadian who made a very big splash 30 years ago with three comedic hits! This Wednesday, September 18, at 3 pm, Adam A. Donaldson and Peter Salmon will discuss: Jim Class Hero. Thirty years ago, Jim Carrey went from second banana on In Living Color to one of the biggest movie starts in Hollywood with a hattrick of big comedy hits. This week, we will revisit Ace Venture: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber and we will look at the ways they still hold up, the ways these films feel dated now, and why Carrey ended up riding them to become a superstar and Hollywood's first $20 million man! REVIEW: Rebel Ridge (2024). You may have heard of civil asset forfeiture, or you may have seen the episode of Last Week Tonight about it. For his new movie, director Jeremy Saulnier decided to make this American civil rights issue his focus by telling the story of a former Marine who comes to small Louisiana town to bail out his cousin only to have the local cops seize the bail money. What follows is a tried and true movie formula: a stranger rides into town and cleans up corruption, but do you think Green Room director Saulnier would so something that straight forward? End Credits is on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca Wednesday at 3 pm.
Jeremy Saulnier's REBEL RIDGE puts a distinctly 2020s spin on the one-man army formula established in the era-defining ‘80s action hit FIRST BLOOD, resulting in a film with more nuance, less firepower, and equal amounts of ass-kicking. We parse that equation a bit more in-depth in our spoiler-light discussion of REBEL RIDGE, before bringing back FIRST BLOOD to see how the decades between the two films shape their respective ideas about escalation of force, small-town policing, and genre politics. And for Your Next Picture Show, we offer a quick-hit ranking of Saulnier's filmography to date. Please share your comments, thoughts, and questions about FIRST BLOOD, REBEL RIDGE, and anything else in the world of film by sending an email or voice memo to comments@nextpictureshow.net, or leaving a short voicemail at (773) 234-9730. Director Jeremy Saulnier follows up his brutal downers of Green Room and Hold the Dark with a politically angry new action thriller. With a star-making turn from actor Aaron Pierre, Rebel Ridge rides into the pantheon of contemporary suspense in ways that might be surprising, especially if you're expecting more sanguine violence from Saulnier. We discuss all the ways Rebel Ridge subverts your typical action tropes to deliver something fresh.
David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer, Dune, The Suicide Squad) spiller værten, der må håndtere overnaturlige hændelser, mens showet kører.

Jeremy Saulnier has done it all with Rebel Ridge. It's an action thriller Netflix hit... but also a smart indictment of a law enforcement policy almost everyone hates. And a movie for grown-ups. And a win for the kind of mid-budget movies that aren't supposed to be hits any more. But as we talk about Saulnier's rise as a filmmaker, we see that he's very much paid his dues in the micro-budget indie world. Here is Jeremy Saulnier's very frank 2014 piece on the making of his breakthrough film, Blue Ruin. Jeremy Saulnier is one of the most exciting filmmakers working today. Unfortunately, it's been quite a while since we've seen some of his work. Thankfully, that's about to change as Netflix readies the release of his latest feature, “Rebel Ridge.” But it wasn't smooth sailing to get to this point. And in this episode of The Playlist Podcast, we talk to Saulnier about the long journey it took for “Rebel Ridge” to get released. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/support

This week on The ADHD Podcast, Pete and Nikki sit down with Dr. Celine Saulnier, a specialist in diagnostic assessment and research on autism spectrum disorders. The conversation delves into the complex relationship between ADHD and autism, shedding light on the often misunderstood overlap between these two neurodevelopmental conditions.Dr. Saulnier explains the evolving diagnostic criteria for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and how changes in the DSM-5 have allowed for the co-occurring diagnosis of ADHD and autism. She explores the similarities and differences between the two conditions, including the shared challenges with executive functioning and the distinct underlying causes of apparently similar behaviors. The discussion also touches on the unique challenges faced by females with autism, who often fly under the diagnostic radar due to their ability to mask or camouflage their symptoms. Dr. Saulnier emphasizes the importance of comprehensive evaluations by clinicians with expertise in both ADHD and autism to ensure accurate diagnoses and appropriate treatment plans. They navigate the nuances of neurodiversity, the divide within the autism community, and the need for increased awareness and acceptance of neurodiverse individuals.
