Text us with topic or guest suggestions!Advisory programs. It seems we either love them – or dread them. The same goes for our students. David and Audrey have encountered a lot of different advisory programs over the years and at various schools, but never one that is as comprehensive and as in tune with all of its stakeholders as the one at the International School of Bangkok. In this show we chatted with Andy Vaughan, Dean of Students at ISB and head architect of their advisory program. Andy is a Kiwi who has been living overseas with his family for the past 20 years teaching and leading in South East Asia. Currently working as the High School Dean of Students at International School Bangkok, Andy was previously the Athletics Director at ISB and in the past has taught Physical Education, Science, Health and Outdoor Education. He is passionate about establishing systems in schools that proactively ensure we support student well being to ensure all students feel like they belong and are cared for.Our guiding question was: “How can schools create effective advisory programs?”Here are some topics covered in this episode:Definition and Purpose of an Advisory ProgramThe Importance and Benefits of Having an Advisory ProgramPossible Settings and Locations for Conducting Advisory SessionsKey Participants in Designing the Advisory ProgramScheduling: When Advisory Sessions Typically OccurInsights and Lessons Learned from Designing and Implementing Advisory ProgramsResources shared in this episode: CASEL for SELRULER Approach for SELGeelong Grammar School - Positive Education/Psychology approach to wellnessMario Platform Wellness@ES - One approach to integrating wellness at the elementary school level Supporting Episodes: The Role of Dean of Students -- A Key Piece of the SEL-Academics Puzzle: Meet Andy Vaughan (Ep 83)Fostering Lasting Change in Schools: Four Factors to Consider, With Jim Reese (Ep 81)Get Well Soon(ish)! Customs and Border Protection has increased deployments of surveillance technology along the northern border over the past five years despite sluggish hiring levels of IT personnel needed to monitor the tech, according to a report by the Government Accountability Office published Thursday. The staffing rate for information systems specialists has remained below target levels for half a decade but the gap has widened since 2023. CBP officials pointed to low pay, a lengthy background investigation process, a limited local applicant pool, high cost of living and minimal career advancement opportunities as drivers of attrition and the inability to fill open positions. GAO conducted the audit over a nearly two-year period, starting in April 2024 and concluding this month. In examining CBP's northern border facilities, the watchdog found that CBP did not have a strategy to address the critical staffing gap. The Department of Health and Human Services made several changes to its IT leadership recently, including the addition of a new acting deputy chief information officer and acting deputy chief AI officer. A webpage listing leadership within the Office of the Chief Information Officer currently has David Hong as acting deputy CIO and Arman Sharma as acting deputy chief AI officer. Meanwhile, Kevin Duvall, who was previously deputy CIO and acting deputy CAIO, is no longer on the page. The apparent change-up comes amid reports of a personnel shake-up at the health agency. On Friday, CNN reported that two top aides to Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were departing and new senior counselors would be installed. Those changes were related to preparations for midterm elections, per CNN. It is not clear if the IT leadership changes were for similar reasons. While there is no public indication of when Hong and Sharma began serving as acting deputies, the changes appear to have been made recently. The Scarlet Knights snapped a seven-game losing streak behind a strong second half performance to beat the Terps on Sunday. Harun Zrno made a trio of shots from behind the arc, Kaden Powers hit some big shots and Tariq Francis was automatic from the foul line. With five winnable games remaining and Keli Zinn promising a competitive NIL budget moving forward, there is some actual hope for this program. Steve Pikeill has a real chance to build much needed momentum if they can string together victories and make the right hard decisions this offseason.#rutgersbasketball

The rest comes at a great time given injuries and illnesses to Frankie Collins, Duke Miles, Jalen Washington and Devin McGlockton--and this one being played in Nashville may have been a blessing. There's praise for the players and Liam Rosenior, whose approach helped Chelsea secure a win that previous versions of this team would likely have thrown away.Special mention goes to Robert Sánchez, who delivered a strong performance after weeks of heavy criticism, stepping up when Chelsea needed him most. Finally, attention turns to Europe as the lads preview the next Champions League fixture against Pafos, asking whether Chelsea can build some momentum and finally string results together.

BT reacts to the news that the Jets have fired defensive coordinator Steve Wilks following a string of "embarrassingly inept" performances, including a 48-20 blowout loss to the Jaguars where the defense looked like they "didn't even want to tackle." While not celebrating the firing, BT calls it the "right move" and criticizes Head Coach Aaron Glenn for his "awful" personnel decisions, specifically highlighting the hiring of Wilks and the catastrophic Justin Fields QB trade—both significant "Xs" on Glenn's resume. Tierney also offers a small dose of optimism, analyzing three distinct, radically different quarterback paths for the Jets next year, and offers some hope that undrafted rookie Brady Cook has shown enough moxie for the team to consider developing him.
