When you read the Old Testament, especially the part about all the sacrifices of lambs and bulls, you might wonder if this is still important to know about. If so, you'll be fascinated by the many ways Pastor Dan shows today that everything in the Old Testament in some way points to Jesus. Yes, there were a tremendous number of sacrifices, and yet they all point to God's final sacrifice of His Son. The sacrifice of Jesus is a reminder of your sin, your need, His sacrifice, and your forgiveness.
An interesting question arose for Moses when he was preparing to divide up the Promised Land. Some women came to him, daughters of a father with no sons. And they pointed out that Moses's plan would give them no inheritance to carry on their father's name. Today, Pastor Dan notes that there was nothing written in the Law to cover this situation. So what did Moses do? He inquired of the Lord. God's Word is the rule of your life. But not everything is spelled out. That's when you need to ask for His wisdom.

If you're an athlete, such as a baseball player or a marathon runner, you know how important it is to train. You want to do everything you can to make yourself stronger for your sport and avoid everything that will make you weaker. Today, Pastor Dan shows that training in godliness must be approached in that same way. When you're focused on living for Christ, you're strengthening your faith and your spiritual life. And by avoiding sin, you're saying “no” to those things that will injure you spiritually.
Acts 2:1-21 - A Calvary Perspective - Pastor Dan PlourdeMESSAGE NOTES:http://www.calvaryword.com/Acts2026/a1445.pdf
Pastor Dan kicks off our Lenten series, which will take us through some key events in the Old Testament that demonstrate that the Crucifixion and Resurrection weren't just accidents of history; they were part of God's plan to restore and redeem.
Pastor Dan taught that God's plan of salvation through Christ was decreed before time began—hidden from human wisdom but revealed through the Spirit in Scripture. He emphasized that salvation cannot be discovered by human effort but only received by faith, urging believers to spend time in God's Word to know His wisdom and respond to the gospel. #FaithAlone #GodsDecree #HiddenWisdom #GospelTruth #SavedByGrace #Scripture #HolySpirit #ChristCentered #CalvaryTilton
It's interesting to note that when God commanded Moses to take a census of the nation of Israel – twice, it was calculated by counting the men aged twenty and above. Today, Pastor Dan draws out an insight from this: In God's design, there are children, and there are adults. If you're a young person living at home, God's call upon you is to learn from your godly parents and leaders while you can. Then, as an adult, your responsibility is to take ownership of your own relationship with God.
In this Ash Wednesday message, Pastor Dan talks about the power of the cross and the forgiveness of our sin. Scripture reading: Mark 14:3-9.
Reading the Old Testament, you can find lots of history about God and how He deals with people. And when you do that, it could be just a bunch of interesting facts. Or, it could be more. Today, Pastor Dan unpacks an incident where Phineas* takes care of a sin problem within the camp of Israel. But it's not just a history lesson. It points to Jesus Christ, Who is the sin solution for all people today who will accept Him. Your faith in Christ comes from a long lineage of God's history. Hold to it gratefully and diligently.
As Christians, we like to remind ourselves that “the war has already been won”. And that's true, praise God! But today, Pastor Dan reminds us that we're still in daily battles with the enemy of God. God will never stop loving you and pursuing you. But you have the choice every day, in every situation, whether to pursue God and His holiness, or to seek your own desires and interests. That's why it's important to stay focused on God, and not to allow your eyes to be overly dazzled by this world.
There was a pagan sorcerer in the Old Testament named Balaam. And he was hired by a man named Balak to curse the people of Israel. But whenever Balaam tried to curse God's people, God Himself intervened and prevented him from doing so. Today, Pastor Dan shows how this principle is carried forward into the New Testament. God will never forsake you. He'll never stop caring for you. But he does allow you the choice, on a daily and moment-by-moment basis, whether or not to follow Him.

Acts 19:28-41 | 02.15.2026
In this final message based on Frank Viola's "Hang On, Let Go: What to Do When Your Dreams Are Shattered and Life Is Falling Apart" (Carol Stream, IL: Tyndale Momentum, 2021) Pastor Dan reminds us the crisis you're walking through isn't meant to destroy you—it's meant to transform you. God isn't trying to get you back to "normal." Normal is what got you here. He's the Architect of your crisis, and He's been working toward an "End Result" all along: making Jesus first in every area of your life. Romans 8:28-30 isn't just a comfort verse—it's your roadmap. The "good" God is working toward isn't a better job or easier circumstances. It's conforming you to the image of His Son. Version 1.0 of you relied on self-control and panic. Version 2.0 reflects the character and peace of Jesus. You can't move forward while clutching the past. Philippians 3:13-14 calls us to forget what lies behind and strain toward what's ahead. The prize isn't a problem-free life—it's Christ in you, the hope of glory. This week, ask yourself: "If Jesus is truly first in this situation, what's my very next move?"
It's truly amazing to read some of the prophecies in the Old Testament, and to understand their meanings. Today, Pastor Dan explains a prophecy made by a pagan sorcerer named Balaam*. Through this man, God spoke a prophecy of a star, representing deity, and a scepter, representing the King, coming from Israel. Have you noticed the stars in Jewish symbolism? Do you remember what guided the magi from the East? This prophecy is about Jesus the Messiah: your God and your King.

Pastor Dan emphasized that true faith is not produced by human wisdom, personality, or persuasive speech, but by the power of the Holy Spirit working through the simple message of Christ crucified. Using Paul's example, he showed that God often works through weakness so that believers place their confidence fully in Him, leading us to live with humility and total dependence on God rather than ourselves. #DependenceOnGod #ChristCrucified #PowerOfTheSpirit #FaithNotWisdom #BiblicalPreaching #Humility
Have you ever known someone who's making an important decision, and they consult some pretty unusual sources? Maybe the horoscope, maybe a medium, or perhaps they're looking for signs in the stars or their lottery numbers. Today, Pastor Dan says: don't be surprised by that. It's been a practice for ages, to consult the gods by omens and numbers. But that's not the way to consult the Living God. And that's what our man Balaam* will learn in today's message. And that message is a reminder for you too.
Imagine you're on a flight and the captain comes on with some bad news. Or at your job, the announcement comes that your company just got bought. What do people do? Well, according to Pastor Dan, if they're anything like most people, most often, they'll all start praying to all kinds of gods. Today, you'll see how this happened with a character named Balaam*, who was hired to curse Israel. He called on seven gods. But he heard back from One. The question is: which God are you calling on?
Pastor Dan and Adrienne continue their discussion of Frank Viola's Insurgence nook and introduce the idea of “kingdom levers.” Using everyday analogies—light switches, train track switches, wheelbarrows, and anchors—they explain how small, faithful actions and changes in perspective gradually move us from a flesh-centered worldview into the kingdom of Christ. Practical takeaways include changing the narrative, growing in love instead of pride, and choosing faithfulness over dramatic moments as the steady way the kingdom advances.
Do you ever laugh at jokes you don't really find funny, agree with opinions you don't actually share, stay late when you don't need to, dress differently, or act more confident than you feel—just to be liked? It's easy to shape what you say or do to please other people. But God isn't impressed by performance. Today, Pastor Dan tells you that there's nothing you can do to earn God's approval. All you have to do is receive His grace and mercy, freely given to you.
Acts 19:21-27 | 02.08.2026
You've probably heard the phrase, “Give an inch, take a mile.” That's exactly how the enemy works. When you start compromising—telling yourself that certain little things are no big deal, even though you know better—the devil uses that opening to push further. He takes advantage of small compromises and turns them into bigger ones. Today, Pastor Dan reminds you that you can't afford to give the devil even an inch, because if you do, he'll take as much ground as you let him.

It's easy to settle into life's rhythms and get comfortable. Daily routines can lull you into thinking everything's fine and under control. But as one of God's people, you do have an enemy. Pastor Dan reminds you that the devil is real, he hates you, and he wants to do real harm. Yet it's easy to live as if he doesn't exist. Today's message challenges you to ask yourself: Are you staying alert and resisting the enemy, or are you drifting through life unguarded?
Pastor Dan talks about how we can each feel like an outsider, but God pursues us out of his great love for us. Scripture reading: Luke 15:1-7.
On this episode of 2414, Shane and Pastor Dan center the conversation on the comfort and confidence found in the LCMS confession that Jesus Christ is true God and true man. They explore what it means to confess that the eternal Son of God took on real human flesh at the Incarnation, remains both God and man after the resurrection and ascension, and reigns even now for our salvation. The discussion unpacks the communication of attributes, clarifies why the church rejects errors such as adoptionism and subordinationism, and shows how Scripture, the Apostles' Creed, and Luther's Small Catechism safeguard the biblical teaching about who Jesus is and what He has done.Rather than treating doctrine as abstract theory, Shane and Dan emphasize doctrine as clear, life-giving teaching meant to give Christians assurance: only God could bear the sins of the world, and only as man could Christ suffer, die, and rise in our place. This is the heart of our comfort—Jesus chose to save, keeps His promises, and remains “one of us” who understands human suffering.Along the way, they share a few everyday highlights and play a light game featuring songs with U.S. cities in the title, but the focus remains on slowing down, listening well, and speaking clearly about the faith we confess.Want to talk about your faith, share your story, or ask questions on a future episode?Book a recording time with us here:https://outlook.office.com/book/Ge29a5d453add4d478471a0c1bf208af9@stlukes-church.com/?ismsaljsauthenabledDon't forget to continue the conversation at home, in the car, at work, or anywhere you can find someone to talk to! Special Guest Dan Cruz delivers this weeks message, a very personal and emotional sermon based upon when Paul and Silas were chained and in prison at midnight. All hope seemed lost when they began to worship God, knowing that even though they could not see Him, they knew God had not abandoned them and their rescue was at hand.
Special Guest Speaker, Pastor Dan Cruz delivers today's message, 'When Hope Seems Lost'. Pastor Dan gives a very emotional and personal message from Acts 16:25-31 - When Paul and Silas were in chains in prison, at midnight and all seemed lost. They sang out in praise, knowing that God had not abandoned them, and although they could not see it, deliverance was just around the corner.
After teaching us to have the mindset of Christ, Paul turns his focus against false teaching, using strong language to point out that the Jews who rejected Christ were in error. He contrasts circumcision of the heart with the outward ceremony of Judaism. Pastor Dan applies this principle to point out that all religions that reject Christ are anti-christ. The problem with Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Marxism, et al is theological not racial. Repent and believe the gospel! Christ is Lord!
Echo Podcast – Episode 39 “What Does the Kingdom Look Like on a Tuesday?” In this episode of Echo, Adrienne and Pastor Dan move from theology to everyday life as they continue exploring the gospel of the Kingdom. After weeks of clarifying what Jesus actually preached and lingering on the beauty of Christ Himself, the conversation turns practical: What does it mean to live under the reign of Jesus in ordinary places like work, family, and relationships? Drawing from Luke 4 and the Sermon on the Mount, they reflect on how the Kingdom is not a religious program or checklist, but a way of seeing and responding to real life. Rather than adding new pressure, Kingdom life begins with a simple posture of attention—learning to ask, “Jesus, what would Your reign look like here today?” This episode is an invitation to reimagine the everyday as sacred space where God is already at work. No formulas, no quick fixes—just a gentle, hopeful conversation about noticing the nearness of the Kingdom. Different rooms. Different conversations. The same center—Jesus as King.
