On today's Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett is joined by Jim Moore, the Go-2-Guy. They start off Monday's show debating the best sports columnist in Seattle Sports history and their love affair with John McGrath, a long time columnist for the Tacoma News-Tribune. They also discuss the dominating season for Cal Raleigh. They eat some humble pie on their comments about Donovan Solano from Friday's show. Jim starts his new job as a golf marshal and is struggling with his responsibilities. Sonics fans had their worst nightmare come true on Sunday, but Puck wasn't that upset. Pac-12 has a new media deal, but the particulars are limited. After Jim leaves the show, Puck is joined by Bill Kruger, host of the Old School Baseball podcast. You can follow Bill on twitter @oldschool_MLB for his daily videos on the Mariners. Bill describes what it's like playing at Wrigley Field in those blustery conditions and how it affects the pitchers. Bill wants to see more from George Kirby, especially with his changeup. Cal Raleigh is a machine and Puck and Bill marvel at what he's doing at the plate and behind it. The Mariners offense continues to be one of the best offenses on the road, why is it so different than at home?Puck gives a quick plug on an upcoming interview with former MLB player Travis Snider before he wraps up the show with, “Hey, What the Puck!” (1:00) Puck and Jim (58:10) Bill Krueger, Old School Baseball (1:26:26) “Hey, What the Puck!?”

Dawgman.com's Kim Grinolds took some time this week to catch up with Joe Knight, Executive Director of Dawgs Unleashed, the internal arm of the Washington Athletic Department that serves as an influencer marketing and NIL agency to increase revenue opportunities and business partnerships within the shifting landscape of collegiate athletics. In short? They act as the matchmaker between Washington's student-athletes and opportunities to help maximize their NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) rights. With the House settlement being signed off and agreed to as of June 6th, it means schools will now be able to pay their student-athletes directly. So now the UW student-athletes have two ways to make money; through the school's revenue sharing (which will be done for players playing football, basketball, softball and volleyball per UW AD Pat Chun) and through their NIL opportunities. And that's where Knight and his staff step in to help navigate the UW student-athletes through this new landscape. To start the podcast, Kim asked Joe to broadly define what Dawgs Unleashed will be doing, how they will work with UW's main donor collective - Montlake Futures - and what UW fans who are currently donating to Montlake Futures should expect moving forward as the collective's role is reduced and the role of creating NIL opportunities moves in-house. Joe also talks about what fans and donors can do if they want to get UW student-athletes involved with personal or corporate NIL opportunities. And how is UW uniquely positioned to take advantage of their potential NIL marketplace within Seattle? Joe talks about that, as well as how important the new media marketing right deal struck with Learfield will help UW student-athletes in terms of generating additional NIL opportunities, and also clears up any confusion about what UW can do for true freshmen enrolling now and how the revenue sharing will look going forward. Is it true that a quarterback could make more than a kicker? It's clear that Jedd Fisch's 'Be A Pro' mantra extends into the realm of revenue share, but what will that mean in terms of dollars and cents for the players involved? There is a lot to chew on here and Kim offers up some real-world examples that Joe expands on and offers clarity on. There's still so much that is brand-new in this post-House world regarding revenue sharing, NIL opportunities, and what will be kosher in terms of contracts that have to now go through the NIL Go clearinghouse. Are there multi-year NIL deals that have already been signed? For example, if they signed a two-year deal last year, does the second year of the deal now have to go through the NIL Go clearinghouse? As we're already seeing and as should have been expected, legal challenges are already taking place. This week we dig into the federal and state budget battles, and the question of a 3rd term for Governor Tony Evers, with special guests Dan Shafer of the Recombobulation Area and Civic Media, and Steven Webb from Planned Parenthood. We open with a discussion of the critical importance of Juneteenth this year, as DEI is under attack by the Trump Administration, and some cities and businesses pull back from supporting local celebrations. Robert provides a simple explanation of how the new U.S. Senate budget bill is even worse on Medicaid than the House budget bill, and it particularly damages rural hospitals. We update listeners on the latest State Budget news, including Speaker Vos' continuing crusade to force Governor Evers' hand with slashing cuts to UW System funding. The plot thickens because Senate Republicans can't pass a budget without UW cuts or they will lose the most right-wing members of their caucus, Senators Kapanga & Nass. In addition, to serious tactical disagreements with the governor on how to win his state budget priorities the public supports by huge margins, like properly funding public schools, expanding BadgerCare, funding child care and closing Green Bay, their is now a serious discussion about whether it is time for Governor Evers to lead by a timely passing of the torch to the next generation of Democratic leaders and not running for Governor in 2026. We welcome award winning Milwaukee area journalist, Dan Shafer, founder of The Recombobulation Area and now part of the Civic Media network, who makes the case that it's time to pass the Torch and Tony Evers should not run for a third term as governor. He argues Wisconsin's governor needs to do what so many other Democrats have failed to do and step aside when the time is right. We close the show with Citizen Action board member, Steven Webb, who is the executive director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin, to discuss the devastating cuts to healthcare in the federal Budget bills that will damage Planned Parenthood's ability to provide vital frontline healthcare to Wisconsinites. Steve tells us how you can also get involved in organizing with PPAWI to fight back.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund - were back on the mic this morning to preview this weekend's last big set of official visits for June, as well as talk about Washington's newest commitment - cornerback Jeron Jones - and also talk a little bit about a couple of top UW recruiting targets that are expected to make their college decisions very soon - O'Dea DL David Schwerzel and EDGE Tristian Givens. After a quick break, Scott talks about the 7-on and 5-on camps he attended Wednesday at Husky Stadium, tournaments that allowed him to see a couple of 2026 UW commits up close and personal; Puyallup OL Ah Deong Yang and Kennedy Catholic DL Derek Colman-Brusa. He also talked about a number of the 2027, 2028, and 2029 players that were also participating, including some that already have offers from the Huskies. Chris and Scott then talk about the early standout performance of 2026 QB commit Derek Zammit at the prestigious Elite 11 competition in Los Angeles, one that saw Zammit fifth overall after day one. Puck and Jim open the show up with the Go-2-Guy once again doing the show from his brand new He-Shed. They run into some technical issues, but Jim quickly pivots and they chat about the carnage taking place at the U.S. Open and they briefly touch in on the M's and why his mom, who's in town, still likes Dylan Moore. Chris Egan, KING 5, joins Puck and Jim and they joke about Billy Joe Hobert playing at Puyallup, when he actually lived in Orting. They discuss what took place and the current state of high school sports and the desire for parents and school administrators to win at all costs. Puck then welcomes The Scout to the show for his weekly visit. The Scout currently works for a major league baseball team and has been covering the sport for the past 30 years. They chat about the college baseball world series, the sustained success of Oregon State and The Scout recently got down scouting the Everrett Aquasox. The guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund - are back to talk about the second half of June and how the Washington Huskies are poised to attack the rest of the planned official visits. To start, Scott opines on whether or not the Huskies can actually put together their best recruiting class ever. Currently UW stands at 15th overall in the 247Sports' team recruiting rankings. What will it take for them to finish in record-setting fashion? Then the guys talk about the three recent verbal commitments - TE Sam Vyhlidal, RB/WR Dre Pollard, and WR Mason James. The first two are great examples of how recruiting can come together very quickly, and James is the archetype example of how a typical recruitment goes for a top prospect from start to finish. After a quick break the guys move on to the Huskies' next recruiting weekend, which will be next weekend. Because of commencement happening this weekend and a dead period starting on Monday the 23rd, the weekend of the 20th is the last time in June the Huskies will have a chance to bring prospects in on official visits. Right now, eight players are listed. As Scott details, that number should change before the weekend starts as some currently listed may not come to Montlake and UW could definitely add others to try and finish things off on the right foot. To finish out the podcast, Scott talks about the currently uncommitted players, as well as players committed to other schools that have visited Washington, that could end up Huskies and deliver on his plan to have UW's best recruiting class ever.

When the University of Washington began searching for a new president back in 2015, they did what you might expect: They started a nationwide hunt, looking for the best fit to lead an institution known at the time, more for its research than for its classes. It turns out the answer was right at home. Ana Mari Cauce had been at the University of Washington since 1986, in various teaching and leadership roles, starting as an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology. Cauce entered the office as the first openly gay, first Latina, and first woman to lead the largest University in the state. And during her time in the office, the UW has changed a lot. There was a global pandemic and move to online learning. Campus-wide Pro-Palestine protests brought national attention to the school as students clashed with university administrators. Key for sports fans, The Huskies left the PAC-12 conference, joining the Big 10. Add to that – in the last few months, defunding moves, international student visa cancellations and further threats from the federal government. Now, Cauce’s ten years at the helm of the University of Washington is coming to the end. What has she learned from her tenure? And what advice does she have for her successor as he prepares to take over? Guest: Ana Mari Cauce, President of the University of Washington Related Stories: Trump Has Targeted These Universities.
