Paul Bartley joins us this week on the show! Paul works with me at Youth Unlimited here in Toronto, specifically serving in the Jane & Finch community. For most of his life, Paul has made it his goal to partner with youth in his neighbourhood and help them reach their full life potential. As a Community Youth Mentor, he runs two programs in the Jane-Finch area, and also focuses on dedicated one-on-one mentoring time. This includes Iron Fruits, which is a fitness mentoring program that teaches character skills through the discipline of fitness. Another significant initiative Paul is involved with is the Hoop 2 Hope basketball program, which has over 60 young men in attendance. Through this program, participants are supported in their journey to manhood, by mentoring, field trips, and sports activities. Paul is also Youth Unlimited's Mentor Specialist for the newly launched BECC internship program, where he walks closely with interns to develop their growth into young community leaders. This is an audio version of a guest chapter from Mike Wilson of the Graphic Word ministry. A print version of this can be found at www.faithandfandom.org this chapter will eventually be featured in book 8.   About the guest writer:  Bio:   When one meets 32 year-old Mike Wilson, they can't help but notice how much of a nerd he is. He is passionate about relating all things nerdy to Biblical principles. “Nerd”, to him, is anyone who's invested deeply in anything.   When he's not nerding out, you can find him spending time with his epic wife of 9 years, and teaching the way of the nerd to his 5 year-old son Mark, and 3 year-old daughter Hannah.    Mike throws himself fully into what he is excited about, which includes his part-time work with Youth Unlimited through Graphic Word. When he's not nerding while working, he hangs out with and invests in youth & young adults, as a part-time pastor at his church.    If you love finding connections between God's story and desire for our lives and pop culture from a Canadian perspective, be sure to connect with him on social media.   Facebook, Instagram, Twitter: @gwnerds Michael Wilson Director/Founder of Graphic Word Quinte YFC/Youth Unlimited 613-827-7391 thegraphicword@gmail.com Engaging young heroes to level up their lives

Today's guest is a very good friend of ours and my coworker at Youth Unlimited here in Toronto: Becky Cripps! Recently a mutual friend put together a word-board for Becky's birthday, and asked people who know her to compile a list of words that define her well. Not surprising for anyone that knows Becky, words like humility, prayer, serving others, hospitality, faith, resiliency, and family were at the forefront. As you'll hear in the show today, Becky is a person of great integrity who loves God and others well, and is committed to the mission and vision of Jesus. She has worked in many capacities serving youth – often the most vulnerable -, has trained for untold hours in BJJ, and has a passion for all things creative. Most notably, Becky has the special gift of forgetting her phone and keys everywhere! Having worked alongside Becky and her husband Rob for over 13 years now, I can say that she is truly a significant person in our family's life, and I am excited that you get to hear her story today! If you are interested in hearing more about the amazing work Becky is doing with Youth Unlimited in South-Central Etobicoke, visit: https://southcentraletobicoke.yugta.ca/

Danny Ferguson - How can we help kids before they fall through the cracks or hurt other people?

The most important thing is for troubled youth to have strong relationships with adults, not just be isolated or rejected if they start being 'weird'. There are a lot of social work and support programs across Canada, but not all families have the means to use them - and of course lots of kids don't 'want' help. Inevitably some will fall through the cracks. Danny sits on a "Violence At Risk Assessment" team in Langley, which brings together school counsellors, police, social workers etc. so they can better spot issues before they happen. This was a tool that became really popular directly after Columbine.  Guest: Danny Ferguson. Youth social worker, manager with Youth Unlimited. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today's episode of One Cross Radio features the one and only Marcel Knot from Waterdown Youth Unlimited. Marcel is someone I've had the pleasure of chatting with several times before moving from Waterdown to Hamilton and is the Campus Life Director at Waterdown's Youth Unlimited site. I've worked for Youth Unlimited in the past, and they are an organization/ministry near and dear to me. Marcel has a wealth of experience working with youth across the world and has been used greatly by the Lord to meet the needs of the youth in Waterdown. Marcel was wonderful enough to take some time out of his schedule to share some wisdom and talk with us today about his life, the process of partnering with local businesses, and reaching youth where they are. If you would like to learn more about Marcel and Waterdown Youth Unlimited or get in contact with them, you can find them at  http://yfcwaterdown.com/ If you would like to financially support Marcel, you can do so at http://yfcwaterdown.com/donations/marcel-knot-2/ I hope and pray that you enjoyed today's episode and that the Lord spoke to you during it. Please share and subscribe if you can.  Hope you have a wonderful day! God bless my friends!
