(00:00-12:58) On today's best of The Mike Missanelli Show, Mike starts off talking about how bad NBA All-Star weekend it, especially the slam dunk contest. Changes need to be made to make a better product. Connor Thomas is filling in for Tyrone today and he shares the same sentiment. Mike then talks about the incident between Michigan Basketball Head Coach Juwan Howard and Wisconsin's Head Coach Greg Gard. Mike does not condone violence in any way and thinks Howard should have been suspended longer, but there is a limit to what someone can take. Howard was right to be upset at the unnecessary late game time out by Wisconsin but he was not right to get physical. Jen is in complete agreement with Mike. (13:09-16:57) Jen introduces today's Twitter poll. After the Michigan-Wisconsin dust up this weekend, should college basketball do away with the postgame handshake line? Your choices are Yes and No. (17:07-19:49) Jen updates today's Twitter poll. Mike, Connor and Jen also talk some Sixers/Nets. (20:00-30:20) Assistant Basketball Coach from Ryder University, Jeff Arnold calls the show to discuss the Juwan Howard situation and share a story with Mike Miss. (30:30-33:06) Jen gives the final Twitter poll numbers. Mike also asks Connor about taking a girl to the Flyers game tonight. He's going to pass. The NCAA tournament selection committee released their top 16 teams over the weekend. Illinois came in at #12, resulting in a 3-seed if the tournament started today. They guys also react to that. The Michigan-Wisconsin incident was happening AS we were recording so we bring you instant reaction to the fight that included Juwan Howard and Greg Gard. We bring in Robert Rosenthal of IlliniBoard.com to chat all things Illini too. Robert covered both games at Rutgers and at Michigan State. Tune in as we pick all the week 5 games in the big ten, as well as three bonus games that are VERY big in the playoff picture. Also, Ohio State was in the news recently, as one of their senior linebackers was dismissed from the team after he made very public, and embarrassing, choice. How should we, as fans, view him and others who also make very public choices that become problematic? (Note: I do reference Christianity and Jesus in part of my response). --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bigtenfootballtalk/support
It's Week Five of the college football season, and while we spend a good bit of time discussing Notre Dame, we need to begin by acknowledging the newest member of the #CnCShow team: BabyFox -- you can call her Ellie -- has arrived. Carla and David are both doing well, with the exception of the not-much-sleeping thing, and we're hopeful that Ellie will be picking games by the end of the season. The Irish come up a couple times in deference to this week's Jeopardy guest host, newly minted Notre Dame alum Gabby Biltz. She's a big college football fan and an even bigger fan of chili dogs, which means she gets along famously with Crappy, with whom she worked as an intern a couple years ago. An Irish-centric show will obviously begin with a look at last weekend's Notre Dame-Wisconsin game, which Gabby, a resident of Chicago, could have attended BUT DID NOT. We reach some conclusions about ND and the Badgers, and Crappy throws in a bonus prediction about Michigan-Wisconsin on Big Nude this week. AJ not only takes us through his slate G5/P12 football fun but manages to provide the show with its best tagline ever. And then after lamenting Cornell's 0-2 start -- and the Battle of the ‘nells this weekend -- Gabby and Crappy turn to this week's feature games: No. 8 Arkansas at No. 2 Georgia (noon, ESPN): Arkansas is the surprise school of the 2021 season, and Hoo Pig Sooey could add to its already impressive resume by beating the Bulldogs on the road. Will they? Let's just say both Gabby and Crappy wish this game was in Fayetteville. No. 7 Cincinnati at No. 9 Notre Dame (2:30 p.m., NBC) This will be Gabby's first ND football game since she graduated in the spring (and, not unimportantly, her first tailgate party since her junior year -- thanks, COVID). Will she see her beloved Irish win, as they always seem to do when these games are in South Bend? Spoiler alert: The Bearcats are better than Wisconsin. No. 12 Ole Miss at No. 1 Alabama (3:30 p.m., CBS): This is not your father's SEC game. It's going to get, as AJ says, pointsy. And if Alabama's defense is in fact as shaky (by Bama standards) as it appeared in the Swamp two weeks ago, the Fightin' Kiffins could give Nick Saban a massive headache by the end of the afternoon. Huge thanks to Gabby, for joining the #CnCShow guest host program and for making sure she had something other than Bud Light in her beer glass. Enjoy the games this weekend, everyone, and we'll see you back here next week.
