Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 There are four main passages in the New Testament in which spiritual gifts are mentioned: Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 28-31; Ephesians 4:7-16; 1 Peter 4:10,11. The lists are somewhat different … they are different in number and different in the gifts listed. That probably means that the lists are not meant to be exhaustive. They are general categories into which specific abilities can be placed. They are general enough that we can find ourselves in one or more of the categories. We could define a spiritual gift as a God-given ability or capacity, granted for service to Him in the church. A spiritual gift is not a natural ability, like being strong or being smart. These abilities are also God-given, but spiritual gifts are given specifically with a view for ministry to others in the church of God. The emphasis in our passage is on the diversity of these gifts, on one hand, and the unity of the body of Christ, on the other hand. Paul's metaphor here (1 Cor 12:12), which is one of his favorite images of the church, is to say that the church is like a body. It functions as one unit, but with all kinds of differing parts. And the different functions result not from the differences we have of personality and background and education, but from the different capacities that the Holy Spirit, Himself, has worked in us. "To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good" (1 Cor 12:7). Christ has given each of us a very specific gift and if we are all not using our gifts, then someone in the church is missing the blessing Jesus has intended for us to bring. And if we are not using our gifts, we are missing the wonder and joy and meaning of fulfilling the very task for which we are on this earth … to honor Christ by serving in His kingdom.
Unity is the hallmark characteristic of citizens in God's Kingdom. In this message, Pastor Chaise Logan echoes Paul's message to the church at Philippi and urges us to pursue greater unity in the body.

105 – Is it possible to have unity in the body of Christ?Have you ever wondered why there are so many different Christian denominations? And why isn't there more unity in the body of Christ? In doing a little research for this episode, I found estimates ranging from 1,200 up to about 40,000 different Christian denominations. If we all believe in Jesus, why can't we agree on everything else? Why is the Church divided? If you want to know how, study history. I think the more important question to ask is: Why does this happen? Why does it still happen? In this week's episode, I talk about two basic reasons: It's about the difference your perspective can make on how you see the Bible. And the filter or lens we look through also changes what we see and believe. Paul metaphorically describes the church as "the body of Christ"Just as each part of the human body has a different place and function that coordinates and contributes to the whole, so in the body of Christ, all believers have a unique place and a function that no one else can fill, different gifts, talents, and abilities. Paul encourages all of us to work together in harmony and appreciate how all the different gifts work together as a whole.Maybe you're in a church that is the very right hand in the body of Christ. That doesn't mean that everyone else has to be just like you. But isn't that how many Christians think? They know they are sincere Christians and falsely assume everyone must be just like them in order to be Christian. They have defined "Christian" as being the right hand. They even have their suspicions of the left hand: "I mean really, they have everything backwards."And too bad for Christians in the left foot of the body of Christ. The right hand Christians think they have to convert the left foot Christians to be just like them.Christian unityBut the body of Christ is not and cannot be a giant right hand. There are many members or parts and each has a unique place, perspective, and function. Each has something different to offer to the whole that no one else can. Do you really want unity in the body of Christ if it means letting each member of the body of Christ be themselves? Or do you still want everyone to be just like you?We need to let go of our personal perspectives and opinions and see things from Christ's perspective. And we have to let the Holy Spirit wash our mental and spiritual “kitchen windows” that we don't even realize are dirty. When we do this, we will be able to say with Paul, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: [and we could add neither protestant or catholic, fundamentalist, evangelical, or liberal,] for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." 033 – This just might be a little controversial...What did Paul really mean when he wrote, "Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost?" (1 Corinthians 6:19 KJV)In this episode, I get into some nitty-gritty grammar and a tiny little detail most Bible translations miss that completely change the meaning of this favorite verse. It all has to do with what the words "you" and "thou" mean. There is something much grander going on in this verse than most Christians realize. Paul wants us to see the big picture instead of just thinking of our own individual faith. What if everyone who believes in Jesus could appreciate all other believers instead of judging and condemning them because of differences of doctrine? All too quickly we start adding doctrines and theological demands on what it means to be a Christian. What a difference it would make if all believers would respect and value all other believers, regardless of doctrinal differences? The world would feel the difference overnight. Are you ready for a little Bible controversy? Please listen to this episode. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the subject. My guest this week on The World We Live In is Pastor Mark Grothe. We discuss the defeat of HB 51. We feel UNITY in the Body of Christ made a huge difference, unity like never before in the Pro-Life movement in New Mexico. I am pictured with Pastor Mark and his lovely wife Rebecca It is a glorious day in New Mexico!!! The Body of Christ came together and defeated this UnGodly legislation! I am sorry, but I have to use a capital G in unGodly, because that is just the way I am made! GOD sets the standards we are to live by, not us. From our Dear Friend Kathy in ABQ: I’m so encouraged by the defeat of HB51. NM has had national attention for so many bad things. This is evidence of Gods powerful mercy, grace and glory in the face of evil. HB 51 Defeated, Governor Disappointed, Dems Divided Thank you to Ethel Maharg and Elisa Martinez for these reports! PTL! I have never seen such unity in the Body of Christ in New Mexico!!! PTL!!! Ethel and Elisa, plus Vincent Torres of Family Policy Alliance of New Mexico and New Mexico Watchman Jose Vasquez are my heroes of faith. Many, many others have stood in the gap for God and His babies, for this I am so ever grateful. I have covered the abortion issue in New Mexico for so many years, what made the difference this year to me, is UNITY IN THE BODY OF CHRIST!!! FASTING AND PRAYING, UNITY IS SUCH A KEY!!! ALL FOR GOD!!!! Bill Ruhl The Lord said, “Gather the people together, seek Me, and pray. Then position yourselves and watch…” The battle is the Lord’s. HB 51 defeated today! Well done NM!!! Well done!!! Pastor Bill is Vice Chairman of FGGAM!
An interview with Dan Davis and his son, Jeff. Dan is a Christian leader in Austin, TX. He was a business executive who was called to be a pastor.Dan planted a church and became not only a pastor, but a visionary, mentor and friend to other Christian leaders and worked tirelessly to bring the Body of Christ together in the Austin area and much, much more.
Listen as Pastor Mark shares that in the kingdom of God there's no room for speaking our mind and putting others in their place because it's damaging to the unity that God himself by the Spirit is working to develop.
