Kyle Bonagura joins Sports Sunday to discuss the reason for the number of cancellations in the Pac-12 and the chances of USC or Oregon getting into the CFB Playoff. Also, an update on the Apple Cup cancellation and the potential for Washington-BYU.
Former BYU Athletic Director Val Hale joins Mitch Harper and Matt Baiamonte on Cougar Sports Saturday. Val reminisced about Texas A&M coming to Provo in 1991, which was one of his favorite memories in BYU sports. Mitch mentions the 1999 Washington/BYU game where Chris Hale caught the game-winning TD. This was Val Hale's first game as AD and his sons first game as a true freshman. He says BYU always has the potential to be a Top-25 team, but independence does make it more difficult. He says the big conversation right now is budget for athletic departments. There is a question about season tickets and what potential scholarships could change with spring athletes gaining an additional year of eligibility. With his position in the state government, he says his best guess is the end of August for a time when we can get back to normal. Val Hale says the BYU/Utah game is a big deal and the history of the match-up makes it that much important.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - go in-depth on what they expect to see Saturday in Provo, Utah, as the Washington Huskies play Road Dawgs for the first time this year, and they're doing it in the home of the BYU Cougars. UW beat BYU 35-7 last season, but this game hardly appears that lopsided. For starters, the Cougars have a whole new backfield with Zach Wilson and Ty'Son Williams, but they are also really banged up after starting their season against Utah, at Tennessee, and playing USC this past weekend. They appear bloodied, but unbowed. But what does that mean for Washington's offense? Does it mean they should be able to hold on to the ball longer, move the chains more effectively, stand a better chance of pushing passes downfield? And if BYU tries to take away some of UW's weapons, like Hunter Bryant, can the Huskies control the pace of the game and the field position with an efficient run game? On the other side of the ball, how will UW try and defend Zach Wilson? Will they try and spy him to limit his effectiveness running the ball? Will they try and apply constant pressure in the form of blitzes and using multiple players off the edges to shrink the pocket? Or will they sit back and force Wilson to navigate through the Huskies' secondary? And with the game being in Utah, will the Huskies start to unleash some of their Utah-based players like Sam Taimani, MJ Tafisi, and Puka Nacua? Learn more about your ad choices.
